For the past few years, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (successor to ATF in the Treasury Department) has conducted an aggressive investigation of alleged unfair trade practice violations in the sale, distribution, and promotion of alcohol beverages.  Due to some of the investigative techniques and approaches, I am seeking specific records under the Freedom of Information Act on the cash bonuses and awards paid to the investigators, supervisors, and executives for their actions in investigations of specific targets.  Good governance and good transparency of your Federal Government is advanced by the disclosure of this information.  TTB told me this will cost several thousand dollars in fees.  I need your help to cover these fees so I can include this information in a public journalism article.  Thank you.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk is that TTB will decide to withhold the information and force the decision on whether to file litigation to compel disclosure of the requested awards and bonus information on employees. TTB has no financial incentive to avoid litigation because those costs are paid by the U.S. Treasury.
