True Tail is an indie flash-animated action adventure cartoon series that has been SIX YEARS in the making! It follows the adventures of a young kitten, named Caleb, who learns what it means to be a hero, and that sometimes there are adventures you are not ready for. However, accompanied by a sly thieving fox, a quick-witted kirin, and a song loving bunny, he will learn that with friends even the most impossible tasks can be easily overcome.
True Tail is the creation of Allison Sribnick and Zachary Rich, two Savannah College of Art and Design animation graduates, who dreamed of one day being showrunners of their own show. In 2013 they put their heads together and did just that - by creating Skynamic Studios!
And at long last we are thrilled to finally announce what all of our fans have been waiting for, a KICKSTARTER! We need $25,000 to fund our 3-5 minute pilot episode. That’s correct! We are finally going to let YOU into the world of True Tail. But animation is not cheap, and we are aiming for TV-quality here, so we are doing this Kickstarter to kick off this fantastic adventure!
Our tale begins in the medieval fantasy world of Splitpaw, a land governed by magic, where the greatest profession a young child could dream of is becoming a hero. Yet, being a hero is fraught with danger and only the strong are worthy of the title. Thus, those youngsters who have a thirst for adventure and the skills to match, are permitted to be trained at the hallowed halls of True Tail Academy - a school for heroes-in-training.
And so our story centers around the adventures of Caleb, a young kitten, whose only dream is to become Splitpaw’s greatest hero! Little does he know that this desire is not just a dream, but it is his birthright. It will take him on a life-or-death adventure, that will test his bonds of friendship and family (but that’s a story for a different time).
The entirety of the series takes place at True Tail Academy, a massive castle built by the land’s greatest heroes. It has everything a young hero needs: Fighting Arenas where the truly brave face off against some of Splitpaw’s most fearsome beasts - Training Grounds run by the heroes of old who don’t take no for an answer - and medieval castle Dorm Rooms where young heroes can rest up and make friends (and rivals). Surrounding the castle, is a village teaming with shops and inns with some very interesting characters.
However, it was not always this way. Not long before our little heroes entered into this world, Splitpaw was ravaged by war between two magical factions: the Light Mythical Creatures and the Dark Mythical Creatures. Because of a difference in magical practices, conflict arose! This caused a long and brutal war, which destroyed much of the land, forcing the citizens to live in constant fear. It was not until a band of brave heroes came together and sacrificed all they had, that the Dark Mythical creatures were banished to another realm. Now, Splitpaw is at peace - but the heroes feared this would not last, and so they created True Tail Academy to train the next generation of heroes. Their hopes were that a new generation of heroes would be ready if war threatened the land again.
These kids may look cute and cuddly, but training to be a hero is no joke! Caleb, a young squire, may be small but he is not going to let his size stop him from swinging his sword on the front lines. Good thing Melody always has his back. With her lute and high energy this bard sings magical songs to empower even the weakest of heroes. Then there is Viktor, the fox who was raised by a family of pirates, only to realize he'd rather have ladies screaming his name in admiration, instead of them yelling for him to return their jewels. However, sometimes you need a little brainpower to solve those complicated problems, and that's where Doh-Li comes in. Born into a family of honorable mages, this young kirin is truly gifted at casting spells and brewing any potion to heal a weary hero's wounds. These crazy four make up our main group in True Tail, but they are not the only characters in our story...
We've worked long and hard over these past six years to design and develop a wide range of appealing students, professors and monsters to inhabit the world of SplitPaw - and we're excited to finally have a chance to bring them to life! We strongly believe that the key to any engaging tale is to have interesting and dynamic characters. Great characters make a great story, and we plan to have our characters grow and develop as this tale progresses.
What’s a good adventure story without a strong villain to test the drive of our heroes? In this tale there is only one Master of Darkness, and that is Eldritch! A professor of True Tail with a secret past and an axe to grind, he is always pushing our heroes past their breaking point. It also does not help that his son is in Caleb’s class, and he just so happens to to be the leader of the strongest group of students, whose only plans are winning.
At True Tail, Eldritch is known as the Dungeon Master, since he actually runs detention, which takes place in an authentic medieval dungeon. However, this is only a cover for his true intentions, which are taking down True Tail and ridding the world of all heroes. It will be up to Caleb and his friends to master everything they can before it is too late, and war once again returns to Splitpaw.
Hello my name is Allison Sribnick! And I am Zachary Rich! And we are the creators of True Tail!
Our story begins in March of 2013, six years ago. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design (or SCAD) we got together with a group of friends and decided to do something crazy: create an online animation studio that focuses on creating our own original content. Our very first project was “True Tail.” Six years and a few iterations later we did just that. But, who are we?
Allison Sribnick - is the Writer / Art Director / Producer of True Tail. She has worked for three years in production in the animation industry on projects for Nickelodeon, Disney and SYFY. She has an extensive knowledge of what it takes to create an animated show, and the demands it can put on a crew.
Zachary Rich - is the Art Director / Animation Director / Producer of True Tail, and has a Masters of Fine Arts in Animation. He is a Professor at the Savannah College of Art and Design and understands how to teach and groom artists. He has an extensive knowledge of flash puppet animation and good storytelling.
However, we would be nothing without our amazing crew that spans the globe. From the United States to the Czech Republic all the way to Thailand, we have met and worked with people from all different continents. Because of this, True Tail may be a medieval world but it will always have a taste of culture to make it special and unique. We can’t thank them all enough for their professionalism and passion in this project.
Another group of people we would be lost without our are star-studded voice acting cast! We are so blessed to have them, and we know that without their amazing abilities this project would not shine nearly as much. They bring our characters to life!
However, we plan on bringing on more amazing talent to help voice the many different characters that make up the world of True Tail. Yet, we can’t do that without your help!
Our plan for this kickstarter is to raise $25,000, so we can produce a 3-5 minute pilot episode for True Tail. After pitching to various studios and networks over the years, we felt that Kickstarting our show would be an excellent way to bypass the waiting and finally produce some content. Our fans have been waiting patiently for six years as we’ve painstakingly developed our characters, our story, and our world - and we’re extremely excited to finally have a chance to reveal all of it!
The pilot will have TV-quality Flash puppet animation, 2D special effects animation and detailed Photoshop backgrounds. It will also include professional sound design, voice acting, and an orchestral score. Our goal is to continue producing the kind of high-quality animation that our studio is known for.
At this moment the script, voice acting, and storyboarding are all pretty much done. So our hope is, if everything goes well, to be able to bring the pilot to you in Spring of 2021 or sooner. While we may know what we’re doing when it comes to animation - we’ll need your help to make it all a reality!
Allison has worked for four years in animation production and understands how much an episode costs, and what it takes to make an animated show. Due to this we have budgeted out for every possible expense. Below is a list of each step in our development pipeline for this pilot episode, as well as the percentage of the total budget that will be allocated to them.
As you can see, we have done our best to provide adequate funds to each part of the animation process. We know animation is not cheap, and because of this, Zach and Allison have chosen to not take a single penny from the Kickstarter. Everything will go towards paying our artists to create the pilot.
To show we mean business we want to present the best rewards we can. We have lots of “True Tail” goodies for everyone - from the new fan to the die-hard hero-worshiper! We are very proud of these rewards and are excited to offer True Tail’s very first merchandise.
However, these are not all the rewards we have! If we are lucky enough to go past our Kickstarter goal and reach the next few tiers, then we will be opening up some other wonderful surprises, such as a Hardback Printed Art Book, a Caleb Plushie and much much more!
Yet, even though our goal is for just a 3-5 minute pilot, we would love to go past this and make a full-length 11-minute TV-quality episode, and beyond! The more money you pledge, the more True Tail content you’ll receive! We already have plans for future episodes in the works, and we are eager and ready to produce True Tail as an animated series.
Risks and challenges
Skynamic Studios has created several animated productions in the past six years - both for personal use and for clientele overseas. There is very little risk that our funded Pilot will not be made. The only real risk worth considering is time frame. There's always a chance that our projected delivery time (for both rewards and the final product itself) will be extended. We always pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of quality - and sometimes that quality requires us to push deadlines back.
As long as we reach our desired funding, then we don't foresee anything going wrong - but - should something happen then we will absolutely make sure to let you know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
