My name is Sarah Woodcock, and I need your help to open Trio Plant-based—Minneapolis’ first plant-based restaurant owned primarily by people of color.
I’ve been vegan for the last six years, perfecting delicious plant-based recipes at home with my husband Dan. I became vegan because I care about animals yet I love the fact that a plant-based diet also has benefits for human health and the environment.
One thing I’ve learned is that while being vegan is integral to social change, it’s only part of the solution.
One year after I went vegan, three powerful Black women started the Black Lives Matter movement. And it woke me up to the brutalities that African Americans face in the United States. As we opened our hearts to the cause, the tragic stories compelled Dan and I to get involved. And in July 2016, Dan and I joined a protest for a Black man who had been killed by the police.
Little did we know that our future business partner, Louis Hunter, was also at that protest. Afterwards, Louis was falsely charged with rioting and was facing 20 years in prison for something he did not do. When Dan and I met Louis and heard his story, we were so moved we immediately got involved. I helped organize demonstrations in support of Louis, and just a few weeks before his trial date, miraculously, his case was dismissed.
During Louis’ordeal, he lost his business, his housing, and his vehicle. And the ordeal was traumatic to him and his four daughters. But since then, Louis, Dan, and I have formed an unbreakable bond, and we have decided to build our futures together.
Our dreams have culminated in the creation of Trio Plant-based—Minneapolis’ first plant-based restaurant owned primarily by people of color. And we need your support.
We have held three pop-up dinners that have been wildly successful, completely sold out, showcasing delicious plant-based food such as lasagna, burgers, fries, root beer floats, BBQ chicken wings, salad with our homemade ranch dressing, and our already popular vanilla cake with strawberry sauce.
We have put our hearts and souls into our food, along with our love for justice and our love for the community. We are ready to establish a brick and mortar restaurant. We have found the perfect location in Minneapolis, and we need your support now. Back our restaurant and invest in opening a plant-based restaurant where everyone, regardless of race, color, sexual orientation, gender, religion, disability, or income will have a seat at the table.
Please help us open Trio Plant-based restaurant by backing our Kickstarter project today. We are ready to take the next step and need your generous support now.
