About

We are the editors of Urbana-Urban Affairs & Public Policy. It is a scholarly journal being published for several years now; it distinguishes itself for its attempts to promote diversity and inclusion in the academia.   Urbana is a peer-reviewed, open access and interdisciplinary academic  journal focusing on the urban realm. It is an independent, small  publication, published regularly in three languages - English, Spanish and Portuguese -  without any financial support.  Urbana operates without a paid staff and without a commercial sponsor.  Urbana offers the opportunity for scholars worldwide to disseminate  their research on urban issues, city politics, literary views of cities, urban planning and cities and international relations. Our editorial board members are scholars  from different disciplines, working in different countries and with  vast teaching and research experience.
The support we are seeking aims to increase the journal reach - that is - to attract more authors and more readers. We want to strengthen the status of Urbana as a scholarly platform that provides scholars with a venue to publish; one that provides readers with more quality content in the field of urban studies. The contributions we hope to receive will allow us, the editors, to improve the current website and cover the costs of such improvements; to pay a text-editor for the sake of accuracy, and pay for some of the latest publishing industry requirements such as issuing the Digital Object Identifier number - or DOI - now required for all published articles.

Urbana is an open access journal, meaning that there are no subscriptions - articles can be accessed free of charge. Urbana does not charge authors - who are free to submit their manuscripts. Those providing services to the journal - the editors, translators, reviewers and authors are not paid. We are committed to the free dissemination of knowledge and to the open access to research. Plus, we strive for a journal that is open to authors engaged in responsible scholarship in the field of urban studies, holding different theoretical and methodological perspectives.

We are grateful for your willingness to support Urbana: www.urbanauapp.org

Risks and challenges

As a scholarly journal, Urbana strives to provide quality content to the readers and to provide authors with a proper space to disseminate their research . We support open access to knowledge. Yet, as it operates without any financial support, Urbana faces some challenges - and the critical one is its quality and compliance with the publishing industry norms. For the sake of accuracy, transparency and timely publication (which authors and readers deserve) we are looking for your support. Thanks!
