We've been fully funded: Yay! Of course, our work is just beginning...
3) 3000 dollars would cover travel expenses for our out-of state actors who are working on the second season. Danny Pintauro, Ken Breese, and Amaker Smith will need planes and trains or buses to get them up here! More than once!
Finally, let me just thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support in this.
As many of you know, the impetus behind telling this story is a very personal one.
As we've been developing season two, it's been pleasing to notice that despite the personal nature of Unsure/Positive, its message about de-mystifying and de-stigmatizing HIV can be something universal.
Your support puts us one step closer to that mainstream audience that we know we can entertain: we are so ready to share all the feels!!
Tomorrow is World AIDS Day; we will commemorate the fallen, and celebrate life.
Join me and some other members of the U/P team at the Cyclorama in Boston's South End for a screening of season one (and a teaser about season two) at the Medicine Wheel Peace Vigil at the Boston Center for the Arts, 4pm-5pm.
Thanks all. It's been a month none of us will forget. I'm grateful you all made sure that Unsure/Positive wasn't lost in the noise.
You are all citizens, and friends; my sincerest thanks to each and every one of you. I know you'll be proud of the work me & my team are making!
Unsure/Positive Season Two is happening.
Our first season was originally just the pilot episode. Our characters are itching to develop-- just ask anyone in our writer's room!
Or for that matter, any of the new cast members who are coming onboard for our second season. We've got Second City Alums, Juilliard graduates, and Danny Pintauro! The irony? With all our talent combined, we're still all just a bunch of underpaid artists! In order to get production going again, we need your help.
The Plan is fairly simple:
Step One: We'll be using the funds raised here to shoot a few select scenes from the second season. Our distributor REVRY has agreed to use the promotional "sneak preview" we're currently producing as a way of growing our brand, and in turn, theirs-- like our team, the folks at REVRY are smart, young, and ambitious-- so partnering with them to raise the funds for a full second season is the media-savvy thing to do. And we couldn't be more excited to have their support! We'll deliver them a teaser trailer, and some other goodies, in exchange for their expert help promoting the Unsure/Positive brand. If you take a look at our perks, you'll see that we've already scored the support of some heavy hitters this time around!
Step Two: Leverage our expanded brand recognition to launch a second campaign in 2017, with the goal of raising enough money to shoot 132 minutes of content. That's three times the amount of content currently live at www.unsurepositive.com, and we've got all of the talented cast and crew on the ready! In Massachusetts, there is a 25% tax credit for film productions with budgets over 50K. We are confident that, by the time we launch our next campaign, we'll have generated enough interest to raise much more.
Enough to shoot the show with the same (and better) equipment. Enough to pay our talented, hard-working cast and crew enough so that working on the show isn't a compromise, but a legitimate gig.
Not a commitment to an all-pizza diet. Instead, a commitment to decent food provided by craft services.
Not a sleep-deprived badge of honor (our T-Cells really appreciate when we get 8 consecutive) but instead, a badge of honor for creating something entertaining, realistic, expansive, unified, and unique.
Just like Kieran was by the end of our first episodes, we are definitely learning how to reach out and ask for the help we need. Will you help us blow this thing up? Yeah? Great! Because we can't wait to get started!
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges:
Unsure/Positive faces the challenge of combating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS-- many people might be reluctant to fund a project like ours only because of the negativity associated with these acronyms.
We feel this is an ongoing challenge-- but you can rest assured that we're here to fight the good fight.
While stylistically our project is a "single camera" show, much of Unsure/Positive is shot with two cameras. This means extra crew and personnel to manage the production. Translation: it's not cheap! (But the good stuff rarely is!) With the promotional content we shoot this year, we'll be poised to shoot 132 minutes of content in Spring of 2017 that will improve upon the quality of our work, in all areas-- but we have to start somewhere, so this "Launch Party" is our way of running with the big dogs. We'll still have to put our crowdfunding expertise to the test again next year in order to cover the full cost of production, so this preliminary campaign is a very important step on a larger, more ambitious road. We recognize that there is a great deal of hard work ahead of us, and we've chosen to embrace that!
We are very much a grassroots production and support from you, our community, will help make this project a success. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you for your continued support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
