ABOUT THE BOOK
OXYMORON Volume 1 collects ten stories by some of the best up-and-coming writers and artists in comics today. Included in this volume:
Four...yes, four little piggies run the Swanstown criminal underground. That is, until Oxymoron comes to town...
"Passive Aggressive" written by Jason Ciaramella (The Cape, Godzilla), Art by Joe Mulvey (SCAM)
When the media showers praise on a fire-fighter for bravely rescuing a child from a burning building, the Oxymoron sets out to prove there's no such thing as a "selfless man."
"Selfless Man" written by John Lees (The Standard), Art by Tyler James (The Red Ten, Tears of the Dragon, Over)
The Oxymoron goes on a killing spree, targeting those who are infringing on his turf of having it both ways: an actor who's appeared in multiple comic movie universes; a rapper turned Oscar winner, and a hypocritical family values politician. And that's just his opening act...
Story by Steven Forbes (Runners, Bullet Time), Art by Dave Myers (Warriors of Dharuk)
Alone in a Crowd
An Oxymoron-inspired anarchist uprising threatens to bring chaos upon Swanstown. The only person more dedicated to crushing the so-called Oxy-Chaos army than the Chief-of-Police...is the Oxymoron himself!
"Alone in a Crowd" written by Ryan K Lindsay (Ghost Town, Heist), and Daniel J Logan (Back in the Day, Exo-1)
The Oxymoron kidnaps the top finalists of the Miss Swanstown pageant and has his own ideas on how to determine the winner! Who will it be? The stunning surgery addict? The backstabbing best friend? Who knows? It's up to Red and the Crimson Kid to track down the Contradictory Con before the pretty girls turn up... awfully prettier!
"Nearly Perfect" written by Yannick Morin (Points of Impact), Art by Alex Cormack (Chikara)
The Oxy-Grinch aims to ruin the holidays for the children of Swanstown Orphanage. But, Oxy may have met his match in the form an orphan who is a veritable minor disaster.
"Working Holiday" written by Mark Poulton (Savage Hawkman, Avengelyne), Art by Jules Rivera (Valkyrie Squadron, Marsh Rocket)
The Royal Shakespeare Touring Company's debut of Romeo and Juliet at Swanstown's prestigious Woodmire Hall is taken under the Oxymoron's psychotic direction - that is, until Red shows up. But, is she just playing her part in Oxy's latest tragic comedy?
"Act Naturally" written by Rich Douek (Gutter Magic), Art by Rafer Roberts (Plastic Farm)
A horde of the living dead threaten to take overtake the city...but there's only room for one Oxymoron in Swanstown.
"Living Dead" written by Mark Bertolini (Fubar II, Breakneck, Ghostlines), Art by Carl Yonder (Fubar II, Ghostlines)
The Oxymoron holds all of Swanstown hostage in terrifying silence, as one cop struggles to stop the madman before her city burns to the ground.
"Quiet Riot" written by Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Clockwork), Art by Aaron Houston (Clockwork)
WICKED GOOD INCENTIVES!
Oxymoron looks fantastic in terms of art, but I have to ask - to me it just sounds like a whacko guy - basically The Joker on a killing spree. Is there more to this story, because that's all I am seeing?
I'm glad you like the art showcased on the Oxymoron book, and can I understand your concerns. Here's what I can tell you about the writers on the book. We have:
- An Eisner nominee with two well received IDW mini-series under his belt and one on the racks right now.
- A writer of two current series, one by Image Comics and one by DC comics.
- A writer who just landed a gig writing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and has a creator-owned coming soon as well.
- A writer who's contributed to a New York Times best selling graphic novel, with several published books from the top small-press comic companies to his name.
- A writer who just won the 2012 Scottish Independent Comics Award for best writer
- A writer/editor with nearly 20 years experience
- And a number of promising newcomers who I hand selected because I think they have major chops and I want to work with them.
Point being, these guys know how to tell a story and are writing about something more than just gratuitous violence. They wouldn't waste their time on just that.
The Oxymoron character is a psychopath obsessed with contradiction. So it's really a book about contradiction and its many forms.
The stories range from very dark to downright silly...but they all have a point. Yes, there's a lot of violence. It's rated Teen +, or the equivalent of DC Comics darker books.
But yes, there's more to the book than just a killing spree.
Sure, I posted and update with all the details on Oxy-Tees. Read it here:
After the campaign has ended, Kickstarter allows me to send out a SURVEY to all backers. In that survey, one of the questions for those who chose a T-shirt package will be to select your shirt(s) and t-shirt size.
Not a problem. If you see a reward you want, but you're already locked into another reward that you don't want to lose (ex. a commission or script critique), just send me an email and we can probably work something out. I'm happy to create a "personalized reward level" that will let you get all the goodies you're interested in for a fair price.
This is a one-of-a-kind reward that will go to one lucky writer who wants all the support he or she needs to bring their own 22-page comic to life. Editorial support? Check? Artists? Check. Pre-production? Check. It's all here, along with guidance from ComixTribe the entire way.
Choice of Artist
There are 4 OXYMORON contributing artists who are available to for this package to choose from. All of these artists are professionals and have published work to their credit. View more of their work here:
Alex Cormack - http://www.alexcormack.com/Comic_Art_and_Comics.html
Jonathan Rector - http://jonathanrectorart.blogspot.com/
Rafer Roberts - http://plasticfarm.com/
Dave Myers - http://www.davemyersillustration.com/
Artist requests nothing "Hard R" rated, no violence towards children, no sexual stuff, no "furry" stories. Writer has complete ownership of rights.
This package does not constitute a publishing agreement between the writer and ComixTribe. Such an agreement would have to be negotiated separately. However, because of the close involvement of ComixTribe personnel in this project, that option may be on the table. The writer is free to take the completed work to any publisher or self publish.
Because this campaign has exceeded expectations, we'll now be able to produce up to 10 variants. The runs on these variants will be very limited (somewhere between 75-150 copies each.)
Backers who have pledged $40 or more will be able to select the variant of their choice. (Note: The $40 pledge level also gives you the bonus THE RED TEN #1 Kickstarter Exclusive variant.)
Because of the limited number of copies of each variant that will be produced, I realized that there is no way I can guarantee that every single person at the $25 level will be able to get the variant of their choice. There simply won't be enough books for me to make that guarantee.
So, I've had to make the "choose your own variant" associated with a higher pledge level of $40 or more. (Which again, also gets you another bonus...THE RED TEN #1 Kickstarter Exclusive Variant.)
WILL THERE BE A DISCOUNT IF YOU ORDER MULTIPLE VARIANTS?
Yes! Right now there is a DOUBLE PACK (save 4% per book) and a FOUR PACK (save 10% per book) pledge level, which now allows you to select the variants of your choice.
Once all the variants are revealed, I'll be adding a new pledge level featuring ALL variants at a solid discount. So stay tuned!
Again, we're thrilled at the new dimension this has added to the campaign. And we're not done yet...in fact, we're less than $750 away from the BIG $15K unlock!
