A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The Monocrane Reversible Leather Book Bag is your daily bag that gets better with age.
The Book Bag is 100% designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada.
Made for women and men, the Book Bag is a reversible, drawstring, high-quality leather, and canvas design that’s been silk-screened with photochromic ink, revealing a pattern when exposed to UV light. When designing the bag, we wanted to introduce a technological accent that manifested in the form of a beautiful colour changing print pattern. The crane is the signature twenty2b design mark.
The Monocrane Book Bag does what twenty2b does best - merging art, design and technology. The design is a fashion-forward, truly unique leather bag with colour changing cranes that move with you, into the light, out of the shadows, able to carry your valuable possessions and make sure that you look damn good doing it. Stand out with the Monocrane Book Bag as it transforms its appearance throughout the day.
Our studio is located on Ossington Ave. in Toronto and we wanted to celebrate our new home and release by shooting our neighborhood with local barber/model Madison Skye. All photos (except prototype gallery & where listed) shot by Jayscale.
What is photochromic ink?
Photochromic ink changes colour with the light. When it's bright outside, the ink's design pops off the fabric, creating a deep purple crane pattern charged up from the light source. The light acts like coffee for photochromic ink, waking it up and bringing it to life.
Move back into darkness and the design fades away, ready to emerge at the first sign of brightness. Regardless of which side the bag is on, the strong canvas and leather are tough and naturally resistant to rips and tears. Clippers scratching the bag will only add to its beauty.
Each bag has a single suede lined pocket stitched into the side seam for easy access and secure storage. The side pocket is perfect for your keys, pens, cellphone with London Tribute case etc.
The bag opening is 28 mm (approx. 11") across when flat easily fitting most laptops up to 46 mm (18") diagonal or a 4 pack of Jutsu's.
The straps are designed to be attached to either side. If you want to flip the bag, just unclip each strap, pull the bag inside out and re-clip the straps on.
Closing the Bag
When ready to leave, just pull the straps tightly and draw the bag closed. At first the quality materials are stiff and tight, but ease and build character over time.
"The Caress leather is a sophisticated natural oil pull up leather, rich and infused colours. Caress's unique finishing classifies it as a more natural version of a patent leather. Matte finish with a firm, strong character upon upholstery, Caress can add structure to any look and imparts a tailored appearance in any environment or style, modern or traditional."

Our canvas is a tight, double weave, 10 oz unprimed cotton duck canvas, silkscreened with a Photochromatic Purple Ink. After silkscreening, we treat each canvas with a dust and rain resistant spray.
When the campaign reaches 10k all backers will have the option of selecting White Leather for their Monocrane Book Bag purchase!
Founded in 2014 in Toronto, twenty2b is a creative design firm operating at the intersection of art, design and technology. twenty2b has designed products and concepts for world-class brands and entrepreneurs, merging wearable fashion with the latest technological innovations. Some work we can chat about, like the full line of action cameras for Drift where our Ghost 4K design is currently on the market and our Compass design won a Red Dot Design award for product design (Ghost 4k being submitted for this year ;) ). Some work we can't talk about, like when we made the ******* *****. That was dope. In our hearts we just love to create, whether it's action cameras, wearable tech jewelry, ******* *****, phone cases paying tribute to our favorite places in the world or inventing new systems for personal security wearables. We love the game, and are proud to give back with our latest lifestyle creation, the Monocrane Reversible Leather Book Bags.
If you live in Toronto and want to drop by the studio, say hi, and pick up your bag, we will offer a 100% shipping refund on your order.
Here are some pics of our other products released last year at our pop up xmas store.
Why are we on kickstarter?
Initially we were making the bags in our studio, but we have reached the limit on how many bags we can produce under our roof directly. With our new partnership we will be able to produce consistently high quality units with factory precision through the use of die cutting machines, and a factory line for production including sourcing materials, cutting, silk-screening, sewing/stitching and quality control. Kickstarter allows us to reach this goal by crowdfunding the costs of our tools and initial product runs.

Risks and challenges
There are very few risks and challenges left that would jeopardize our backers receiving their products as we have already produced and sold initial versions of the Monocrane Book Bag.
The Kickstarter campaign is allowing us to automate part of the process, as well as move manufacturing to a larger production house our output and product consistency will increase as a result of the new production line.
We need to create die-cut tools in order to use the automated cutting machines. There is potential for the tools to be manufactured out of design specification tolerance. Should this occur, there could be a 2-week delay as we get new tools made to spec, but this is highly unlikely as our tool maker is very experienced at this exact job. Other potential issues could result from a leather supply shortage of our exact type. This is also unlikely to occur as we specifically selected leather that should be in ample supply for the foreseeable future with our new manufacturing partnership. We are very experienced at delivering products of various types, and we are committed to being honest and communicative of any issues that we might run into as they happen to our backing community.
Lastly, should this campaign exceed our expectations, there is the risk that our delivery times will be pushed out to accommodate. In this case the first that come, will be the first to get their product and we will produce and deliver on an on-going basis versus waiting until we produce everything to deliver to everyone.
