Utopia Unlimited Opera Company is a up-and-coming ensemble based in New York City committed to entertaining the masses with fresh and artistically rich operatic productions while providing NYC singers with opportunities to perform roles for the first time and hone their craft in an encouraging and supportive environment. Focusing on (but not limiting ourselves to) French, English, and Italian repertoire of the 19th century, Utopia is committed to preserving the art of opera and introducing the medium to new audiences while still thrilling and entertaining veteran audiences.
The opera The Gondoliers is the opening show for Utopia's '12-'13 season, to be performed at Lang Hall at Hunter College on the 28th and 29th of September. The cast includes such up-and-coming singers as sopranos Alexis Cregger, Kelsey Peters, and Allegra Durante, tenor Victor Ziccardi, counter-tenor Nicholas Tamagna, and baritone Luis González. The production is staged and music-directed by company founder William Remmers, a specialist in Victorian opera. The singers will receive Italian language coaching from Eva Parr and English dialect coaching from Robert BK Dewar in addition to having the opportunity to work with and help foster the talents of up-and-coming pianists such as Peter Fancovic, a recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Music.
What we need: The company wants to provide all of this with little, if any, cost to the singers.. For this production, each member of the cast is donating a small amount of money out of their love for the art and in pursuit of their professional ambitions. Unfortunately, this is not enough, and the company still requires a considerable amount to cover the expenses associated with accompanist fees and the rental of the performance venue. Your donation will help us reach that goal! With your help, we can put the company in such a position financially that future singers with the group will not need to contribute their own money to the cost of the productions, making their participation cost them only their investment of time and effort.
Thank you very much for reading, and we hope to see you in the audience later this month!
Our performances are usually general admission but we will reserve two rows of seats that have the best view of the stage for those who receive "preferred-seating" as a pledge reward. Let us know if you prefer and aisle seat. We will be happy to oblige and reserve that seat for you.
