We were driven to create the Neo after struggling to find a high performance, waterproof cycling jacket that was both breathable and beautifully designed. Working with some of the world’s top riders has given us valuable insight into what riders need in a jacket. Using this as the foundation for our design, we have created an ultra breathable, lightweight, waterproof cycling jacket that looks great on and off the trail.
We've designed the Neo to be multi purpose making it ideal for lifestyle, commuting and outdoor sports; running, road cycling and hiking. We've included highly considered features: a removable hood, a pack-away rear pocket, a lens cleaner and a special chute to listen to music through your headphones. We've been working with a team of development riders to field test and perfect our design.
We've researched and found the best performing fabric in the world. To properly deal with sweat, we wanted to ensure maximum breathability as the primary function for our fabric whilst still giving the highest level of waterproofing. Made from Polartec® NeoShell® fabric with stretch form-fit and a ripstop face, it gives the jacket increased durability whilst keeping the jacket incredibly light at just 96 grams per square metre.
It has been specifically designed to breathe like no other, transfer body heat, wick away moisture, protect against the elements, and move with you as you ride.
Polartec® NeoShell® is the first fabric to combine the superior breathability, ventilation, and stretch of a soft shell with the waterproof performance of a hard shell, delivering the best of both worlds.
Combining protection from wet weather and unprecedented breathability through dynamic air exchange, Polartec®NeoShell® dramatically improves the environment inside the garment. Athletes will be drier inside in a wider range of weather conditions and exertion levels than ever before. Polartec® NeoShell®, dry inside and out.

Knowing our jacket would be highly technical and involve lots of special processes, we have gone to great lengths to find a technical factory that could carry out laser cutting and specialist seam taping techniques. In the end, we have chosen a factory within the EU in Portugal with a long history of highly skilled workers specialising in technical outerwear.
Utilising highly skilled and ethical factories throughout our entire supply chain is of paramount importance to us. On this basis we only work with companies that operate with sustainable practices, the safest and best possible working conditions, regular working breaks and rates of pay above the market average.
We have spent the last few months wearing the prototype, riding in the jacket, giving it to the development riders to test, scrutinise and feedback any issues and areas of improvement. We’ve ridden it in every type of weather, got it really sweaty, got it really muddy, and have flat out tried to destroy it.
"I got battered by the Welsh weather when on a recent ride to test the Neo jacket. Whilst I got completely soaked and worked up a sweat, I was completely dry inside the jacket." - Harry Molloy - UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill Rider - Solid Reverse Factory Racing

That’s where you come in! We need to raise money to meet the minimum order for our fabric, and factory, to ensure this project can go ahead. We want to remain rider owned and build a great reputation. One built on unique designs, using the very best, highest performing fabrics that enhance the riding experience.
Upper Downs is named after the South Downs National Park and is inspired by the elements.
We were motivated to create our own high-performance cycling apparel after years of riding bikes through the South Downs’ famously unpredictable weather. Our focus is creating apparel that combines clean design with advanced technical materials to offer protection against the elements and superior breathability.
To make sure our designs properly address a rider’s needs, we collaborate with some of the world’s top riders throughout the design, manufacturing and testing process. Our apparel features the most advanced, breathable, technical fabrics to ensure peak performance against against sweat and rain.
We partner with leading apparel manufacturers for precise fabrication. And no matter what we make, we ride it through every type of weather and try to destroy it before we decide to go ahead. We got more than we bargained for during our recent durability testing on the South Downs, with Matt breaking his shoulder in two places requiring surgery for it to be rebuilt. However there wasn't a scratch on the Neo jacket, this is an example of our commitment to product testing!

We’ve put together a series of ways you can pledge to help us to reach our goal of £25,000. Our aim is to pre-sell as many jackets as possible in order to reach the minimum order set by our factory. Please support us in any way you can by choosing one of our rewards below.
The Neo jacket sizing is based on a more relaxed, but tailored cut. It has been designed primarily as a cycling jacket, with longer articulated sleeves and a drop tail for on the bike comfort.
As a guideline a Medium sized jacket may feel more like a Medium/Large, to allow you to layer up and wear the jacket for lifestyle and for other sports, which is a major focus within our design philosophy.
A detailed overview of our size guide is shown in below, however if you have any sizing related questions, send us a message and we'll get back to you right away.
We have set a realistic goal for our project based on our minimum order to produce a single colour of the Neo jacket. It is our aim to smash our goal so we can bring you new features, like a custom UD zip puller and alternative colour ways.
We're looking forward to telling you more about our ideas over the 25 days of our campaign and plan to run meet ups and events on our local trails so you can see the jacket in real life.
By pledging your support and sharing our campaign you will help us to make our dream project and stretch goals a reality.
All of our rewards have shipping costs associated with a price for the UK, Europe and the Rest of the World (ROW) for you to select at the time of making a pledge. Should you have any questions relating to shipment or combining rewards, please contact us and we will help you get your pledge sorted.
Shipping costs are set on the best price that we can find per associated item and including insurance and packaging, in some cases we will be making a loss to keep the price down.
All rewards will be shipped during the month stated, should we face any delays, we will contact you directly and keep you posted of all developments via email and the comments section. Please note Mountain Bike coaching dates will need to be booked at mutually suitable dates in September, after the peak racing calendar.
We are producing garments to order as part of our campaign. Should any issues arise post shipment, please contact us and we will do our very best to help you, however please understand that in all cases we may not be able to issue you with a replacement.
We will be checking items thoroughly prior to sending, however based on the tight margins of our project we are unable to pay for the shipment of items returned to us. In all cases where there are questions or concerns, please contact us and we will do everything we can to help.
Risks and challenges
As a new company, one of the biggest challenges we face is gaining awareness of our project. As much as we can spread the word, we need your help too.
If you are interested in our project or know anyone that might be, please help us to reach our goal by sharing our project and our posts from our social media channels.
In order to produce any garment, both fabric mills and factories place a Minimum Order Quantity to allow manufacturing to go ahead. We have based our goal on meeting our MOQ and have every intention of exceeding this number to allow us to produce additional features and colour ways.
We are committed to producing a final product of the absolute highest standard and we will only go into production on this basis. We are currently working with our factory on the final prototypes to finalise the hood, the finishing and the logo colour (to match hand pocket zips). Following our campaign, we will meet our factory with our final design to order the fabric and put the Neo into production for delivery in November.
We are working hard with all of our suppliers on the timeline for the delivery of the Neo jacket and have built contingency into our schedule. We have already booked our manufacturing dates with our factory and expect to take delivery of the Neo jackets during mid/late November prior to us shipping jackets to you.
Should we face any unforeseen delays, please rest assured that we will keep you up to speed with all developments. Summer holidays in Europe do affect production lead times and we have made allowances for this.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
