The Mixology Dice™ campaign is now over, which means Kickstarter has frozen this page and it can never be updated. Everything here is likely to be out of date. Visit us at www.foodiedice.com to order Mixology Dice and Foodie Dice, and also find mixing tips, video demos, recipes & more.
Thank you so very much for a successful campaign!

Anyone can learn to make a kick*ss drink
The key to making a good drink is a balance of flavors achieved by mixing basic elements—spirits, sugar, citrus, bitters, etc.—in the correct amounts. Mixology Dice™ make this easy, showing you exactly which dice to roll to make specific types of traditional drinks, and what ratios of ingredients to use. Once you’ve learned the basics (or if you’re already a pro) the dice keep providing inspiration for creating tasty new drinks. What will you create?
What is Mixology Dice?
- Eight laser engraved birch wood dice (spirit, sugar, liqueur, citrus, fruit, herb, spice, and bitters) that provide inspiration for creating hand-crafted cocktails made with fresh ingredients
- Shows you how to make traditional drinks that have been around for hundreds of years—Cocktail, Sour, Fizz, Smash, Punch, Flip, Swizzle, and Rickey—and then craft your own interpretations. Did you know that a Margarita and a Lemon Drop are Sours and a Mint Julep is a Smash?
- Instruction booklet shows you exactly which dice to roll to make specific types of traditional drinks, what ratios of ingredients to use, and general mixing tips
- Dice are numbered to make following the instructions easy, even if you’re on your third drink
- If you’re already a pro, roll all the dice at once for seemingly endless inspiration. There are over 1.5 million combinations.
- Having too much fun mixing drinks? Substitute sparkling water for alcohol and make it a Mocktail
- Laser engraved wooden dice are made in the USA, and come packaged in a reclaimed wine bottle tumbler or a cotton muslin pouch
How to use Mixology Dice
We'll also be developing a series of how-to videos for each type of drink in the booklet, like this one:
What’s on the dice?
We’ve spent a lot of time finding the best materials and partnerships in order to bring you a quality product that has been ethically made.
DICE // Our dice are made in the USA from American birch wood, and laser engraved in the USA.
GLASS TUMBLERS // Our glass tumblers are reclaimed wine bottles with cork caps. Because they’re made from actual wine bottles, our tumblers may vary slightly in size and color. Each one is unique!
The more sets you pre-order, the bigger the discount off the future retail prices of $24 for Pouch sets and $38 for Tumbler sets. And, you get free US shipping on Kickstarter.
International shipping costs are listed on each reward, and will be automatically added to your pledge. Please note that your country may charge additional taxes or duties which are your responsibility.
Although we intend to start delivery sooner, estimated delivery date for Pouch sets is August, and Tumbler sets is September.
Last year we ran a campaign for our first product, Foodie Dice— inspiration for simple, seasonal dinners. We loved the community participation from our backers, and one of the most popular suggestions for our next product was dice for making cocktails.
So we started researching Mixology, trying to figure out what makes a great drink. We quickly found it doesn’t work well to create a set of dice that you always roll together—you come up with a lot of bad combinations that way! We also discovered that not all mixed drinks are cocktails (a traditional cocktail is actually spirit, sugar, and bitters—who knew?), and that most traditional mixed drinks have a few basic elements in common.
Then we took what we had learned and created a system that’s not only inspirational and fun, but teaches you the principles for making traditional drinks so that you have the knowledge to create anything you want with the ingredients on the dice.
We’ve already learned so much and concocted many tasty drinks we wouldn't have been able to before. We’re really excited to share what we’ve created with everyone.

Our Kickstarter goal of $15,000 will allow us to produce and deliver our first production run of Mixology Dice.
Why Kickstarter? We want to offer Mixology Dice first, and at a discount, to the same amazing community that helped us launch Foodie Dice. And of course, we need money to produce them. It’s still just the two of us, and the money from our first campaign was used to fulfill those rewards.
You may have noticed that our reward pricing for this campaign is higher. We've learned so much since our first campaign. One of the things we found out is that the true engraving cost for a set of dice is much higher than the quotes we got before we launched our first campaign. Since then, we’ve established a retail price for our product that’s based on actual cost, and our pricing for this campaign reflects a discount on that price.
Please help us reach our goal by pre-ordering and sharing our campaign with everyone you know. Anything you can do will help.
A huge thanks goes out to Ryan Burbank, Chris Robb, Avery Hudson, Erika Frey, Steven Grise Maduro, and Tara Heffernon for helping us make our video!

Risks and challenges
With our Foodie Dice campaign, we overcame many challenges. It was one of few grossly overfunded campaigns that delivered on time (we actually delivered many rewards early), and we delivered a product that met or exceeded our backers’ expectations. In the few instances where there were issues, we made it right quickly.
It wasn’t easy, but it was a great opportunity to learn, fix problems, and scale quickly. We found our biggest challenge to be that we work with several different companies to produce our dice. This time around we have a history with our suppliers and partners—we have confidence in them but we also have back-ups. We know how to scale, and we know how to problem-solve. It's possible that we'll run into challenges during the production process, but we believe we can handle them.
Our biggest challenge thus far with Mixology Dice has been not drinking all the fruits of our product research—but, after much market research and product testing we’re still coherent so we think we’ll be ok. Wait, we are coherent right??
As we did with our first campaign, we’ll do everything we can to exceed your expectations. Without our backers, we wouldn’t be where we are today and we truly appreciate every person who helps us turn our ideas into a reality!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
