About
Bricks Revolution is an original Lego compatible bricks design inspired by the on-going Anti-Extraditional Law Amendment Bill movement in Hong Kong.
Since the movement started in June 2019, many of us rose and stood against the government in pursuit of democracy and protect our freedom, while the Hong Kong government supports unreasonable mass arrests and police brutality. Policemen were not only caught attacking chanting activists but also caught barging into the metro without police warrants, tear gas was fired into the enclosed MTR metro stations, resulted in many activists being arrested when they were in desperate need for medical attention. Besides, they disguised as activists, leading the crowd to destroy properties and lure people to harm each other. Activists who were constrained and under arrest were inhumanely treated, policemen have also stopped them from seeking help from legal authorities and contacting their family members.
As of October 18th 2019, the police force has arrested 2,603 people in over 400 political events. 40% of whom were students, and 467 people were charged with police assault, unlawful assembly, and rioting. These activists and their families are going to deal with some long and difficult legal procedures, and also experience unimaginable mental and economic stress.
My Experience
On June 9th, I was out with 1 million Hongkongers for the first time chanting against the Extradition Law Amendment Bill.
On June 12th, the government ignored our request and proceeded with the second reading of the amendment. We surrounded the LegCo (Legislative Council) to voice out our opinions and requests.
On June 16th, I marched again with 2 millions of us against the bill.
And for the following months, I stood at the frontline, fighting with our fellows.
I was arrested on August 31st. The policemen took my phone away and stopped me from contacting my family. I was left alone in the detention room with no connection to the outside world. I felt extremely helpless and worried about the upcoming legal battle I was going to face in the future. Fortunately, I received help from Spark Alliance. Their voluntary lawyer helped me through my statement and even contacted my family.
I know that was only the beginning. My safety has been threatened, and the tedious legal procedures has already caused me tremendous stress. I feel very fortunate to have Spark Alliance provide their continuous support and professional legal assistance throughout the incident.
Crowdfunding
During this movement, some of my friends created different kinds of promotional materials. I also wanted to record this part of history in my own way. As a Lego lover, I designed and created the first 3 Bricks Revolution figures - The Frontline Protester, Reporter and First Aid. They received some really good responses as soon as I posted some images of them on social media. Some of my friends later encouraged me to take this opportunity to put my figures on crowdfunding to raise funds. Since September, I have dedicated my time in preparing this campaign on Kickstarter. I hope more people can understand and be more aware of the Anti-Extraditional Law Amendment Bill movement, and become a supporter of democracy and freedom in Hong Kong.

Production
Bricks Revolution is inspired by Lego’s Brickheadz series. They are built with Lego compatible bricks. Most of the pieces we used to build our figures require new mould injection to mass produce. We will make sure all individual pieces are highly compatible with Lego.
Since the topic is politically sensitive, the production, packing and shipping will not be taken place in China to avoid the risk of custom holding. All Bricks Revolution figures come in pieces, meaning it needs to be assembled manually. Building instructions and stickers are included in the package.

Risks and challenges
We have found our components manufacturers and fulfillment partners in Tainan City, Taiwan. All we need is your support to help us fund the initial production run to bring our project to life. We'll do our best to ensure a smooth production run, but there is always the risk of unforeseen hiccups. In the unfortunate circumstance of a delay in the production or shipment, we will keep you updated.
There may be numerous potential ramifications of the protests both in Hong Kong and in mainland China. We will take extra precautions to minimize the risk to all our backers. Your personal information will be handled with the utmost care and for all local Hong Kong deliveries, we will ensure the identities of our backers are kept safe. One of the reasons Taiwan was chosen as the place of manufacturing is because it is outside of China and can deliver the rewards freely too all international locations. This is also a good way to minimize outside interference. As a creator, my name is attached to this project and I am willing to take this risk. By pledging and supporting our project, you agree to take these risks and potential ramifications with me.
We appreciate you being a supporter of our vision and dreams, so we will work hard to maintain your trust through communication and transparency.
