Our Game Pipeline
Honored Captains, Backers and Friends,
This week we want to share the exciting announcement that the next Trese Brothers game, Templar Assault 2, is preparing for launch. Over the years, we have told the stories of the Star Traders universe through 3 games -- the original Star Traders RPG, Templar Assault RPG, and Star Traders 4X Empires. Now, we’re pleased to share another vision of the setting with Templar Assault 2.
We started work on Templar Assault 2 in June of 2014, and we’ve had the unique opportunity to be working with our third brother, Martin Trese, on art, story and design. As a studio, we have always lined up our projects so that we have one game in development while another is in design. Templar Assault 2 was being designed as we did development for Star Traders 4X Empires, just as we designed 4X Empires while we built Heroes of Steel. It is an exciting step forward in the process that Templar Assault 2 is nearing the end of its production phase -- it signals Star Traders 2 is nearing the end of its design phase.
Pushing the Engine
In Templar Assault 2 you lead a strike team of mechanized soldiers on a brutal campaign against the xeno threat. You’ll command, recruit, train and personalize each individual member of your army with RPG-level precision. Each Templar Knight can be hand-tailored to your playstyle and the needs of your army through in-depth leveling, unit specialization and load-out customization. The Templar Knights are the ultimate warriors of the Star Traders universe, and in Templar Assault 2, you’ll hone a unique battleforce and lead them into visceral combat across a sweeping story and in replayable skirmish battles.
Building Templar Assault 2 has helped us improve our craft in many ways. We’ve pushed the game engine, our art, and our game design skills to new heights with our latest game. As with everything we do, we are striving to make this our best game ever. Having all these new tricks, capabilities and skills in our toolkit will help us make Star Traders 2 our best game ever.
Connecting the Story Arcs
Each of the three (and soon five!) games in the Star Traders universe have provided a unique perspective on the unfolding story. In Star Traders RPG, you play a Star Trader Captain making a living among the stars, fifty years after the settlement of the Quadrant. The Templar Command fleet has gone for nearly half a century, and the Quadrant is a wild and dangerous place. Visit your local Spice Hall, and you’ll hear tall tales as to where the Templar flagships went, and why. Templar Assault RPG tells the stories of the warriors who stayed in the Quadrant to uphold Shalun Law, hunt down rogue Star Traders and man the immense defensive perimeter around the worlds of the six Factions. All the while, hundreds of splinter groups of the Star Traders are finding new homes among the stars, simply lost or unable to keep pace with the main thrust of the Exodus. In Star Traders 4X Empires, you shepherd fledgling colonies and help them build new worlds, a new empire in each Quadrant. These quadrants beckon, a million stars shining in the darkness, each quietly awaiting the Great Reunification and the story of Star Traders 2 RPG.
In Templar Assault 2, you’ll are called once again to suit up in Leviathan battle armor and take the fight to any who threaten the Star Traders. This time, you’ll follow the story of an elite squad of Templars who are ordered to defend a remote waystation along the route of the Exodus. Their mission will bring them face to face with the darkest forces in the universe and the deepest secrets of the Star Traders. Templars Assault 2 will move the story of the Factions and the Templars forward into Star Traders 2.
All games need design time. Star Traders 2 is an especially ambitious project, with so many interconnected and detailed simulation systems that its design time is even more critical. Using our method of keeping one game in design (ST2) while we build another game (TA2), we’ve forced ourselves to dedicate long stretches of hours to the design of the game’s many systems. Now, we can’t wait to move to the next phase!
As Templar Assault 2 moves into its alpha phase, we will be sure to post that news and invite here as well.
Thank you for your support,
Andrew and Cory Trese
