Votesy is a social crowdsourcing voting platform and community. Users can create a text, image, or video-based poll and receive votes and comments to see which choice is the crowd favourite. Please watch our explainer video as it demonstrates how the site functions quite well:
The idea behind Votesy was created when I was fed up with constantly having to ask friends and family for their opinion on a new logo, domain name, or slogan. While there were plenty of poll-creation websites out there, none of them allowed you to vote on media such as images and video. In addition, none of them had a community of users that could help answer a person's question en masse. Votesy was created to directly address these issues and become the authority in crowdsourced voting.
Votesy has been in development for 2 months now, but the planning and research stage started another 2-3 months before that. The web version of the site is currently around 75-80% complete in terms of having all of the original features that were originally planned and we are starting to run out of a budget to complete the site as originally intended.
The lead programmer working on Votesy used to work at Facebook, and being a top talent, is not exactly cheap. This Kickstarter campaign is being held to help Votesy see completion on its web-based version, as well as raise money to build out separate iOS and Android apps.
The $68,000 goal is in CAD funds, which works out to $50,000 in USD currency. This would be enough budget to complete both the website as well as the apps, after Kickstarter fees and currency exchange rates.
How is Votesy different from a traditional poll?
Standard polls are very basic and are really just a tallying system, whereas Votesy is a voting community. By requiring users to register to the site before being able to vote, we are authenticating users (no fake votes from bots or other means!) while also allowing for more features such as: providing demographic information (such as gender and age) on vote results, the ability to limit your Question to certain demographics, and commenting to name a few.
In addition, what really sets Votesy apart from poll generators is the ability to create image and video based questions, whereas poll generators simply allow for a text-based poll. We offer text-based Questions too though, if that's what you want!
Also, being a voting community, Votesy allows your Question to be seen and responded to by thousands of other Votesy users instead of limiting it to just a handful of your existing contacts.
Votesy is for Everybody
Votesy is a useful resource for anybody and everybody. Here are just a handful of example questions one might ask:
- "Which dress looks better on me?"
- "Which of these logos should I go with?"
- "Which of these names should I choose for my new puppy?"
- "Here are 4 computer packages for sale; which has the best value?"
- "Will you be voting for Donald Trump?"
- "Which of these obscure 80's music videos is more cringy?"
- "Will you go see the new Star Wars film?
As you can see, Votesy has a wide range of uses and can be used for personal, serious, or business matters.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this Kickstarter campaign!
Risks and challenges
Being purely a web-based technology, we do not have the same hurdles that other startups have, such as manufacturing or shipping issues.
I personally have been working online as an entrepreneur for well over 10 years so I do have a lot of experience in handling these types of projects.
However, developing mobile apps will be a first for me so there may be a bit of a learning curve in that regard. But the mobile development will be handled by reputable developers so I do not expect this to be too much of a speedbump.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
