Hi, this is Matt Gingerich, creator of the Ultimatum Card Game.
The passion to create Ultimatum began many years ago. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are centered on playing games. I remember for years my Uncle Bob would come visit every Wednesday during the summer to enjoy a meal with my family. Afterwards, we'd spend the rest of the night around the kitchen table playing games. We loved all of the classics: Uno, Skip-Bo, Cribbage, Hearts and Mile Bornes, as well as new and different games like the Dallas card game. Board games like Can't Stop, Scrabble and Touche were some of my favorites. I always looked forward to these nights and will never forget them.
It was this love of games that led me to create the Ultimatum Card Game and it's my hope that Ultimatum will be a part of your family's memories.
Steal, swap, move and negotiate the scoring chips between players to strategically take as many as you can before the round ends. Take them too soon and risk losing them. Wait too long and another player may end the round.
Each player is dealt 10 cards, face down and given 10 scoring chips. Beginning to the left of the dealer, the player must play a card and perform the action. Block or Counter cards played without a preceding challenge card are considered discards and have no action.
Play proceeds to the left until the first player has played all cards in their hand or a Round card has been played.
The round is then scored by counting the scoring chips for each player.
3 Ways to Play:
Quick Play - The game is won by the player with the most scoring chips at the end of one round.
Match Play - The winner is the player with the highest total at the end of a set number of rounds.
Point Play - The winner is the first player to reach a target number of chips.
Want to raise the stakes? Forget about the useless yellow chips! If you're playing with kids, try using candy or in a group of adults trade the chips in for quarters and see how the strategies change.
Ultimatum is for 4-8 players, ages 8+. Each round lasts about 10-15 minutes.
This fast-paced game involves swapping, stealing, moving and negotiating scoring chips between players to strategically take as many as you can before the round ends. Take them too soon and risk losing them. Wait too long and another player might end the round.
You'll need the most chips at the end to win, but to get them you'll need to negotiate with other players. Don't be too greedy...or too generous.
Should you pile all the chips onto one player for a dramatic steal at the end? Maybe a slow accumulation will go unnoticed? Player personalities really come into play - some players can part with their chips in hopes of a final takeover. Others won't let go.
The great thing about Ultimatum is that your strategy will change based on the hand you're dealt and who you're playing with.
Absolutely loved playing this game! After my first time playing with some good friends, I was hooked. It is a game of strategy and constantly changing approaches based on the hand you are dealt and how you plan to interact with fellow players. After playing several games, I found my strategy changed with each game as I attempted to get into the minds of the other players around the table. I went to bed thinking about how I would play the same hand differently if I could do it over again. I look forward to introducing this game to more friends and family. One of the most unique card games I've ever played! - Jason M.
Bring your A game! For someone who prides themselves in being sharp witted and strategic, Ultimatum puts my skills to the test. After one hand I was addicted. I absolutely love seeing people's expressions of the moves that are made, the deals that are struck, and the Ultimatums that were laid down. The first real card game for adults that is not only fun, but challenging and exciting. - Carl I.
Ultimatum is Brilliant! – My strategy changed from hand to hand based on the cards I was dealt. Ready to be challenged? This game will challenge the way you think yourself, and change how you think about your friends as well! Strategy is key! - Troy D.
Ultimatum is a fantastic game to play with friends. No hand is played the same! The strategy of the game changes dependent upon the hand you're dealt as well as the players you're with! This game will keep your friends talking for weeks! Great card game that will keep everyone entertained for hours. - Joe G.
