Initiative & Condition Tracking Cards

I know what you're thinking: "I already have..."

Every GM (or aspiring GM) has cobbled together a method for tracking initiative of players and monsters at the table. You have elaborately colored rubber bands to mark conditions. There is a toolbox you take with you everywhere you go, just in case you need to challenge death to an Iron GM tournament so he'll spare your life.

The burden is high, but it doesn't have to be. You already have enough to worry about, so let this compact deck of 36 cards take care of the rest. Most importantly, this one deck will satisfy many of your needs when running different systems, such as 5th Edition (SRD5.1, Wizards of the Coast), Open Legend RPG, and Savage Worlds. So let's breakdown what this deck contains.

Initiative Cards (13)

The Initiative Cards are the life blood of the deck. They are distributed to players and NPCs alike to show who is going first, second, third, etc. Moreover, each card is two-sided: the player side and the NPC side, each with unique features. The initiative can go as deep as 13 total characters/mobs being tracked.

Condition Cards (20+)

First and foremost, Condition Cards are duplicated within the deck; there are at least 4 of each Condition Card within the deck. Thus, at a minimum, there are enough cards for 4 characters to be marked by the same condition card. Also, each condition card is two-sided, however each side represent a different system. For example, on one side there are conditions for 5th Edition, while on the other side of the card are banes for Open Legend. Since it's unlikely you are playing both systems at the same time, it reduces the chance of running out of cards (each card has four conditions on it's face).

Words, Colors, and Deuteranomaly

The cards themselves are designed with consistency and simplicity in mind, including the use of words (e.g. Savage Worlds on the appropriate condition cards) and colors to make it easier to find the cards you need.

However, since 6% of the population is affected by some degree of red-green color blindness (Deuteranomaly), I felt it was important to keep their needs in the forefront of the design. The colors have been specifically chosen with those millions of people in mind. Here is an example of the color guide created just to assist me in selecting and applying the proper colors.

Licensing

  • 5th Edition: Open Gaming License 1.0a
  • Open Legend: Licensed Product, Community License
  • Savage Worlds: Official Licensed Product

Printing Quality

A manufacturer has already been selected and a test run of cards already printed. Each card will be printed on 12 point 305gsm black-core matte card stock and have a UV Coating applied to help protect the cards. A custom 36 card tuck box has also been designed to contain all of the cards and make it easy to transport the cards to wherever you may run it.

If by some miracle this project gets to 1000% funding (1000 backers), the entire deck will have a Linen Texture applied for extra fancy points.

International Shipping

For Australian backers, packages will be shipped directly from the US to Australian backers, with standard customs documents.

For backers in the European Union, I'm working with a friend in the UK to act as a distributor. In short, VAT is included in the shipping fees already and decks will ship to you via Royal Mail, no VAT required.

For Canadian backers, it's still to be determined due to high costs for Canada Post. If it is cheaper to use a friend in Canada to distribute product via Canada Post vs shipping directly from the US, I'll do so, saving you the trouble of dealing with the 5% GST. If that reduces the cost of shipping, I'll make sure there are extra mystery prizes in your packages to make up for it.

Risks and challenges

While the cards have been designed and the manufacturer selected, delays may be incurred based on the manufacturer's production schedule.

Secondarily, there may be delays due to altering wording, such as if Open Legend RPG changes the names of a particular Bane.
