July Update 2018
Hi and welcome to what is probably the last pre-release update. Thanks for bearing with the project for so long: it's not like you really had a choice since the Kickstarter model kind of locks you in there, but thanks for not making any serious attempts to kill me for being so slow. It's very, very much appreciated.
Onto the update: The writing is (nearly) done! This would seem to be old news, except it isn't: the RPG section was unedited and unchanged since the first release as a demo on the Kickstarter page, and now it's been revamped and finished up, along with an additional 6-page introductory adventure called "Where's the Beef?" for reasons which will quickly become apparent to anyone foolhardy enough to try it out.
Set in Bilgeton, you and your companions must solve the mystery of where the meat supply is vanishing off to, and also why there's all these buskers around all of a sudden. Can you join the dots or will the Dribbling Wand's famous mystery pies come off the menu?
Another thing that's done: the art. Almost all of it. The book now has well over 100 illustrations, including 30 full page drawings, 50+ smaller ones (between 1/4 and 3/4 a page) and 20 little graphics repeated throughout the text to spice things up. It also contains 5 maps, of which 4 are potentially useful to you in some way. The art contains the faces of at least 95 Kickstarter backers or their friends, pets or favourite cartoons by way of saying thanks for backing this project at an unnecessarily high level.
So what remains? Aside from a final editing pass (in progress) and a slight update for the rules about cards, it's mainly the card illustrations. I've done 100 of them so far and there are 70 or 80 to go. These will go straight in the back of the book (and onto the cards, naturally) and after that I'll have a final page count for the book. I'll whip up the back and spine of the covers (there's a different one for the hard cover and soft cover version), then a final test of the game and it's off to DriveThru for a proof. Assuming that comes back ok I'll clear it for release and mail out your PDF and print codes.
I expect the amount of work I have to do to take maybe another two weeks, though I want to get the bulk of it done this week if I can. I'll have a mini update at the end of this weekend to keep you informed of where I am. Once the illustrations are finished (a matter of days) almost all the work is a monotonous slog of swapping colour images for black and white ones for the b&w print version (it uses line art instead of just a grayscale print so unfortunately requires a lot of extra work to change the image files over). The pdf will be in full colour, naturally.
Anyway thanks again for your patience but I'm nearly done working and you're nearly done waiting. The next big update will be the release update, after which I'll probably disintegrate instantly, so see you there!
