We recently showed off Galaxy for Hire at a local game festival. This gameplay footage is from the most up to date version of our cooperative build. Enjoy!
Galaxy for Hire is a hero-based tower defense game where players can join their friends online to fight against waves of enemies. Players fight as mercenaries, equipped with multiple unique abilities and items. In order to counter enemy advances, players must utilize real-time building of defensive structures. Our combat systems aim to promote action-oriented team play and reward players for their personal skill and strategic thought. Galaxy for Hire allows you and your friends to hop online, immerse yourselves in a unique sci-fi universe, and work together in non-competitive, action-focused gameplay.

Many games that appear similar to Galaxy for Hire focus on competitive, player versus player, gameplay. Our core focus is on cooperative gameplay that promotes team interaction in a positive manner. As gamers, we do not want to fight our friends, we want to fight alongside them.
Many popular isometric games only allow you to control your hero using a mouse, continuously clicking all over the map. This often leads players into feeling that they are controlling their characters from a distance and are not directly involved in the combat. We wanted our community to feel like they are their chosen mercenary. You have direct control. By using a combination of WASD and active abilities, you can easily evade attacks or even jump in to take a hit for your friend, saving their life.
Galaxy for Hire allows players to fight as combat-hardened mercenaries throughout the game. Each mercenary has a pool of varied, unique abilities which are equipped before each contract. These abilities are unlocked as you gain experience in combat and lend themselves to the mercenary’s specific play style, augmenting their survivability, attack range, and utility.
In addition to filling a unique role on the battlefield, you can modify a mercenary's abilities utilizing specialized items (AMPs) and even obtain new abilities through the use of active items.
While mercenaries are a huge part of our game's experience, Galaxy for Hire’s real-time turret building mechanics allow you to build defensive structures almost anywhere on a map.
These weapons platforms can be upgraded to more powerful versions and are used to defend areas of interest, provide fire support, and even force enemies to move towards specific locations or bottlenecks.
Contracts in Galaxy for Hire are self-contained missions with varying game modes and special events. Each contract has multiple objectives that your team must complete in order to gain the highest possible score and rewards. Enemy squads are generated procedurally, giving each contract a tremendous amount of variation which enhances replayability.
After the game’s release, we plan to continuously work on more contracts and game modes that will take you and your friends on new adventures and further shape the universe.
Galaxy for Hire is being designed and developed into a platform which allows us to easily release future content. The universe in Galaxy for Hire is expansive, covering multiple races, factions, territories and character stories.
Maybe you want to see more of your favorite mercenary's backstory, obtain new and powerful abilities, and have new worlds to explore. We have planned for all of these possibilities. Depending on what you, our community, desires, we will have the functionality to release new mercenaries, turrets, weapons, items, abilities, planets, contracts, visual skins and much more.
Contracts are the core of our game. For that reason, we have decided that contracts will be released for free to everyone. One thing we never want to do is segment our community. So no matter how much content we release for Galaxy for Hire, rest assured that it will always be balanced and you will always be able to play with your friends.
Our team is dedicated to producing the highest quality games possible with our available funds. Each of our assets have been hand crafted by our amazing artists, and our systems are constantly being improved to make sure that Galaxy for Hire provides you with an extremely fun and satisfying experience.
When we began talking about creating Galaxy for Hire and Trench Games, our team wanted to make a game that not only we would love, but our community would as well. We truly believe that you are the most important aspect of anything we do. Without you, we are nothing. Asking for feedback and being completely honest and open with our community is a founding goal we want to maintain as our team develops Galaxy for Hire and our future games.
We have worked really hard to lower and finalize our asking amount to represent the bare minimum of what we will need in order to produce a high quality game as fast as possible. The money we gather from Kickstarter, your money, will primarily go to funding our core team as full-time employees and contracting our other team members to finish development over the course of a year. The rest will go towards dirt cheap office space, which will enable us to work together more efficiently, as well as purchase the necessary hardware and software to release the game.
We will try and get your rewards out to you as soon as we can. Some items though, like the soundtrack and artbook, will be sent out closer to our final release date. This ensures that you have complete versions of the products which contain the most recent assets from our team. For international shipments donating to a reward tier that has a T-shirt and/or poster, please add $10 to cover the costs of shipping.
We would like to thank our friends at www.StemProductions.net for helping us create an awesome video.
Risks and challenges
Our greatest challenge comes from our goal of making a high quality game that a majority of people will enjoy. To assist with this we want to have constant feedback with our community on which ideas they really like or what they really don’t like throughout development. Our team is dedicated to the project and is devoted to excellence throughout development. If something doesn’t feel right to us or any of our testers, we try out new alternatives to really make sure the game is fun. We're devoted to making Galaxy for Hire, but without funding we won't be able to make it the game we know it can be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
