Australia’s Dark History of Underground Wrestling Has Been Unleashed
If you’re reading this… then maybe it’s not too late.
But then that would be a lie to create hope. The truth is that it has gone far beyond the point of no return. We have missed that point by at least 100 years.
For centuries, there are been whispers spread by the ignorant regarding one of Australia’s longest running and darkest secrets. Previously it was known only to the few; the spoilt, the privileged, the greedy and the exalted.
That is all about to change.
Many believe that professional wrestling in Australia started in the 60s, but as we know, history is often littered with half-truths and damaging fiction. The truth is more repulsive than you can possibly imagine.
Before the dawn of recorded history, warriors of all creeds fought over two sacred and dark prizes. Legend has it, whoever controls both prizes, wields great power.
These prizes are competed for by the desperate souls that reside in the Underworld, in the form of the Underworld Wrestling Championships.
But, times are desperate.
The Underworld is currently in the midst of an invasion from a vile and wretched cult by the name of The Claw. They believe in the legends of old and seek to acquire both championships, throwing open the doors of this once-secret society for all to witness their triumph. To even the Underworld faithful, The Claw's true goals are unknown; all that is known of them is their nihilistic intentions and the broken bodies they leave in their wake.
Worse still, they already have one of the championships….
Join us. Not to help, but to witness. After all, all are equal at the end of the world.
The clock rests at 10 minutes to armageddon itself. Pray to your Gods, to any who may listen, because this is NOT professional wrestling as you know it, this is NOT a night of fun and games…
This is Underworld Wrestling.
The End of All Things.
The Underworld Club is the current home to Underworld Wrestling and resides within one of Australia’s most populated cities, Melbourne.
Underworld Wrestling, in one shape or another, has been Australia’s most regrettable secret or proudest accomplishment depending on who you ask, as it has been Australia’s longest running underground fight club.
Although historical data has been lost (or more likely altered to suit the Underworld’s masters) it is believed that Underworld Wrestling came to Australia from overseas sometime in the early 1800’s where it became known as a place where everyone, regardless of class or background, could come to fight in a place of true equality.
Currently, the Underworld has been overtaken by a sickness which has dire consequences for everyone, regardless of whether you believe the legends or not.
Led by the psychotic Lord Mark Williamson, Underworld Wrestling was conquered and overran by the insidious Claw, for one reason, and one reason only; to create the stage for their uprising and to win the prestigious Underground Wrestling Championships.
The warriors of Underworld Wrestling enter for a number of reasons; to bring an end to all, to defend our very existence, for personal glory.
However regardless of motive, it all leads to one place; the Underground Wrestling Championships, of which there are two; one male and one female.
These championships are two halves of a greater whole. Currently, The Claw is in possession of one Underworld Championship. If they were ever to claim it’s counterpart, the world as we know it is doomed.
However, the Underworld has rules that even the Gods must abide by. And although The Claw have overrun the Underworld Club, they must allow others to enter and compete for the Underworld Championship.
One thing that has been lost over time, is the true origins of wrestling here in Australia. Currently, wrestling shows present a very Americanised style, and although it can be entertaining, it is a slander to the style brought to you by Underworld Wrestling.
Underworld Wrestling is a fast and frantic battle for survival. Courtesy of a strict time limit and severe consequences for failing to meet that time limit, competitors do not start with a “feeling out process” nor do they take their time.
They enter to fight and win quickly, or suffer the consequences.
As a company that prides itself on its inclusivity, Underworld Wrestling’s plan is not merely to put on high concept professional wrestling events, but also to build a relationship with our fans and supply them with a superior service beyond just seeing our shows.
With a donation of $20, a sponsor will receive a 2018 season pass membership to CLUB Underworld (valued at $39.96), with additional bonus memberships and benefits being offered at higher donations.
Features of the Underworld Membership includes:
- Access to exclusive Underworld Wrestling shows & content via Pivotshare
- Invitation to members-only events and access to members only limited edition merchandise
- Be a part of the EXCLUSIVE member’s only mailing list, and gain access to exclusive content, promotions and early access to Underworld Wrestling content
Here at Underworld Wrestling, we want to build for the future, and that future involves YOU, our investors and soon to be fans.
Wrestling should not just be a “one night and done” evening out, but instead a community. And to build a loyal community, we have developed rewards that will help bring you closer to us, and to enjoy the Underworld experience.
IMPORTANT NOTE regarding tickets. LIMITED NUMBERS!!!
As part of our rewards, you can earn a ticket to our debut show on Friday, June 15th, with a pledge of $50 or more. Please note however that due to the venue’s attendance policy, we ONLY have 210 tickets available!
So once those 210 tickets have been allocated to Kickstarter backers, the Underworld doors may be locked to you until our next event.
Ensure you invest EARLY to grab these tickets, as we can only welcome a brave few into the hallowed halls of The Underworld Club.
If we reach our expected goal, great! We’re going to put on an excellent show. But come on, it wouldn’t be a Kickstarter without a little bit of sweetener if you help us reach just that little bit more.
We want to put on the best possible show for you, and you know you want to see it.
$10,000 Stretch Goal
We're going to record the incoming armageddon that Underworld Wrestling will bring to you poor wretches (just in case there are any survivors) because we need to capture every drop of blood, sweat, tears and dark magic.
But let's not do it by halves! Help us hit the $10,000 and we’ll upgrade the Underworld Wrestling equipment to top of the range HD cameras deserving of the greatest of dark lords.
$15,000 Stretch Goal
As you can imagine, an underground fight can be a little dark and dingy, and with the Claw looking to seduce the masses, it needs a little more than just a “lick of paint”.
$15,000 will give us that big boost we need to take the presentation to a new level, including better visual effects, lighting rig and a badass entrance way that not even the devil would dare cross.
$20,000 Stretch Goal
This is the big one. This is the big scary stretch goal. You help us hit this, and man, Underworld Wrestling will blow your brains out, in a good way of course.
We will give you the ULTIMATE SETUP. Seriously… we have something super special planned if you help us reach this.
But more importantly as a thank you for hitting the big $20K, we’ll print a special ring canvas which will include the names of EVERYONE who donates over $100 to our dark cause.
Obviously, we’ve not been sitting here, twiddling our thumbs and waiting for the end of the world to come, we’ve been busy developing and planning.
Already, we’ve been designing and preparing for the launch of Underworld Wrestling, and below is a preview of just some of the merchandise that will be available when we launch.
"Rad" Adam Bruiser
Head Booker & Creative Lead
Adam Bruiser, nicknamed "Rad", is a nearly 20-year veteran of the wrestling business, a thrash metal manic and former frontman of the infamous crossover band Disintegrator.
British born Bruiser started his wrestling career at the age of 17 and flew himself to America to pursue his dream of becoming a wrestler after falling in love with global wrestling. Returning to Australia, he would work for almost every major Australian wrestling company before he was 21.
Sadly in 2009, Bruiser would become sidelined from the ring with an injury but would continue to perform within the music scene, as well as work behind the scenes to bring his vision for Australia’s future to life. Underworld Wrestling being his crowning achievement.
‘Lord’ Mark Williamson
Omega Level Asshole or otherwise known as Producer.
Mark is generally a grumpy git who loves nothing more than being rude to wrestlers. But we like him, sometimes.
Mark began his career in 2001, starting off as a ring announcer. In 2002, he graduated to managing and commentating for various promotions on the east coast of Australia as well as promoting very successful shows from 2003 through till 2006.
From 2007 onwards Williamson focused on managing some of the top talents in Australia. His highlights in managing include Adam Pearce, NWA World Heavyweight Champion, in his various tours of Australia, managing champions in every promotion he worked for and going to war with Australian Wrestling legend Krackerjak at Warzone wrestling.
From 2011 Mark worked backstage in a booking and organizing capacity for Warzone Wrestling in Victoria and International Wrestling Australia in New South Wales.
Creative & Community Manager
Three years ago Justine went from thinking wrestling was silly, to falling head over in heels in love with it. She was amazed at how the wrestlers and their history together could make a match so emotionally satisfying to watch.
Justine has quickly gained status in the wrestling community by creating an exorbitant amount of wrestling based art. Her work has even been picked up by WWE wrestlers, including on a pair of Big E’s boots!
As a marketing professional, Justine brings a lot of experience and community management savvy to the Underworld team. She is also our conscience, challenging preconceptions in wrestling today and helping to make Underworld a progressive place that welcomes everyone, regardless of their background or identity, both in the ring and also in the stands.
Creative & Marketing Consultant
Having entered the business as far back as 1999, Andrew is a near double decade veteran in professional wrestling whose career has seen him work within both the UK and Australia scenes as an on-screen talent and a pro wrestling television producer.
Andrew enjoyed a brief in-ring stint, but his career really grew outside the ring. Considered to be one of the leading ring announcers and commentators in the global independent scene today, Andrew’s resume includes working for such companies as Melbourne City Wrestling, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Currently, Andrew lends his voice to the Australian wrestling scene and hosts a weekly YouTube series with One Fall Entertainment.
As part of the development of Underworld Wrestling, our management team has developed a code of conduct that has been established for ourselves, the talent and those who work within Underworld Wrestling.
This code of conduct includes not only how to behave in our rings, but also how to treat and respect our fans. We take behavior that goes against this code of conduct very seriously.
We take great pride in the idea that everyone has the right to become a fan of the Australian wrestling scene and/or to enjoy a night out without worrying about being made to feel unwelcome or discriminated against.
For more information on our inclusion policy please download from our press kit.
Kick and scream as much as you want, but the ‘End of All Things’ is coming to Australian wrestling! Underworld Wrestling will launch and will have a debut show.
Thanks to you and Kickstarter, it can truly be so much more! For starters, we are a MASSIVE believer in the importance of community.
We want Underworld Wrestling to be a promotion where fans of all backgrounds and walks of life can come together so that we can enjoy something special.
Kickstarter will not only help fund Underworld Wrestling but also help us to build our following before we even start. In return for the incredible support from wrestling fans, we hope to give supporters something to invest in emotionally and spiritually.
By investing in Underworld Wrestling you will be joining the Underworld family from day one, and that includes membership to ‘CLUB Underworld’ which will become the very backbone of our company.
The financial support will also help us support the incredible people of the wrestling scene.
Obviously, the financial injection from this Kickstarter will help take Underworld to the next level. We have big plans for our little (and somewhat terrifying) baby and it all starts here.
Venue hire, equipment hire, camera hire, setup costs, special effects, music etc… it all adds up and is the day to day cost of running a show. However, a few more dollars really does make the difference between another run of the mill show and the incredible things we have in mind for Underworld Wrestling.
But perhaps, more importantly, we want to setup Underworld Wrestling to be a promotion that pays the people who work for us a fair price.
Regardless of whether you’re the champion of the Underworld, someone who films the show or even packs the ring away after the final bell, many young companies are in a position where people work for them for cheap or even for free because they love the business.
Kickstarter will help ensure that Underworld Wrestling kicks off with a god almighty bang but also ensures everyone involved gets a well-deserved payday.
Please Support Underworld Wrestling
(It’s not like any of us are surviving the Apocalypse anyway!)
A big thank you from everyone at Underworld Wrestling for taking the time to take a quick peek behind the curtain and to those who go on to support Underworld Wrestling.
We have some incredibly talented people heading up this promotion with a genuine and real history deep from the core of the wrestling scene. And that’s not even mentioning the dozens of people within the industry who have given us advice and other assistance to bring this passionate project together.
We’re ready. The worldwide wrestling scene is ready. Fans are ready… and we believe that YOU too are ready to venture inside the doors of Underworld Wrestling.
Risks and challenges
One of the advantages of Underworld Wrestling, is that the risk of our debut event not running is incredibly low. The team consists of veterans of the independent wrestling scene and we are therefore experienced enough to get our debut show off the ground. In addition to that we are members of a community of wrestling professionals with which can pull knowledge from.
However saying that the aim of the Underworld Wrestling’s Kickstarter is not to run just ‘another’ show, but to run something that is unique to the world of independant wrestling. This Kickstarter will help fund us to produce a show that not only stands head and shoulders above other shows in its execution, but also to help those who take part in Underworld Wrestling with a fair pay. Ultimately we wish to use this fund to springboard a promotion that gives the incredible talent of the wrestling industry a new and financially reliable place they can call home.
Inherent risks therefore are not so much in whether the event will run or not, but more in whether we will be able to execute our vision of this being a high concept event. Thus, our main risk is underestimating or overlooking a cost to bring in props, a setting, lighting, special effects, production, video effects, costumes and such similar miscellaneous features.
However despite these risks, we have researched into costs and feel confident our goals will meet our needs. In addition, due to our experience in the business, we will be able to make compromises and backup plans in the event that this happens.
Although incredibly slim, there are of course chances the debut event will not run. Normally these will be outside our control including; the venue closing down, key staff being taken ill, and general acts of God such as weather conditions preventing the event to move forward. Even in this highly unlikely event, we will be able to set another date or venue to allow the event to move forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
