Tek Tactical was originally started by me (Eric Posas) in early 2011 and was conceptualized as a standard, side-scrolling shooter. I was inspired by id Software's "Rage," and the characters and gore reflect that fact. It was set to be picked up by a game sponsor, but development hit a few speed bumps and the project was put on the backburner.
A few months ago, I was searching for a programmer to pick up the project and breathe 'new life' into it, so to speak. I bumped into Ted Yan, a programmer with a few games under his belt and an insane talent for putting ideas into execution. It's almost as if he's coercing the computer to do his bidding, haha.
Together, we've founded "TYPE 12," a game development collaborative effort that brings together Ted's "Ted Gaming" site and my "ESP Animation" site. Game programming and artistic talent meeting at the peak. Our goal is to create the very best games that can be produced with the tools and talents that are available to us.
See our current work:
We also enlisted the help of Luis Castanon from Newgrounds to help us with the current backgrounds, and we will very likely collaborate with a few other talented individuals as we go along.

When we set out to make Tek Tactical, we wanted to create a game that would serve to combine the very best elements of what a shooter should be. We have combined my specialty in smooth animation and vector graphics with Ted's amazing game engine that is capable of displaying over 500 characters simultaneously (Not that that's how many enemies you'll actually be blasting away at, but it's good to know that the game can handle it).
Here are a few more snippets of the backgrounds done by the talented Luis of Newgrounds' staff.
One of the game's major components is the fact that you can customize any weapon to your liking, in an almost console-game style. For instance, you can take the carbine (our version of the M4 assault rifle) and outfit it with a Silencer, a Scope, and even an under-the-gun Grenade Launcher! Each attachment boosts the affected weapon's stats. For instance, a Red Dot sight will add more accuracy to the generally unstable firing patterns of the SMG. A Laser Sight will add additional accuracy points to the SMG or weapon of your choosing. What does this mean? It means that you (the player) can add multiple attachments to the same weapon and continue to boost its stats, eventually creating a customized, extremely powerful weapon!
In addition to traditional weapons, you'll also have grenades at your disposal. Currently, there are 3 levels of grenade power that you can upgrade to, which range in explosion size, power of the explosion, and the amount of health points the explosion takes from your enemies.
You can also "cook" grenades by holding down the firing button (left mouse click). Try it out in one of our available demos. Take out a grenade by pressing "Z." Then, press mouse-click to throw or hold the mouse button down to "cook" or "charge up" the grenade. Timing this technique correctly can help with grenade damage accuracy, by having the grenade blow up straight in your enemies' faces!
You can also shoot a thrown grenade! Even while it's airborne! ...which, takes a few accuracy upgrades and some awesome, mouse-maneuvering skill, but it is possible. Shooting grenades while they're around an unfortunate enemy, will make the grenade blow up instantaneously. You can use this technique to your advantage by waiting for multiple enemies to come within blast range, and then, BAM! Blow'em to smithereens!
Knives and hatchets are the other two throw-able weapons in the game. These throw-able weapons have a red bar that recharges over time, meaning, you can never run out! This makes them extremely useful when your ammo starts to run low and you need a quick back-up weapon to keep the baddies offa ya!
Try 'em out! To ready a knife, press "X." Click anywhere to throw the knife in that direction. The knives/hatchets can also be upgraded to throw multiples instead of just one at a time.
There will be no shortage of blood and guts in Tek Tactical; Actually, we plan to take it completely over-the-top with bloody parts and gibs that fly in every direction when explosions go off! Very cool to see this in action... actually, don't take my word for it, play-test this demo (click on the pretty picture):

If you're more on the squeamish side however, there is an option to take off the excessive gore of course. So, no harm done, right?
That's ok! We can actually remove all blood and gore from the game, creating a custom version for your website! Check it out:

Be sure to let us know if you would like a "friendlier" version of our game, and we'd be more than happy to oblige!
My collab partner, Ted, is a huge fan of RPG-type elements such as various stat boosts, critical hit percentages, luck, speed, endurance, you name it and we've most likely already included it in the main character's arsenal of possible upgrades. Not only is Tek Tactical an entertaining shoot-em-up, but there are various strategies and different paths the player can take, encouraging multiple play-throughs to get to the ultimate version of your character.
There are also multiple ways that the player can leverage the money that they collect during gameplay. One unique feature of Tek Tactical is the ability to 'invest' in your digital stock and produce a profit in-game. This can then allow the player to upgrade to the most powerful weapons in the game at a faster rate!
Our main objective is to keep the game 100% Free-To-Play. Not "Pay-To-Play" or "Free-To-Try," none of that. The game is free and there are no in-game micro-transactions, and no pressure to spend money on the next level every 10 minutes.
There will be ads in-game however, but we are offering an exclusive, ad-free version to backers for the measly price of $5!
Each track of the game will be custom-produced by none-other-than-my-brother-from-another-mother (just kidding, he's actually my brother), Eddie of YourWorldIsOurs. He's an up and coming producer and hip hop artist in the Dallas area that will be making our digital beats and tracks for Tek Tactical. His sample is located above this paragraph. We'll also be featuring Hayden Reimer's tracks, a Canadian producer/composer, alongside Eddie's for a full-on soundtrack to accentuate the gameplay. A sample of one of Hayden's tracks can be heard below. This is actually the game's Main Menu loop:
Another feature that we're proud to announce, is the inclusion of various famous replacement Heads for our main character, 'Glitch'. A few of the current special heads are ArachnoMan ("Spiderman" look-alike), DeadPond ("DeadPool" Look-alike), and Respawn ("Spawn" look-alike and word-play off of a game character respawning). These heads are altered in color and style to fit within our game and to keep away from any infringement issues.
We're also offering backers the chance to come up with their own suggestions for heads, draw up their own, or we can even make a cartoon version of their faces if they so choose!
The original game mode will be an unreal number of survival levels, with progressively harder enemies, creating and setting the mood for players to keep upgrading in order to keep up with the pace of the action. Currently, we have about 6 enemy types, ranging from a Special Ops soldier (in a SWAT-Type outfit) to a Cyborg enemy (A robotic-humanoid with a high tolerance for pain). We plan to expand this list and come up with various other enemies and fiendish devils to destroy during your missions.
Tek Tactical will be released no matter what, but your full support will allow us to create an even better and more rewarding experience for our players. There will be different tiers of funding that will unlock various modes of play and new features. Simply put; If we have additional money to continue development, we want to make Tek Tactical the best experience that we possibly can!
- $10,000 - At the 10k mark, Tek Tactical will completed on time, by October or sooner, meaning, everyone will get their rewards and the game itself, even earlier!
