“Apprehend these traitors!” shouts the Count. “I am surrounded by spies!”
All your protestations of innocence are of no use. A dozen guards grab you, disarm you, take your valuables, and tie you up. After they have left, one of you grabs the knife with tied hands and cuts their neighbor’s bonds. It is pitch dark around you, you are exhausted and only equipped with the scantiest weapons, but the fear of an uncertain fate at dawn drives you forward, into the darkness…
The Aventuria Adventure Card Game is based in the world of The Dark Eye™, the world’s longest-running living RPG setting. Designed with easy-to-learn rules for solo, cooperative, and competitive play, the English edition of Aventuria has been winning over fans and selling out at conventions for over two years now. The new Second Edition lets us bring the game to an even wider audience, and the full-sized expansion Inn of the Black Boar brings a whole new level of adventuring to old and new fans alike!
Expanding the community of Aventuria players is our main goal with this Kickstarter. These two main products are already translated, edited, and ready to go, so we can get them into your hands very quickly. We have reward levels, add-ons, and stretch goals designed with everyone in mind – if you’re new, you’ll get everything you need to jump right in and play, and if you’re already a fan of Aventuria, we have plenty of exciting new content and accessories!
The Aventuria Adventure Card Game is a fast-paced card game for 1-4 players, ages 14+, where each player takes the role of a hero from Aventuria. Choose from Arbosh the fierce dwarven smith, Layariel the fleet-footed elven scout, Carolan the cunning half-elven rogue, or Mirhiban the mysterious Tulamydian mage.
In Duel Mode, heroes fight against each other, while in the cooperative Adventure Mode, heroes join together as a party and go on exciting adventures. Whether battling against each other or standing united against a terrifying foe, players draw action cards every round which constantly improve their abilities. But beware, for each round brings new challenges, and you must always watch for surprise attacks from your enemies!
The Second Edition incorporates many rules clarifications and errata that have arisen over our years of playing both the German and English editions. It also includes the new Life Point Cards, which make it easier to see your opponent’s (or companion’s) health across the table, the adventure “The Non-Gambling Kind,” which was previously only available as a promo, and numerous other new cards and features.
The Inn of the Black Boar includes four new heroes: the honorable Amazon Warrior, Palinai Erlendur of Kurkum, the streetwise Grolm Merchant, Neerax Dal, the mysterious Maraskan Buskur, Nicole Sororis, and the battle-hardened Tobrian Mercenary, Heigan Malleaux.
Although all four of these new heroes are ready to drop into Duel Mode, the heart of this expansion is its amazing new exploratory dungeon crawl. Based on the very first adventure for The Dark Eye™ of the same name, the Inn of the Black Boar uses random Dungeon Cards and 20 different random combat encounters so that the adventure is completely different every time you play, making it the most replayable Aventuria expansion yet!
Do you want to explore with even more people? The Return to the Inn of the Black Boar mini-expansion adds enough specialty cards to allow up to 6 players to head into the Black Boar together. But you’ll want to pick this up even if you play solo or with a smaller group, because it also includes cards and combat scenarios for two new factions you can encounter in the dungeon under the Black Boar: the Black Mages and the Undead Circus!
All previous expansions for Aventuria are available as Add-Ons. Check out the following image for more info:

The Adventure Mode
The Duell Mode
The Dungeon mode from Inn of the Black Boar
Regardless of the mode you are playing, you will power up your hero with equipment, skills, and spells, and then use your abilities to attack your foes. On your turn, you may play up to two cards as endurance cards, which are then used to pay for the tools you will need for your adventure. Since you can (almost) never get any cards back into your hand, much of the strategy involves selecting the right cards to keep and the right cards to add to your endurance pool.
In Aventuria, nothing is ever certain. Many of your attacks and spells require skill rolls, and your foe may still have the chance to dodge or use armor to reduce the damage you do. But Phex, god of luck, is always watching. When fortune is against you, Fate Points can help turn the tide.
If you want to know learn more here are two Let's Plays of Aventuria with designer Markus Plötz.
The fees for shipping will be added in the pledge manager after the campaign is finished. We have four destribution centers, shipping from the US, Germany, China and Australia. The cost of shipping will be determined at the moment of destribution not purchase, should rates change in the meantime.
We are located in Germany, which means we have to enter our prices in Euro. Because of this the dollar values of our tables might be off by a few cents. We always adjusted the prices to your advantage.
Michael Palm was born in 1971 and discovered his passion for board and card games early on. Puurchasing the first The Dark Eye box in 1984 changed his life. With his brother and friends he emerged himself in the world of roleplaying games as much as he possibly could. After he met a circle of likeminded roleplayers in university, he opened the game and boardgame store "Seetroll" with three of these colleagues in 1991. The store grew and university deminished. Since 1996 Michael was able to publish games. He worked on the german Simpsons Trading Card Gane, the board game "The Dwarfs" and the dice game "Bang! Dice Game".
Lukas Zach, born 1977, traded two toy cars for a core box of The Dark Eye in a school yard deal when he was 11 years old. He surely made the better deal. He ran his first game for his parents and till university played The Dark Eye passionately, since then he also visited other fantastic worlds. He has been designing games with Michael Plam for 15 years and is senior game designer for KING Art Games.
Christian Lonsing began his career in the previous millennium as translator for Games Workshop, and has been with the industry since. Over the years, he took part in the production and design of a great variety of RPG and tabletop games, most notably the 4th edition of Shadowrun. He has been with Aventuria from the very start and designed most of the adventures, including the Inn of the Black Boar. Other English titles of his are the adventure game Kaphornia and a large assortment of board games.
After 25 years Markus Plötz is a veteran of the hobby gaming industry. Since 2000 he is owner and CEO of Ulisses Spiele and is working to shape his company into the world's biggest fantasy publisher.
Aventuria has always been a passion project for Markus. He initiated the project and after the duell-mode of an expansion is finished, Markus works on the adventure mode. He is involved in each Aventuria design and sacrifices countless hours of his free time to make the game as good as it can be.
Risks and challenges
Board games are very involved in terms of manufacture. We have already released the German version of this game, so we have most of that supply chain already running. There is always the possibility that something may happen in production to delay fulfillment. However, we are building in appropriate leeway to keep any unforeseen delays as minimal as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
