UB4Me Apparel was started two years ago with the idea that fashion can do more that just clothe people. Forced to "diversify" when the recession hit not too long ago, we set out to create something different and "do some good" along the way.
The idea that UB4Me Apparel produces stylish fashions on soft, comfortable garments isn't an original idea. What makes it original is the mission. The mission is to spread kindness and goodwill through the clothes we wear. To use fashion to spread the notion that we all should "Put Others First".
We began pairing our inspiring designs with some fashionable garments. People fell in love with our mission much as they loved the shirts. Our following is continuing to grow and we are so excited. We are so grateful for the impact we have already made with UB4Me Apparel, but are even more excited for what is ahead. We can do so much more! You can never do too much good.
So how do you get involved? Glad you asked! Read on:
We Need Your Help to Open Our First Store
We have been very successful with selling our shirts through our online store (www.ShirtsThatGive.com) and have been growing an awesome online presence. But now we are looking to take UB4Me Apparel to the next level. We hope to have many store locations around the country one day, but we need to start somewhere. We need our FIRST store. So, we have a store location picked out here in our town and need your help to get into the space. It is a small space but it is just the right size for our first location.
We hope to raise at least $3,000 to help us get in. That money will be used to increase our inventory so we can fill the store with an awesome selection. It will also help to buy the materials we need to complete the build out needed to open. We plan to do all the construction ourselves to save money but still need to buy the materials needed to build the shelves and racks for displaying our product.
If we were to raise more than the goal of $3,000 we would be able to some extra things with the store opening. We would be able to buy a much nicer sign for the front of the store. We also would be able to replace the existing lighting in the store with cleaner, brighter lights that are better for merchandising. And we would be able to purchase a fancy inventory program to help us keep track of what we have and what we sell. This would get us out of having to use our spreadsheets that can only do so much. Yikes! And of course we could always launch store #2 when we get the first one opened and settled in. Now I'm really thinking big!

We are Ken & Jennifer Manisco and we started UB4Me Apparel just over two years ago. We love making these shirts and are even more thrilled that people love to wear them. We are so excited for what is to come for UB4Me Apparel and hope that this project will give all the Kickstarter faithful a chance to see what we are all about. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
The greatest risk we face is a delay. With any store opening you are at the mercy of the municipality to clear you to open. But our remodeling will be limited and completed by us so it should not pose a problem.
The size of the store is quite small, but then again the rent is too. We will be working all the store hours ourselves so we won't be hiring anyone for a few months. So we have minimized the risk by keeping our overhead very low. We are committed to working our tails off to get this store opened and profitable before we increase our overhead with employees.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
