How many ancient Egyptian deities are there? Multiple volumes have been published about these deities, in multiple languages for centuries. 100 Gods of Egypt represents my latest contribution to the literature on them: 100 essays on 100 deities or clusters of deities and spirits. (See list below.)
My fully-referenced academic essays will be compiled into a book, including photographs from Egyptian sites/antiquities and illustrations. It will be published in eBook, paperback, and hardcover versions (standard and deluxe**) in February 2019 (a year after our Make100 campaign closes), so I have time to create an edited, peer-reviewed quality publication. Because we met Stretch Goal 2, ALL Kickstarter backers who order paperbacks or hardbacks will get full-color versions of these books - after the Kickstarter, those versions will be available only for a higher price.
**The Deluxe Version (see $75 tier!) will be a unique full color hardcover version of this book, limited to 100 copies, signed and numbered. Once it is gone, it's gone!
This is my third Kickstarter. My first two projects related to the ancient Egyptian religious calendar. Those projects (The Ancient Egyptian Daybook and The Ancient Egyptian Daybook Perpetual Planner) include lots of deities, though I wasn't able to write about them there in detail. I am also the author of The Ancient Egyptian Prayerbook, my translation of 100+ ancient Egyptian prayers, again to less deities than 100 Gods of Egypt will include.

Limited Sponsorships & Book Add-ons!
You can sponsor a deity essay - small, medium, or large. If you're not interested in sponsorship, but want to preorder 100 Gods of Egypt, see backer rewards.
If you want to sponsor a deity AND get a publication, you can do that too! Shipping is waived for sponsors. Just add item(s) you'd like to your total pledge, and I'll send eBooks and/or print books when the time comes! Note you must figure in this cost manually at pledge time; otherwise, you'll have to wait until 100 Gods of Egypt is available to secure a copy!
Kickstarter: It's All or Nothing
Kickstarter's model is an all-or-nothing model. If we do not achieve our goal after 30 days, this project will not be funded, and backers will not be charged. There is no risk to you if our campaign doesn't meet its goal. Provided we meet or exceed our goal, you will be charged for all pledges and add-on rewards at the end of our 30-day campaign (on February 8).
BASIC GOAL: Reached in our first 5 hours (well done!)
STRETCH GOAL 1 ($5K for professional artist(s)): reached Jan. 22!
SURPRISE PERK: DELUXE COLOR HARDCOVER (added Feb. 4!)
STRETCH GOAL 2 ($10K for more color printing): reached Feb. 7!
If you'd like to help 100 Gods of Egypt become reality, please join us and spread the word about this project. And thank you for your support! (It's divine.)
Risks and challenges
If we do not get 100 sponsors for the 100 Gods of Egypt essays, it is possible that we will not make goal (goal is calculated on the assumption every essay is sponsored). I intend to work on this book regardless of whether the campaign makes goal, though making goal equals funding to provide work time for the project. If the Kickstarter is unsuccessful, release will likely be delayed.
In past Kickstarter projects I ran into a problem with cost overruns around shipping (common for first-time Kickstarters or those who end with more backers than expected; both were true for me). The Daybook is complete and the Daybook Planner close to print, so neither of those projects will affect completion of this project financially or time-wise. I believe the 100 Gods of Egypt project, with its slightly higher backer and shipping fees, should avoid that issue. Plus, since sponsorship is not necessarily tied to receiving a book, there are not likely to be as many books to ship.
As I've already done two successful Kickstarters, I believe I have sufficient experience and ability to carry this one out. It's smaller and less complicated than either of those projects, due to the special scope required of a Make 100 project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
