About this project

MARCH 23 2017 UPDATE: TWO STRETCH GOALS TO GO!
STRETCH GOAL #1 ($4,000):
A Greco-Roman to Egyptian Deity Names Correspondence Index (SEE UPDATE 6)

STRETCH GOAL #2 ($5,000):
An Index of Holidays, Organized by Deity Name (SEE UPDATE 6)

In 2012, I created a Kickstarter for The Ancient Egyptian Daybook, an academic book about ancient Egyptian festival calendars.
Thanks to a little more than 300 backers and $17,144 in campaign funds (571% of goal!), I was able to create that project and get it out to the world.

Now that the Daybook is available, some of my backers and other readers have expressed interest in a blank, planner-style calendar that can be used perpetually, to create your own calendars with ancient Egyptian festival data. I'd like to pursue a Kickstarter for The Ancient Egyptian Daybook Planner, and I need your help.

I'm using Kickstarter again to achieve simple goals. First, I need to pay Megan Zane for additional rights to her gorgeous art from the Daybook. I want to hire professional editors and graphic designers, to make sure that the Daybook Planner is up to the same standards as the original Daybook. The Daybook Planner will be printed in coilbound form, and will look like this (here is a coilbound Daybook):

Inside, the Daybook Planner's pages will be designed like a standard planner calendar, except they'll be set up for Egyptian dates, with a space for you to enter in your own Gregorian data. You will be able to use this planner over and over again, or purchase a new one each year.

Here's an idea of what the inside will look like (though, obviously, this layout comes from a Gregorian calendar, not an Egyptian one! It will be divided in this fashion, however, listing days and festival(s) for those days, with blank space for your use).

Sample of a planner calendar. This is NOT Egyptian dating but Gregorian. The Egyptian Daybook Planner will be organized according to the pharaonic calendars in The Ancient Egyptian Daybook.

The Ancient Egyptian Daybook Planner is already in production - I started it as a side project during Daybook printing, and it's already mostly put together. At this stage, I need to raise funds to pay for the illustrations (there will be more of them than are in the Daybook), editing, and design. I'm also using this Kickstarter as a preorder gauge, to see how many of you would be interested in a copy of the Daybook Planner. As a result, I've set our final goal lower than I did for the Daybook with its multiple formats.

The Daybook Planner will be released as soon as it is completed, and definitely in time for the ancient Egyptian new year or Wep Ronpet festivals that occur around Gregorian August. Since data work is already done, we will not have a delay like we did for the Daybook project, when I added a huge amount of additional material to the project in the midst of production.

This project will also participate in Kicking It Forward, pledging 5% of any profits after it's printed and shipped on other Kickstarters, just as I did with The Ancient Egyptian Daybook (despite it's not having made a profit).

Thank you for reading and thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges

The data for this project already exists in The Ancient Egyptian Daybook, and I've already begun laying it out for the Daybook Planner. Now I just need funds to cover the licensing for the art and professional editing and design help to get the Daybook Planner ready for printing.

Stretch goals have their own challenges and requirements, and I'll update those as they happen in individual updates. At launch time we have only one (big) stretch goal, for creating a mobile calendar app (which I will make happen if we meet a goal of $30,000 on this project).

I pledge to keep regular updates to Kickstarter backers on the progress of the Daybook Planner.
