Popular Photography Magazine - "TrekPak aims to not only morph your current bag into a case, but also buck the decades long hold of velcro on adjustable layouts."
Gizmodo - "They look dead-easy to reposition and adjust so you can accomodate an ever-changing collection of camera gear."
Gizmag - "Sometimes you don't have to reinvent the wheel; you just have to add a more functional inflation valve or lightweight spoke. That's the direction that TrekPak takes in redesigning the photography backpack."
Oh, Gizmo! - "Current solutions involve replaceable dividers that are stuck with velcro. And that’s fine except there are better, more elegant systems out there and the TrekPak looks like it fits that bill."
Digg - "While TrekPak is built with photography in mind, the system can be useful to anyone with a lot of gear that needs to be neatly organized."
PetaPixel - "...does away with the annoyances of velcro by introducing a new pin system for adjusting dividers."
B&H Pulse - "It seems like a very handy and convenient idea. Better yet: the inserts can be used with your other camera bags."
What is TrekPak?
TrekPak is an innovative padded insert for protecting your gear in your favorite backpack or hard case. It uses a unique, patent-pending pin system that makes it easy to adjust dividers as your gear needs change! The system is easily customizable, durable, and water repellent. It is the ideal solution to satisfy both your comfort and gear organization needs while giving you back full power over customization!
Why create TrekPak?
TrekPak combines durability, functionality, and simplicity to create a system more versatile than anything currently on the market. While backpacking through Vietnam and Cambodia for 5 weeks with a camera backpack that was uncomfortable, not designed to fit someone my size, and straight up back breaking, I asked myself “Would it be possible to safely carry all my gear in the hiking pack I have at home in a way that is more functional and easier to use than anything else out there?” After months brainstorming over chocolate chip waffles, spending way too much time at REI, and prototyping at the expense of my thumbs, TrekPak was born!
TrekPak is the ideal solution for the adventurer or gear hauler who needs to satisfy both comfort and gear organization. I created my TrekPak to carry camera gear, but the system can be used to carry pretty much anything. Utilizing alpine backpacks and hard cases already on the market, TrekPak gives full customization to fit whatever need you may have. Whether you are a photographer, videographer, overland adventurer, or maybe just an OCD organizer, TrekPak will make you love your gear bag again. We want to get you out and on your way instead of fiddling with velcro and being bound by your gear.
So what’s all the hype really about?
What makes TrekPak really unique, is that you won’t find any Velcro. When you try to adjust a normal gear bag while out in the field, you know how frustrating it can be. The Velcro sticks where you don’t want it to, is hard to pull apart, and just looks messy and cluttered. Our patent pending system uses anodized aluminum pins and durable padded dividers to offer limitless organizational options. The TrekPak pin system is much easier to adjust, very secure, and straight up, it’s slick.
Each TrekPak insert snugly and seamlessly fits the bag or case it is designed for, and it is easy to insert or remove. This allows TrekPak to give you an awesome gear bag when you need it, but you can still use your pack without the insert when you don’t. So no more sacrificing your comfort and sanity to carry ridiculous amounts of gear. And, who doesn’t want two products for the price of one?!
Why are we so excited?!
We love adventures. They are what keeps the wonder in our soul, and makes us want to see and experience more! We hope TrekPak will let you focus more on where you want to go and what you want to do rather than what you can’t bring with you. The thought of getting TrekPak into the hands of other adventurers like you makes us jump around with excitement!!
In addition to being psyched simply because we’re just easily excited, we have top photographers around the country ringing us on FaceTime when we’re at the grocery store and zumba class asking when they can get their TrekPak! The amazing support and interest within the photography community and off-road industry has pushed us to create a top quality product that we are proud to share!
What others are saying about TrekPak:
"TrekPak is the most logical, efficient system for photographers yet. Everything about it just makes sense." - Mark Fitzgibbons, Fitz Photo
“…being designed like a hiker's backpack I was sold… You have solved all the issues that the other backpacks have.” - Dan Frievalt, Frievalt Photography
“Your product and concept looks great!” - Jordan Chan, Jordan Portrait Design
“The TrekPak system works great with my pelican case. I love the durability and the fact that I can easily clean everything. If you have ever seen my equipment you know that it doesn’t get babied. It gets used. My old fabric lining and Velcro was constantly covered in leaves and grass. The washable sides of the TrekPak system are great to help keep my gear clean and organized.” - Ben Shirk, Shirk Photography
“The TrekPak concept is very interesting in that it allows a photographer a wide assortment of backpacks to be used as a camera bag. It also offers versatility to use a backcountry panel-loading ski pack as it was intended for skiing off a backcountry mountain one day and then use the same pack to transport camera gear the next day. All the features of a cutting edge pack design with a totally modular camera divider system to protect your camera kit. This will be a great tool for any adventure, travel, landscape or even many wedding photographers needing a versatile solution for camera gear and beyond.” - Peter Holcombe, Holcombe Photography
Out on the trail, the last thing I need to do is rummage through cases. TrekPak puts my time and energy back where it should be!" - Paul Stapell, High Trail Expeditions
The TrekPak inserts shown here are nearly production-ready prototypes. The funds raised with your help will allow us to finalize the design and manufacturing process, purchase materials for our first production run, and best of all, keep the manufacturing here in the U.S!
The standard Trekpak insert for hiking packs and hard cases features black or gray nylon fabric, and black anodized aluminum pins. The pins shown in the video and pictures have not yet been anodized. Right now we are supporting the Men's and Women's Deuter Freerider Pro alpine packs as well as 15 different sizes of Pelican Cases. We can't wait to support more packs and cases in the future!
We really worked hard to make sure we have something for everybody when we planned out what rewards to offer. (This pledge level does not include manufacturing costs or shipping of the final product(s), since these may vary significantly).
That's All Folks!
Thanks for stopping by to check out TrekPak! We hope you like it and we appreciate your support!
Nope. The pins are sized precisely to fit snugly in the holes and pull/compress the dividers together when inserted. Also, when the bag or case is closed, the pins are long enough that they simply can't come out.
We've evaluated several different material options for the pins including reinforced plastic. We found that the plastic simply was not stiff or strong enough to keep the dividers in place without flexing or breaking. Aluminum has much greater strength, stiffness, and durability and can be anodized in a variety of different colors.
We'll supply you with plenty of extra pins and dividers of different sizes so that you can configure your TrekPak however you like. The exact number of pieces provided depends on which bag or case they are for. The extra pins can be stored in the dividers themselves so you don't lose them!
Nope. When the pins are inserted they are very low-profile. They stay securely in place and won't fall out and bounce around in your bag. In addition, we are currently evaluating rubber coating/dipping the pins so that they are even more gentle and secure. Being photographers ourselves, gear protection is our top priority!
How about you just add $5 to the US shipping option and we'll call it even.
