Five years in the making.
The Timbre of Cedar began as a gift of studio time from Sam to Marrissa in the parking lot of Lowe’s in Jackson, Michigan - stemming from a simple belief that God can use music, art, and storytelling to open up the soul and pour hope into it - even in the midst of questions and wrestling.
Five years later we are still crafting music and community that does this and we want to put our best foot forward in the rest of 2019 and 2020.
New music on the way.
It's been two years since the release of our first full-length record, "Restoring the Light." In the process of creating "Restoring the Light" we were learning how to write together - what worked and what didn't, how to communicate, how to be transparent to share what was going on in our lives and to be brave to share new creative ideas. The content itself was also very reflective of what we were processing in our lives at the time.
RTL means so much to us and was hugely developmental - but we believe that what we are making now is our best work yet.
"Let's Go" and "I Wanna Know," released in late summer and early fall of 2018, were a step into growth for us as musicians and experimenting more with our sound.
We have a new sonic palette of colors we are painting from with the same canvas, new songs to sing, new stories to tell, and deeper perspective. The seed planted five years ago is giving way to sweeter fruit, and we can't wait for you to get a taste of it. ;)
Will you help us make these songs come to fruition?
We want to ask that you would consider partnering with us in the next step of this journey.
We are in the process of writing and preparing to record the rest of a 6 song EP we are crafting - recorded by the talented producer and engineer, Jake Rye of Social Recording Company and mastered by the incredible Mike Cervantes of the Foxboro.
We have recorded 3 songs on the EP, but we need help paying for the final three.
We've been working hard on writing these new songs and really believe in them. Some of the best we've ever made rhythmically and melodically - filled with honesty on themes of love, joy and hope - but we need your help to make them a reality.
We're asking for $3500 over the course of 3 weeks.
This will include the cost of recording, mixing, mastering, Kickstarter costs and shipping for rewards.
It's all or nothing, y'all.
This is an ALL or NOTHING campaign - so your support matters. If we don’t get enough funds through this campaign, we won’t have the finances we need to release music in the timeline we believe we need to.
Also - If we don’t reach 3,500, the money isn't withdrawn from your account.
- We are looking to record three songs the first weekend in June.
- Our hope is to have new music and rewards into your hands by September, and you get to hear it before everyone else if you contribute.
Alright. I'm in. Show me the rewards!!!
There are some fun reward options at many different price points for you to give at!
If we get over $3500 we have stretch goals to work towards!
- $4400 - Another single comes out late 2019
- $6000 - The EP becomes an LP OR we release 2 more singles in late 2019/early 2020
Welp. We believe we need to keep creating music and share joy and hope with the world, and in order to do it well we need to release music consistently, not just every couple of years. In a streaming-dominated world the demand for music is higher than ever and people are craving new music on a more consistent basis.
We have worked so hard to pay for all of our recordings ourselves up until this point but we need help this time around in order to release music sooner, build some momentum as a band in the upcoming year, and gain a deeper and wider audience.
We believe in these songs and honestly want them to be heard by as many people as possible. We believe these songs will make people smile, laugh, dance, possibly cry...hopefully in a good way!
If it wasn't for our experiences meeting people that have interacted with our songs and found hope and life in them somehow, there really wouldn't be much of a point to this. We want to continue to feed our audience real, honest, thought provoking, yet hopeful and joy-filled content.
If you’ve bought our music, listened to it, streamed it, been impacted by it, come to a show, bought a shirt, signed up for our email list, prayed for us, gave us a hug...THANK YOU. Thank you so much for being part of this with us. We pray that our art has brought and brings life to you.
Let's do this.
We wouldn't be here without you.
Marrissa, Sam, Alex, Andy and Eric!
1.) If you select a reward with a t-shirt or hoodie (unisex sizing), we will send you a form to fill out about sizing when the campaign is funded in full.
2.) With all the kindness in the world we ask - PLEASE - double check and make sure your address and emails are correct when you check out. If for some reason you move sometime in the summer, please make sure your address gets corrected by August 1, if not sooner. You can also email us at email@example.com. As a small business, we cannot afford to print a lot of extra rewards or re-send packages in the mail if your package was sent to the wrong address. Thank you for your cooperation!
3.) Also - please note that the mockups above are digital renderings of our products and there may be small differences when received in person.
Risks and challenges
As always with Kickstarter, if we don't reach our goal, we don't receive the funds we need and these packages don't get made. If you did support the campaign, your money will be refunded - nothing taken from your account. (Let's hope it all works out though!!)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
