About this project
Mechaduino is an Arduino for mechatronics! Mechaduino is a self-contained motion control platform which allows you to develop your own custom servo mechanisms. It can be also be used as a drop-in servo motor for 3D printers and CNC machines. No more missed steps!
Engineers use servo motors to achieve the precision motion required in applications such as robotics, automation, and CNC manufacturing. Like RC servos, industrial servos actively correct for external disturbances. Unlike RC servos, industrial servos can provide very accurate motion, and often support advanced motion control modes. Unfortunately the cost of industrial servos is prohibitive to the individual maker (thousands of dollars per motor).
We've been developing an affordable open-source industrial servo motor, opening the door to sophisticated mechatronics applications. Our design leverages the low cost of mass produced stepper motors. We are able to achieve very high resolution via 14b encoder feedback (after calibration routine!).
Mechaduino began as a personal project that grew out of our recurring need for affordable, yet capable servo motors.
We began documenting the project on hackaday.io to share our designs with the world and to get feedback from other makers and engineers. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, we decided to run this Kickstarter campaign.

Risks and challenges
We have the first batch of Mechaduinos working here at Tropical Labs! The ones you receive will be nearly identical. We have been working closely with our manufacturer in preparation for this Kickstarter. We have quotes in hand for all the components. We don't anticipate any issues moving forward.
