The Vicious Circle is a fast-paced strategy game that pits players against each other in a “hawk-eats-rabbit” frenzy based on the food chain. Use the cards in your hand to “eat” the cards laid down by your friends and claim total victory. It’s an eat-or-be-eaten world.
In this unique card game, players attempt to collect the most cards by trumping their fellows each turn and claiming stacks of cards. Learn to balance risk, greed, and timing as you read your opponents and calculate when to strike. If you win, celebrate! If you lose, adjust your strategy and play again!
How to Play
Triple S Games – Short. Strategic. Social.
A new venture for social game play, Triple S Games is a vision driven by its two primary designers: Jim Dahl and Spencer Sanders. After independently designing games for years, we met and began sharing ideas, comparing notes, giving feedback, and finally deciding to join forces with a dream of publishing our own unique brand of games. Driven by the rebuffs from big publishing houses, we decided to launch our own publishing initiative and Triple S Games was born. Together, we have about 12 games in various stages of development, and The Vicious Circle is our first attempt at professionally publishing.
Collaboration and a development community are very important in the creative field; you never know where a good idea will come from. We want to design a game company from the beginning with a community being at the center of the games we develop. We want the community to be able to vote on their favorite games we're developing, as well as give us feedback on which games you're most interested in playing. As the company's infrastructure grows, we want to design a larger community area on our website for more detailed and transparent feedback. We want our community to be a part of our company through testing game play, evaluating (or submitting) art, contributing to rules or ideas on games, and discussing games and strategies. We want to get to know you and find out what your passions are. We want to provide resources to help you develop your own games with helpful video resources and tips on how produce and manufacture new games. We want to unlock new ideas and ways of doing things that other game companies are afraid to try. "You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love" -Jim Carry. Triple S wants to do what we love, and we want to help other do what they love.
Chosen because of its simplicity to produce, The Vicious Circle (about 108 cards) is the game spearheading this Kickstarer, allowing us to learn and master the design and business side of running our own game publishing company. We've taken the proper planning to ensure our cost margin makes sense and that our rewards don't hinder our ability to make the game.
Our greatest desire is to successfully fund this game so we can learn the process of board game publishing and manufacturing with minimal risk. We would love to mass produce in China with Panda Game Manufacturing, however if the budget doesn't allow for this, we have the option to manufacture domestically with The Game Crafter. The benefit for Panda over the Game Crafter is that it will give us massive amounts of game stock that we can continue to use and sell after the Kickstarter has ended to help grow the company.
Our first couple games' manufacturing requirements are simplistic. However, we have some really diverse and complex games in development that we can't wait to share with you. By funding The Vicious Circle, you give us the opportunity to begin a successful journey for our new game company. The money raised first goes into the responsibilities of this project, but depending on how successful we are, extra resources will be reinvested into more development for future games as well as important company infrastructure. Hopefully one day we won't need to use Kickstarter anymore because you helped kickstart our dream into a reality.
A Special Request!
If you decide you would like to tell others about The Vicious Circle, please download a copy of our supporter’s packet from our Facebook page. Inside, you will find some digital goodies designed to help you spread the word about this exciting game with your friends and family.
Spread the word! The most daunting challenge for start-ups like us is reaching a large enough market, and we appeal to you as fellow game players to get your friends excited about us! Check out our videos, support our efforts, and have a grand time.
T-shirt Reward:Pick from 8 different colors. If we reach our 2nd stretch goal, you'll unlock 8 more choices of shirts everyone can pick from. (Shirt may change slightly, e.g.: the vegetation symbol art will most likely change)
Please consider giving us some feedback.
Risks and challenges
Life is full of risks, but here are the challenges we see ahead for Triple S Games: We are new to this, and we are most worried about encountering obstacles we do not see coming. Surprise costs, production delays, bad venders, shipping outside the United States… we’re concerned about it all! However, we want to share this challenge with you… all the risks and all of the rewards! To that end, we have a plan A and a plan B to share with you:
Plan A: print the game in China in bulk and ship it to the United States and parts beyond, but we estimate that will take upwards of $20,000.
Plan B: we ask for much less money: $5,000. If we don’t reach our first stretch goal then we will use a smaller company and after fulfillment our profits will be nil, but we will be successfully published.
International shipping is difficult, no matter which option you choose. We hope our success will allow us to ship large quantities of the game from the factory to fulfillment centers around the world in order to reduce shipping costs. However, there is every possibility we will not raise enough to achieve this.
Also with regards to shipping, special signed copies of the game must be shipped from the US (allowing us to sign them). We apologize that we can't offer better prices for international supporters with regards to our SPECIAL EDITIONS at this time; hopefully we can one day. Until then, we can offer the same base price when you get 10 copies. See our very special INTERNATIONAL GRASSHOPPER SPECIAL EDITION pledge level.
Keeping the game culturally diverse is both important and difficult. We've deliberately ensured there is no text in the game itself, so anyone can play no matter their native language. If you would like the rules translated into another language, please let us know and we will try to translate them for you; we also hope to create a language-specific digital resource on our website.
We want to be as transparent and honest with you and have strong communication. We believe that bad news is better than no news. We hope you will help us realize this dream, and join us on this adventure.
