We’re a non-profit that has developed a revolutionary new way to enjoy sushi at home. You get the freshest fish direct from the boat. It's sliced and ready to enjoy raw or cooked. Artisanal, family fishermen get the support they need. And our neighbors with little to no access to good food get nutritious, affordable, high quality seafood.
Each package of sashimi contains 6-8 pieces, plenty for one or two people. It lasts for months in the freezer and is perfect for sashimi, rice bowls, crudo, tartare, ceviche, poke, maki rolls, nigiri, lightly seared, or cook the hell out it (but please don't!).
This is the very best fish that you can get without a boat.
Sushi Made Simple
You don't need a restaurant to enjoy good fish - it's easy to enjoy it raw, seared, or cooked at home. We're here to help and it starts with the best fish. We also include info on the boat, your fish, and how to prepare it. Sushi is fun and nutritious and making it yourself is a savvy financial move.
Half the Cost
By buying and shipping direct we save you save tons of money. Each of our sashimi packages has 6 pieces of sashimi, enough to make 2 rolls, that would cost you $20 - $30 at a sushi restaurant. Not into sushi? Quickly sear a few pieces in a hot pan to bring your salad to life. Cut it up to make poke. Mix with mayo for the best tuna sandwich of your life. There's no limit to the ways you can be creative while eating healthy and saving cash.
Sushi Made Smart
Sushi has become wildly popular over the past few decades and the most popular items are also the most destructive. Help us turn the tide by supporting fish that are well-managed and caught in a responsible way. Supporting our Kickstarter to buy a whole catch of tuna directly from the dock does a boatload of good:
- Fishermen that steward our oceans earn more money.
- You enjoy amazing fish (delicious, nutritious, local, direct, convenient) at home.
- By using the whole fish, less need to be caught and more people benefit.
- Buying direct and processing ourselves allows us to save perfectly good meat that is ordinarily discarded. We donate this to non-profits who turn it into delicious meals for our neighbors in need.
The video says Albacore, but this season was a bust! So instead we're upgrading you and sourcing Yellowfin tuna, aka Ahi - caught using hook and line in a manner that protects the quality of the fish and the environment. Seafood Watch lists this item as a best choice for sustainability. Once landed, Sushi Chefs expertly slice it into beautiful sashimi pieces. From there we vacuum seal, blast freeze, and ship it direct to your door. It arrives frozen so you can stock your freezer. Unless you're eating fish on the boat, blast frozen is the best way to keep peak freshness intact. Enjoy it yourself, host a gathering, send as a gift, or split it with your neighbors.
Captain Mike Dvorak fishes tuna on his small boat, the High Seas, in the most sustainable way possible—using hook and line. This ensures no unintended animals, like dolphins and turtles, are killed. Each tuna is carefully handled to ensure the highest quality. “When I’m on the ocean, I see something new everyday,” he says. “This is where I’m supposed to be.” Help us keep Mike and other small boat fishermen out on the High Seas doing the right thing for our ocean.
Traditionally when fish is processed for sushi, 20 - 50% of it is discarded. This is a tremendous waste of some the healthiest parts of the fish, like the belly and collar. Instead, by processing it ourselves and buying direct, we can take the trimmings and bits, and donate those to our nonprofit partner, Project Open Hand - an amazing organization that provides meals with love to seniors and the critically ill. Our hope is that a high-protein and omega 3-filled diet will help boost health and happiness in our communities.
Where will the money go?
The only way to buy at the best price is to purchase an entire boatload. We also have the cost of processing, blast freezing, packaging, and shipping. We've already been testing this for months and we just need your help to scale it up and buy that boatload.
You're a Catch
It's true - you are loved! It's clear that you care about the finer things in life like eating well, preserving our environment, and ensuring others are shown love. Thank you! Please support our Kickstarter to make this a reality. Together we can turn the tide and ensure that there are plenty of fish in the sea for all...for generations to come.
A huge thank you is in order to the organizations that are helping make this non-profit endeavor a reality -- Thrive Networks and the Cisco Foundation. Thank you both!
Risks and challenges
These are wild fish! You've seen Deadliest Catch or The Perfect Storm, right? While these aren't dangerous fisheries and technology has come a long way, sometimes weather and/or the fish don't cooperate. We have over five years of experience sourcing, selling, shipping and serving seafood so we're pretty confident we can deliver. If for some reason anything goes awry, we'll be sure to keep you fully in the loop as to your options. But we don't anticipate this happening. We have access to vacuum sealers, commercial freezers, and packaging materials and are fully licensed to process and sell food at this scale.
We have experience shipping perishables so we believe that we can get all orders delivered in time for the Christmas holidays. However, processing, fulfillment, and packaging can be very complex—especially when shipping frozen. We will keep you notified before and after your package ships.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
