A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

US AERO was born of a passion to introduce unmanned aircraft technology to public service heroes like firefighters, police officers, peace-keepers, and humanitarian workers who are entrusted with preserving life.
We believe that unmanned aircraft play a critical role in saving lives. Every year thousands of people across the world are injured or killed because First Responders, like Firefighters and Red Cross workers, are unable to assess and respond to situations in a timely manner.
The American Red Cross, leading private sector companies, and federal agencies came together in 2015 to generate a study on the use of unmanned aircraft systems; particularly in emergency response situations. The study Drones for Disaster Response and Relief Operations, 2015 highlighted the importance of unmanned aircraft systems in emergency response and detailed the following benefits for Unmanned Aircraft (UA) use:

• UA enhance the effectiveness of responders
• UA provide unique viewing angles at low altitudes...

At US AERO, we have worked with experts in emergency response to develop a system that is user-friendly, robust, quickly deployable, offers advanced imaging capabilities, and is safe to operate.
The US AERO Responder 4 unmanned aircraft system was developed as a cost-effective tool that provides timely and effective aerial imaging and sensing capabilities in a field deployable system. The drone was designed using advanced engineering principles that takes advantage of 3D printing technology and aerospace composite materials. We are finalizing the selection of our imaging and sensor systems but have identified three primary solutions that provide High Definition images to include thermal imaging and zoom capabilities.

We are close to project completion but need your help! We have several goals that still need to be met to get the Responder 4 into the hands of those who make a difference every day! The US AERO team has established an aggressive timeline and is dedicated to this effort.
Risks and challenges
Developing an unmanned aircraft for use in the public sector was not easy! We knew there would be challenges but also understood that the journey we started would make a positive difference in the lives of people from around the world.
Safety is our number one goal and should be a primary goal for our end-users. We have started to design a training package that will transfer operational best practices and assist our users in developing an aviation program that will support their use of this technology in the field.
We have and continue to identify areas that pose some risk either within the design/development stage or the user implementation stage. We are finalizing the testing of our Ground Control Station (GCS) software after reviewing the best options in the industry. We have developed OEM relationships with software providers to ensure a custom solution of our product.
When you are in the manufacturing business cost of production is a major consideration - one of our goals is to reduce the cost of our product so that it can be adopted for use in small organizations. We are utilizing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques with advanced materials; this ensures we reduce costs while providing an industrial use system. Our goal is to have 100% of the main system manufactured in the United States. The motors and some of the electronics are currently sourced internationally but we hope to find solutions domestically.
The funds collected from our campaign will be used to refine design changes, finalize our camera integration, secure our software licensing, complete our field kits (to include custom cases), and conduct the appropriate safety and flight tests. We anticipate final product completion by May 2017 and are well on our way of achieving this goal. We thank you for your support and hope to see a US AERO system in your community.
