Manufacturing in China

Hello Backers,

Last week we tested the T5 parts and had great results. We will post some of these pictures next week. One issue that came up as a surprise was when we were shooting in low light, without the filter, with the flash, and in a white Camera Case - the iPhone flash reflected off the case and yielded unwanted results (some of which reproduced without the Camera Case). We tested several 'fixes', the best of which will be in the final product.

We are on our way to China next week. We plan to inspect final production. Simultaneously T6 parts in black, white, azalea, and pollen are on there way to our engineers in Portland for inspection.

What all this means is we plan to add texture and some tiny cosmetic fixes to the tool and begin production. The hick-up in the plan is the Chinese holiday the first week of October will shut down factories for a week. In any event, the Camera Case is coming very soon to you.

We appreciate your continued support and patience!

Joel and Scott

From "Cover happy" (during concept) to
"Cover desperate" (just prior to the announcement of iPhone 5) to
"Cover disappointed" (when constant delays have made the wait meaningless!) to
"Cover less" (using not-so-good condition case awaiting this Trygger case) to
"Cover up...." (not knowing the status, now that Chinese New Year is gone, Columbus day is gone, first week is gone....)

Any update on when we are receiving this?

      Hi there,
I'm sure many of the backers have switched to the iPhone 5 by now, including myself. I was hoping to use the case this summer during some of my travel but alas. So here's the question, an iPhone 4 case is useless to me, do you guys have any plans of making iPhone 5 cases, and if so will you take a Raincheck until then or refund your backers?

    4. Douglas Hardy on October 10, 2012

Looking forward to this as I decided to keep my 4S instead of upgrading to a 5. Hope to hear more news soon!

First October week is behind. What's up ?

    6. Joe on October 9, 2012

Is the 4s cases almost being shipped anytime soon? Why is it taking so long?

Scott & Joel- How is everything coming along in China?

    9. kimoxxx116 on October 3, 2012

SIMPLE: you backed up a casing for IPHONE4S not IPHONE5. if you have sold your iphone4/4s. that sucks...its your should've known that theres already rumors floating around about the new iphone coming out... i didn't upgrade, so im still stoked about this casing....hurry up bitches!!

    10. Neil Roberts on September 28, 2012

Not wanting to buy all new accessories (I love my universal dock) I did not purchase an iPhone 5. I'm surprised so many people here were forced into purchasing new phones.

Also if i were you, in order to ensure that it is line with "good faith", i would take down the listing of the product at which is ready to take an order with next day shipment option!!

Though i agree with the fact that "investing" is different from "ordering" at a retailer....both come with an absolute sense of TRUST and ASSURANCE.
TRUST - in terms of delivering the said product with the said specifications on said schedule, of course some delays can be expected
ASSURANCE - to get the right quality product and get the right service at the right time!

Now what is very important and those who claim that investing is different from ordering is....that as a backer
      > if we are taking the risks of longer incubation period of an unknown product....we have the obvious right to offer suggestions if the overall baseline assumptions have changed. Though Trygger might have sold us the concept of the 4S, since there have been inordinate delays beyond the control of the investors, we need to get an OPTION to get a 4S or a 5 cover! For many of us 4S covers are as good as useless!
      > the additional money that has been raised over and above the GOAL has to be used to develop iPhone 5 Trygger cases and the backers have to be provided the new option

MOST of the posters here have clearly expressed their frustration, disappointment & the lack of need for a Trygger 4S case, which goes to prove that the backers have an altogether different opinion that needs to be respected. Guys....come on....eventually we all trusted and backed such an idea, so we need to be heard!

    13. Christian Klass on September 27, 2012

Same here, just exchanged my iPhone 4 for an iPhone 5 so I can't use the regular Trygger-case anymore. I'd rather wait for a new case than getting the "old" one - and maybe pay a slight extra.

    14. Rob Kubasko on September 24, 2012

I agree with Reed. I don't whine about Kickstarter projects because I understand that this isn't a store in any traditional sense and any Kickstarter pledge is an investment that has inherent risk like any other investment. But in this case, the product I've supported will be completely useless to me when it arrives so I have no problems with you keeping my investment and NOT sending the product. I'd suggest you guys add that as an option on the survey for shipping when you send it.

@Sky Kelsey : I agree. I would happily contribute an extra $5 to receive an iphone 5 case. I think that would be the most satisfying result from my side. However, I understand the needs of the developers to see this thing through. Hopefully they are able to take off once they're through the murk and mire. Feel free to withhold my iphone 4 case in any extent as I no longer have the 4.
      Thanks guys!

    16. Reed Kennedy on September 24, 2012

@Garett I understand, and this is exactly why I did not ask for my money back. I am only asking that my reward be canceled. It's sad that the Trygger was delayed this long, but I would be even sadder if they spent the time, energy, money, fuel, and plastic to ship me something I cannot use.

If it becomes possible to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5 Trygger somehow, that would be great! If not, I'd rather just have nothing.

Thanks for the update. Amazing to have a window seat on the production process.

    18. DaddyFlo on September 23, 2012

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the delivery of the case for my 4S. I'm sure you've learned much. I know it will translate to a more timely delivery of your iPhone 5 case and subsequent products. Keep up the good work and continue to focus on a quality experience. We knew the risks when we participated in a small way your ad-venture. Still supporting you 100 %.

Love the updates. Completley understand the delays. Don't get discouraged and keep up the good work. Very excited for the product but would rather have it done well than on time!

While I, as a backer of this project, am as frustrated as anyone over the delays, I think that those who are asking to have their "order" cancelled misunderstand what Kickstarter is. It's not a store. It's a venue for developers to raise funds to see an idea to fruition. Sometimes those ideas pan out, sometimes they don't. Whenever you invest in a project (and that's what you're doing--investing), you're taking a risk. The expectations should not be the same as for, say, Amazon, or even eBay. The "reward" you're offered in return for your support is always contingent upon the product actually seeing the light of day, which some may, some may not, and some will, only not exactly in the manner or timeframe originally hoped. The deliverable you may or may not get at the end is (hopefully) not the reason you backed this (or any) Kickstarter project. You backed it because it was a good idea that needed funding to see if it could work. Hopefully it can. But sometimes it can't. And that's the risk you take when you invest.

    21. Bharat on September 22, 2012

Scot and joe I know that you guys have come up with a fantabulous idea but time is most important thing. I feel that by the time your product is in our hands, there will a better product in the open market. Problems are supposed to come in any project but delaying a product delivery is not at all acceptable. How do u expect your backers to back your next project. People back expecting that they can experience the latest technology before the world could experience it. So please take care of the delivery timings and try keeping upto your words.

For those wondering about delays, yes, it's common for projects to experience unexpected delays (take a look at the Slingshot, for example). In fact, to address concerns like yours, KS just posted some new guidelines on their blog: . Some very interesting points are raised in that post, which I believe where sparked by the LIFX project. Must read, IMHO.

      Hi, guys,

At the time you'd asked earlier, I thought I was going to keep my 4S for a while. I've since upgraded to an iPhone 5. How do I change my preference for the case from a 4 to a 5 or am I too late? Thanks! =M=

This is although understandable, but extremely annoying, frustrating and disappointing. I think this is the last time I'll be backing anything. I rather pay and get the finish product right away.

    26. Hai Ho on September 22, 2012

To those that back other projects before, is this delay a norm for kickstarter projects? If it is, I can safely say that this is my first and last time I back a project. I think I can understand if it was another type of product, but seeing how this is an accessory for a mobile phone, a three (probably more) month delay is just unbelievable. An iPhone has a shelf life of 1 year, so delaying it for a quarter of that is just...baffling. The fact that you guys have no concrete plan to deal with all the faithful people who invested in your company earlier on and have moved on to the new iPhone does not make me want to be a repeat customer or advocate. Is there ever going a good news update for this product?

I agree. It seems like ages ago that I backed this project, which was a good idea at the time. It feels like this product is vaporware now and will never see the light of day. All this and I just received my iPhone 5 today, so a case for my old iPhone 4 is useless at this point. I have been unable to find any information on how to cancel an order once a project has been funded already.

    28. Sky Kelsey on September 22, 2012

It would be great if you guys could post an update on whether you would be willing to send iPhone 5 cases out (when and if available) to those that want one. There is really no point in shipping an iPhone 4 case to a lot of the current backers. I personally would not buy an iPhone 5 case at a discount after already spending money on an iPhone 4 case that has been delayed for months. But I would kick in another $5 to get an iPhone 5 case. Anyone else agree?

    29. Reed Kennedy on September 22, 2012

Could you please cancel my order? I've sold my iPhone 4S. Keep the money, or return it, or whatever. An iPhone 4S Trygger case won't be useful to me anymore.

    30. Scott Phillips and Joel Kamerman 2-time creator on September 22, 2012

@Vince and @Teelip, at this moment we are focussing on finishing the iPhone 4 Camera Case. After we ship the Camera Case we will look at special requests.

    31. Teelip on September 22, 2012

YES I agree, can you do it for iPhone5 instead?

    32. Vince on September 22, 2012

Since this project has been delay for couple of months, can this case be available for the IPhone 5 instead of my original IPhone 4?
