Two years ago, our proposal to fund a nonprofit that used the power of art and entrepreneurship to break the cycle of domestic abuse was awarded the Projects for Peace grant. And the Uncovered Artistry Project, a nonprofit online boutique that sells the artisan work of domestic and sexual abuse survivors, was born.
To celebrate our two year anniversary and the twelve artisans who have joined us along the way, we decided to host an art show. The show will display artwork by domestic and sexual abuse survivors as well as local students.
The show’s main purpose is to promote the artwork and small artisan businesses of abuse survivors, individuals who, more than most, benefit from the healing effects of art and the empowerment that accompanies entrepreneurship. While promoting the artwork of abuse survivors, we will be educating the public about the challenging situation of many women and men trapped in the cycle of abuse.

Your donation will help cover the costs of the show. In accordance with our nonprofit’s commitment to transparency, we’ve included an itemized list of our expected expenses for the event:

Cutlery, Cups, etc. ($200)

Any money raised beyond our projections will be used to cover travel expenses for Uncovered Artistry artisans not living in the Chicago area as well as other unexpected expenses.
What Do We Mean By “Art?”
Uncovered Artistry has a wide view of what “art” is. Art, to us, includes anything that is typically considered crafts or folk art in addition to traditional fine art. Historically, crafts and folk art have been created by women and, unfortunately, are too often excluded from the more highly respected category of “art.” Our artists create a variety of artistic products, including jewelry, paintings, sculptures, and paper goods, all of which will be presented at our art show.
