Nothing Better is a web and print comic I've been writing and drawing for about ten years. To date I have published two print collections - No Place Like Home and Into the Wild. (Find it online HERE.)
Nothing Better is about life in college - the best time of your life, right? Odd-couple roommates Katt and Jane are in the middle of their first semester of college. They've made it past the awkward introductions and initial missteps to find themselves in a daunting place - in total control of their lives and their futures for the first time. Fortunately for the girls and their friends, St. Urho College is the perfect place to explore their budding freedom. Parties, tests, crushes, adventure and new experiences are around every corner. As the girls forge deeper into the world around them, their journey within takes them to new and sometimes confusing places. They slowly begin to learn that life isn't always something you can plan moment-by-moment - it's something you just have to let happen.
It's been 7 years since the last collection came out though I've been sitting on this material for almost two years. I've been busy with raising a family, freelance work, and publishing another book. So it's time to give fans what they want in print.
"Nothing Better is good stuff. A compelling read with strong characters. Tyler Page knows what he's doing." -- Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise, Echo, Rachel Rising)
"It's good... really good. I'm particularly impressed by how Page treats the storyline of Jane's new college boyfriend, Ryan, at times both she and he are too quick to jump to jealous conclusions over innocent interactions, which was handled with far more subtlety that one usually finds in fiction. In fact, Page made sure to present the vulnerability one feels in a new relationship as equally likely on the part of both people. As the book wraps up, none of the principal characters are who they were at the beginning, but it never feels contrived or artificial how they've changed. They're growing, more rapidly and awkwardly than they will at any other time in their lives, and we get to watch it happen." --Fleen.com
"The characters... are beautifully nuanced, with [a] blend of insecurity, excitement, conflict, humor, and depth. (There's a little of Craig Thompson's Blankets in there... actually.) In particular, [Page's] insight into the minds of early college students is spot-on; it's hard to decide whether to sympathize with them or slap them as they grapple with the big questions as though no one has ever considered such things before. A-" --The Onion A.V. Club
My goal here is modest - Nothing Better has a small but dedicated group of fans who continue to bug me for more of the comic in print and I'd love to give it to them. So I'm only looking to print 300-400 copies of the book to sell online and at conventions. The book is already done - laid out, designed, and everything. I'll be working with a great local printer here in Minneapolis so the turnaround shouldn't be too long.
The book will be 6x9" and 140 pages, BW interior art with color cover and matte lamination, and perfect bound.
I am only seeking $1,000 to cover the cost of printing, shipping, and Kickstarter fees.
- Printing 300 books - $729
- Shipping minimum quantity of books - $128
- Kickstarter fees - $100
"Tyler Page manages to artfully capture the joys and frustrations of college life. Where were Katt and Jane when I was in school?" --Alex Robinson (Box Office Poison, Tricked, Too Cool to be Forgotten)
"Nothing Better has the authority of reality in it. This book... made me feel like a freshman again." --Carla Speed McNeil (Finder)
"Nothing Better is awesome." --Becky Cloonan (Demo, Gotham Academy)
Any stretch goals? Again, I'm trying to keep this modest - this is just about putting out a printed copy of Nothing Better v3. If the project ends up going way over its goal I could use that money to reprint Volume 2 since I'm starting to get low on those. I'll make an announcement if it seems like things are headed that way.

Risks and challenges
There are virtually no risks here. The book is already done and ready to go to the printer. I just did my first Kickstarter a few months back and felt that went pretty smoothly so I know what I'm getting into with this one.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
