Catapult for Hire is an action-adventure RPG where exploration and puzzle solving are done with your skillful and creative use of catapults.

Catapult for Hire is designed in the spirit of big adventure a with a Nintendo 64 era inspired style.

The game features a campaign with an insane amount of variety. Compete in the colosseum to gain renown (like exp). Explore sprawling catacombs, play catapult-golf or go fishing to find rare ingredients for crafting.

No job is too big or too small, in this game you do it all. One moment you will be solving huge Zelda-like temples and in the next you are helping a gigantic lazy ogre complete his chores.

The story is a satirical look at modern issues in a medieval setting. You play an out of work knight during an economic meltdown who turns to freelance catapultry to make ends meet. Even in a whimsical world, life can be harsh. Experience triumphant victories and crushing failures.

Your time is important so there is no throwaway story here. Written with snarky shakespearean prose, every word will be agonized over to keep the story concise, entertaining and utterly pithy.

Like many indies I do freelance work to make ends meet while squeezing in time on the game in-between. A successful Kickstarter campaign would let me focus all of my time and energy on Catapult for Hire and help me finish it in a timely manner. It will also enable me to pay for high-quality audio assets and those beautiful hard-working composers. Without something like Kickstarter I may have to change the game's focus / features in order to complete the game in my current situation.

Most of all, this has been a labor of love up to this point and I would love nothing more than to work with a community of awesome people to bring it to life.

Catapult for Hire features a superstar team of top indie composers to breathe life into the game and your ears and your mind too.

For $79 you can design a custom artifact to be hidden in the game world. These artifacts are used in crafting recipes for higher level catapults and payloads. Have fun with it! Give it a unique name like "Oculus of Crabthulu", "Stick of Penance" or "Rope of Malfeasance". You also get a copy of the finished model in your preferred file format.

For $149 you can design a custom epic-level artifact to be hidden in the game world. These artifacts are harder to find and give bonuses like extra catapult power, faster rotation speed and larger bomb radius. Legendary artifacts can have much more detail than regular artifacts. You also get a copy of the finished model in your preferred file format.

Design a creature to be used in the game! Draw a picture or just describe an idea and I’ll make it a fully animated, interactive, ready-to-hit 3D creature with a belly full of gold in the game! You also get a copy of the finished model in your preferred file format.

Design a client with dialogue to be used in the game! You also get to design (at least) 2 missions based on your client. An example of a client already in the game is "Doc Hahm". Being a one-man studio inherently minimizes risk. The biggest risk I suppose would be if I died but I'm still young, I work from home and I look both ways before crossing the street.

FAQ

  • The game has been in development already for nearly 4 years. I can live pretty cheaply and I'm just looking for the ability to work on it full-time to finish it up and help pay for overhead (software / audio / music / testing).

    I do have some other features that I have cut that I would love to bring back into the game if it looks possible that we could reach a stretch goal. I would then look into paying another developer to help bring back those features.

  • First off you have to account for Kickstarter and Amazon’s cut. Besides any incidental software licenses I may need I also have to pay for sound effects and music done by the composers. There are also testing and possible localization costs.

    $36k is the bare minimum I need to be able to make this happen and even then I anticipate spending more / incurring more debt before this is done.
