Do Not Approach, Villains Super-Powered by M&M (RPG)
An illustrated, full-color collection of eleven villains for the M&M and CC&VF role-playing games.
Eleven original, comic book-style villains are ready to spring into action. This Kickstarter will raise funds to pay for illustrations for each character and cover art. The book will be released in PDF format as an e-book, published under the Super-Powered by M&M license. The book will also be dual-statted or released in an alternative format for Capes, Cowls & Villains Foul. The text is written up and ready for playtesting and editing. Backers will get a chance to see and comment on early versions of the characters. The villains cover a range of archetypes and styles. The emphasis is on familiar tropes, but with fresh twists. GMs will know exactly what to do with this cast of seriously bad, naughty, terrible, evil, dastardly rogues. Each profile will include a character portrait, a short bio, scenario ideas, and game stats.
Two Writeup Formats: Since the project was started, we have confirmed we will also be doing the book for CC&VF as well as M&M. Anyone who is entitled to receive a PDF copy of the book will get both writeups, regardless of format. Whether or not the book will be dual-statted depends on some layout concerns as well as details to be worked out with the licensor. If the book is delivered in two alternative formats, backers will be asked which version they want when the Kickstarter is completed.
Additional Hard Copies: If you choose a backer reward that includes a softcover of the book, you can add extra copies for $16 apiece. International backers will need to add an extra amount equal to 1st class postage for a 1 lb. package from Garland, TX to your country.
Multiattack: If you choose a backer reward that includes a PDF of the book, you can also add five gift copies for your friends by pledging an additional $10. Just say "add Multiattack" when you receive your backer reward survey.
Excess funding will activate new benefits for the project if it reaches certain thresholds.
$1500 --- Unlimited print. If this stretch goal is met, reward levels that include a print copy will be opened up to an unlimited number of backers.
$3000 --- One villain gets their own one-page graphic fiction piece. That is, a one-page, six-panel comic. A backer vote will be held at the end to determine the top villain.
$6000 -- All the villains get their own one-page fiction piece!
Risks and challenges
Based on my experience with previous projects, outreach and word-of-mouth promotion is my focus. The biggest risk is the project going overbudget. I have gotten quotes on the majority of the art that will be used, which means we will definitely be under budget. I also priced printing costs into the initial backer reward availability; more print-only rewards will open up once I am sure of clearing our printing costs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
