Listen guys, we have been creating Death Metal music since 1984 - it's who we are...it's in our blood. If there's one thing that we've learned touring all these years, it's that Obituary fans are among the most loyal and supportive motherf***ers in the world!
We have been trying to find better ways to engage with and give back to our fans. Over the past couple of years we have streamed concerts live from around the globe, given away tons of merchandise packages and dozens of all-access backstage passes to future shows. It's inspiring to see and share in your excitement about Obituary, and the inspiration that provides keeps us going.
The music industry is funny, and it's changed so much throughout our career that it's hard to even believe sometimes. We have made the decision to partner with record labels in the past, and we know that we wouldn't be where we are without their help....but at the end of every single day - the fans are death metal - not some label.
This is about putting our trust, our music, our career, and our new album in your hands!
We don't want to make music for a label, we want to make music for the fans that still come out to shows, that still rock our gear, that still have a Slowly We Rot CD in your car. You...you are the reason that we are doing this. As you're reading these stupid words right now, we are extending our hand, and we are asking for your support...so that we can make another heavy f***ing death metal album for your little angry ears.
Why did we set the funding goal at $10,000?
This is first and foremost about making the new album. It's been 4 years since our last one, and there is still a lot of metal in our veins. We have already built a full studio with all of the necessary equipment to record ...and it was the support of our fans at shows, merch booths and PPV events that made the studio possible.
$10,000 is the absolute minimum that we need to pay our production team. These guys are Incredibly talented, and they are ready to record, mix, master and produce the new Obituary album.
FOR ONLY $10,000: We can deliver the brand new, studio quality, digital Obituary album.
What can you expect from the new album?
Honestly, we can't say enough about how great this album is shaping up to be. It's true to the Obituary you've known for 2+ decades, and you can certainly count on a true death metal experience.
The thing that makes this so different for us is that we're doing it our way, in our hometown and from our own studio. It's hard to explain how that comes out...it's just real, raw and honest Obituary music. It is going to be some of the best stuff we've ever done - it's truly us, and we want to share that with you!
Wait...what happens if we raise more than $10,000?
Again, $10,000 is the absolute minimum that we need to make the new album possible. The truth is, it costs a lot more than that to do all of the traditional marketing and distribution that it takes to get an album on the shelves...and it costs even more to pack up and tour.
Those expenses are why artists rely on support from a label, simply put, the more money we raise the more of that stuff we can do ourselves. Which gives us control, and will ultimately allow us to give more back to you.
Instead of asking for a large amount of money, we decided to ask for exactly what we need....as we surpass our goal, we will unlock more stretch goals and rewards!
Thank-you so much for checking out our Kickstarter project...please, have some free s#*t
We just got finished putting on a live stream PPV concert from Tampa, Florida. The show was streamed in full HD, and broadcast from multiple camera angles across the globe...many of you saw this live, and you're support was overwhelming; we couldn't think of a better introduction to the band, so if you're new to Obituary check out the clip below.
One of the most important things you can do to help support this project, is to tell your friends...before you go, take this Facebook cover photo (right-click "save as"), and send a tweet to help us out!

Risks and challenges
There is a chance that the recording and production time we’ve estimated for this album will vary from the dates we've set, and merchandise delivery requires the involvement of 3rd party vendors and manufacturers. There is always the potential for delays in fulfillment times from each vendor.
We have carefully and thoroughly vetted out all of the moving pieces and timeframes that come with making this Kickstarter project happen, and we promise to do our absolute best to meet every date and deliverable.
We’ll leave it at this: We are fully committed to this project, and no matter what comes our way (except maybe the end of the world) we won’t stop until we’ve delivered every reward!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We posted an update (Here's the Add-On Menu) that showed a preview of the surveys...and that caused some confusion, so we're clearing the air.
Backer surveys will be delivered about 2 weeks after the project ends.
Kickstarter recommends the waiting period to allow for payment processing, and to handle any issues that come up with regards to that. Once you get your survey - you will be able to:
- Confirm Your Shipping Information
- Manage Your Pledge Level and Rewards
- Choose Sizes
- Select Hat of Shirt
- Add Additional Items to Your Cart
We posted an update (Here's the Add-On Menu) that explained the add-on structure...but there has been some confusion, so we're clearing the air.
You can't actually add items right now like you see in the picture. Right now you can increase the amount of your pledge - based on the items you want to add that are shown in the last update.
Once you receive your backer update email, you'll be able to spend any money you pledged over the amount of your Kickstarter reward....just like we show in the update.
Here's a few examples.
John Doe pledged $30 for the CD / Sticker / Coozie package...but he also wants to add a shirt, and 1 extra coozie. The "Here's the Add-On Menu" update shows all the pricing for add-on items....so John Doe increases his pledge by $22 ($15 for the shirt, and $7 for the coozie).
Jane Doe pledged $1 for the $1 reward...because she loves Obituary, but only really wanted the vinyl album...and she couldn't get it without all the other stuff. She can increase her pledge to $31...and when she gets her survey - Jane can spend the extra $30 she pledged on the Vinyl Album and Shipping.
Why did Jane have to pay shipping? Do I have to pay shipping?
Jane pledged for the $1 reward level, which has only digital rewards. So we didn't build any shipping into Jane's reward package...we didn't include shipping in the $1, $5, $10 or $15 reward levels, because they are all digital.
If you selected a reward $30 or over - No Shipping Costs (It's Included Already)
If you selected a reward $15 or less - Flat Rate Shipping ($5 domestic - $10 International)
Yes. Kickstarter remains open for backers through the end of the project on Monday Sep 16, 9:26am EDT.
Kickstarter uses Amazon Payments to process all pledges, if you already have an Amazon account, simply log-in and select your payment method. If you're new to Amazon, it's painless to set it up.
When you become a backer, you are essentially pledging for a certain amount. You won't be charged anything until the project is finished on Monday Sep 16, 9:26am EDT.
Once the project is done, you will receive an email from Kickstarter announcing the end of the project and reviewing your order.
It's all going to be really f***ing heavy death metal music, but here's how to tell what's in your reward package:
Album / Digital Download -- refers to a digital copy of the album that you will be able to download.
CD / Physical Copy -- refers to a hard-copy CD, like you'd pick up at your local music store.
Vinyl -- refers to...well a vinyl record, full of death metal music.
