From the Creator of Beautiful Monsters
After the success of my first Kickstarter, Beautiful Monsters, people began asking about my next project. With such rich stories in the images themselves, I wanted to do something more with the written word this time. I have always had a love for the water, so the idea for Seven Seas began to take shape. It will be a book of one page stories, each accompanied by a "hero" image of the main character.
What is Seven Seas?
Pirates and legends, myths and monsters, these are stories from the Seven Seas and other waterways. There are already 30 committed characters with room for a few more. This will result in a more than 60 page book with color art images and a short story for each of the characters. The size will be 8x10 inches with a soft cover and printed on high quality matte paper.
About Imagination Captured and Brad Barton
Imagination, Captured is the best way I have found to describe my artwork. Everything starts as a photograph and using digital tools and techniques, I transform them into a visual representation of my imagination. For Seven Seas, I start with wardrobe and makeup and our characters are then photographed in the studio. Additional enhancements are added later. You can see more of my artwork at my website, Brad Barton, Artist.
I am a North Texas based artist who tells people’s stories and captures their emotions in sometimes fantastical, sometimes bizarre, sometimes surreal ways. Using my imagination, camera, and digital tools, I have created work for clients big and small. My work has been published in nationally distributed books and magazines, has been featured in feature length motion pictures, and has won numerous awards.
I have published two books, including Beautiful Monsters through Kickstarter.
I hold Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees from Professional Photographers of America and teach and write about art and photography.
Seven Seas Has Set Sail
At the time this Kickstarter goes live, 20 of the characters will already have been photographed, basic artwork completed, and their story outlines written. Preliminary layout for the book has been done and publishers have been chosen. Characters so far range from Beowulf and other Viking myths, a handful of Greek Gods, mermaids, kraken, pirates, and even an appearance by the Victorian hero that inspired Indiana Jones - Allan Quartermain.
Lar Park Lincoln
After having fun with Beautiful Monsters, my friend Lar Park Lincoln (star of Friday the 13th, Part VII and Knot's Landing) is once again going to be included in this book. She will be playing a Mermaid Queen. At the $75 backer level, you can get an exclusive autographed poster of the image we are creating as well other rewards.
Every backer $5 and higher will have their name listed on both the website and in the book as a thank you. Other backer rewards include posters from my existing art shop, this book, my previous book, and even the possibility to be included in Seven Seas yourself.
The book will be published as a full color 60+ page paperback edition on a high quality matte paper. If we reach the stretch goal of $2900, I will upgrade the paper to be full glossy pages. If we push it to $3900, I will upgrade the book to a hardcover edition at no additional cost to the backers.
Shipping and Session Locations
All shipping within the United States is included in the pledge. A $5 surcharge for shipping to Canada and $10 for shipping to the European Union will be added automatically to your pledge. Any sessions done as part of the rewards will be done in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (unless you want to toss in travel expenses - in which case, let's talk).
The timeline on this one is compressed, but I my ultimate goal is to ship all the rewards by December 18 in an attempt to have them before Christmas.
September 2019: Kickstarter completes successfully
October 2019: Photography and artwork complete
October 15, 2019: Stories complete and sent to proofreaders

Risks and challenges
The primary risk is issues with the printing house. I have used both of my printing house choices before and do not anticipate any issues. but I have two backup printing houses selected in case my first choice has issues that prevents them from fulfilling the order.
There are bound to be problems. It's how we deal with them that's important. Before I was an artist, I was a project manager. I understand how timelines are important and communication is essential. I promise to keep everyone updated every step of the way and if you have any questions at all - just message me through Kickstarter or any one of the social channels above and I will get back to you as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
