A gaming experience that has the story, look, and feel of an RPG, with the jumping and puzzle solving mechanics of a 3D platformer. Read more

About this project
Forbidden Sanctity is a game of mixed genres, an RPG adventure game and a 3D platformer! To more clearly explain the gameplay since none is shown, I will explain how you play. In the game you control Malachi, a young Hemite. You will play in the 3rd person perspective. At first you only have control of Malachi but as you progress through the story you will unlock more characters they will be added to your party. As you unlock more characters you are able to switch between them to utilize their different abilities! Certain parts of the game will favor the RPG genre as you will be able to buy, forge, and collect new weapons while leveling up your character also. Combat will not be turn based, but live action. You have the choice to initiate certain battles, but if you get too close to an enemy of a much higher level, you might be left with no choice but to fight! Once in combat you rely on skill to win the battle, not turn based strategy. Other areas of the game are heavily influenced by the 3D platform genre! The jumping mechanics will be different for each type of character, the Skarcos will be able to jump and glide, the Hemites can double jump, and the Groutus have the shortest jump. Each character will have different abilities to solve different types of puzzles! The Groutus have special technology that the other tribes can’t use, also being smaller helps fit into small places! A Groutus can sneak through a crack in the wall, and open a door from the other side to get the others through! Another example might be a large gap across a ledge and only a Skarcos can glide across, then from the other side of the ledge, you can knock down a tree so that you can get any character across! There will be a huge focus on the narrative in the game but you will not be restricted and forced to play on it’s timeline, as you can freely explore areas and take on sidequests!
Our campaign will be updated weekly! We will be posting at least three updates, one in the updates section area, another in our Backer-Only Update Section, and another on our Facebook page! The Backer-Only updates will be comprised of more privileged or more intriguing information! So be sure to come back each week to show the campaign some love and be sure to head over and like our Facebook page to see all other updates as they happen! www.facebook.com/treefallstudios

Note* All aspects of gameplay have been created in the free version of Unity, more things will be possible to portray more professionally as we upgrade to the Pro version after the Kickstarter! Water effects, lighting, and other aspects will be upgraded significantly! Also most shots are taken in-editor and not gameplay, in which they would look even better actually rendered for gameplay. Thanks for your understanding.
In the beginning, there were three races, or tribes lived together in the same region, all occupying the same surface. The Hemites were lead by King Thedin and they were great warriors. They almost seemed as beasts of the earth. They have large lumps protruding from their brows. Their canine teeth are large and sharp, resembling that of a jaguar. They also have thick fore arm hair that can be hardened in self defense to protect from bites and even swords on occasion. The Skarcos were nicknamed “children of the sky” as they were born with body features unnatural to the Hemites. The Skarcos were born with thin, flexible flaps of skin connecting their arms to their torso. They also developed long and unusual looking ears that protruded out so far off their head that they flopped down over themselves, or stand straight up pointing to the sky. The Skarcos were weak in stature in comparison to Hemites, however they were much more agile, easily moving through the air. They are also a very perceptive tribe. The third tribe was called the Groutus. They were were smaller than both of the other tribes. From birth the Groutus children have a natural instinct that urges digging beneath the earth. This tribe was also the most intelligent and quick witted, always researching and learning. They spent most of their time indoors or underground in shallow tunnels, avoiding all sunlight. The Groutus were lead by the earth Queen, Shanei. As it is recorded, the King of the Skarcos, Edian, waged war on the Groutus, causing the Medallion of Peace to become broken. The medallion contained magical properties of old, and existed as an almighty power to defeat any evil that opposed the one wearing the medallion. The medallion’s power was only potent if all three tribes were at peace. This war became known as the Great Judgement. After three years of fighting, the tribes created a treaty. In agreement with each other, the Skarcos retreated to build a city in the clouds never to be seen again. The Groutus tribe dug deep beneath the surface of the land in an attempt to colonize the depths, never to be heard from again. The warriors of the Hemite tribe remained on the land to live as they had always known. As each tribe split and went their own way, a piece of the medallion was kept by each leader. Each leader then appointed a family to become Sages. These Sages were then labeled as “protectors of the peace”, charged with only one duty, to protect the Peace Medallion Shard. Centuries have passed since this great event. History has become myth, and these myths are now told to the tribes as if they were only fables. There is an ultimate darkness arising. An unknown tribe from the North, far beyond the reaches of Hitral, is moving forces towards the borders intending to destroy all life and start anew. The force is led by something so unstoppable that the only hope in existence, is the truth of the ancient myths. Shadow Beasts lead these vicious tribes in an assault against the Hemite Tribes. These beasts are no longer alive. Nor are they dead. They are caught between life and death, fallen to evil. They are hooded creatures with glowing eyes. One eye is green and the other red. These symbolize the life they once had and the side they now serve. Their cloaks are dark and tattered, remnants of an old empire, ages ago. This is the first sign of the old prophecies that tell of a hidden evil awakening once more, coming true. A young Hemite, named Malachi, who was always intrigued about the ancient legends, will stumble across some events which lead to his travel across the world of Hitral in order to unite the mythical tribes once again. He then starts a journey to delve beneath the earth and find the lost Goutus tribe and retrieve the missing Medallion shard. From there he would hopefully find a way to gather the Skarcos’ shard, if such a thing even exsisted...
As natural life goes, light repels darkness. Evil will always try to vanquish the Good. There is a deep evil that exists in the seams of the world. Hitral is a home to all the tribes and its many creatures, but a devastating evil also exists. Before the time of the Great Judgement War, this evil was banished and fled voluntarily as it was defeated when the tribes originally obtained peace. The evil power was diminished and fled from the power of the Medallion. All that was left of this evil force formed a new region in Hitral. It was deemed unreachable and only believed to be inside the fabric of Despair Region. However some evil remained, and it was this very evil that whispered the temptations into the minds of the Kings and Queens during the Peace Period, as it is now called. King Edian was the first to fall to this persuasion. This is a testament to the evil's power as the Skarcos are naturally quick witted and perceptive to lies. He then attacked and waged war and the evil began to resurface. The dark one who convinced Edian was called Lodren. As the war ended and the peace treaty came into existence, all traces of Lodren and this evil shrunk back into the seams of Despair. He warned the Kings and Queens that day however. Although peace was achieved and the shards held their power still, if the tribes spent time apart from the others, the power of the shards will diminish, slowly losing their potency, and the evil shall rise again.
Mabyn (forever youth) - Groutus
Mabyn is a beautiful Groutus girl. She is always joyful and playful no matter the situation, if you need someone to pick you up, it would be her! She has been raised and taught to respect others, including individuals from other tribes. Her name name means forever youth translated from the original Welsh language. She is a valiant and important member of the party. She is a very intelligent creature, as knowledge seems to come natural to the Groutus. She carries technology and equipment that the other tribes have never seen before. She is always polite and treads carefully when needed, while at points her overflowing joy can cause her to be a little reckless.
Malachi (my messenger) - Hemite
Malachi is the main character of the game. He is a Hemite raised under strict authority. His father is the leader of his particular clan. His mother and brother were captured by a rival clan when he was very young and ever since the incident, his father has gone hard on him for just about every action he has taken. He has been under the impression that the other tribes do not exist and that the old wars were just legend, nothing more than a myth. He perception changes a little after the Dark Ones from the Far Lands arrive. As all prophecies seem to be true, he must fight everything he has been taught and begin the adventure to discover and reunite all 3 tribes against this seemingly unstoppable evil. Despite his father's attitude, he keeps a positive outlook on life, even if there is no positive thing to be found. His temper can be raised easily and he has an incredibly protective nature due to his past family experiences. He is the leader and protector of the party.
Hemites also have an ancient power passed down from tribe to tribe. Hemite Elders of old mastered the power of controlling special stones called "Shifting Stones" in which the Hemite who held the stone, could then communicate with animals and creatures in their native tongue. Each Hemite warrior would go through this process after a series of trials were passed. Hemites then pick an animal to communicate with and then bond. If the bond is mutual, the Hemite gains the ability to transform into the animal. The bonded animal will be absorbed into the Hemite and live inside of him or her. The animal will be able to see out, use it's senses, and also communicate with it's Hemite host. Even after a bond has happened, as long as a Hemite is in possession of a Shifting Stone, they can still communicate with any animal or creature. Many great Hemite warriors have picked Lions, Bears, massive reptiles, and huge beasts of the fields, but our hero and main character Malachi, has chosen a badger.
Jabin (perceptive) - Skarcos
Jabin is a Skarcos from a semi-average home. His parents brought him up on respect and he has been taught the legends and stories of the other tribes, but he is not so sure he believes everything. He is a critical thinker and very perceptive, which is also the meaning of his name in Hebrew. He analyzes and over thinks most everything, but he is always first to answer correctly. He is full of quick wit and great at problem solving. He was never the most athletic Skarcos however, but his brain overcame his other shortcomings.
Don't worry TreeFall Studios is now a licensed Nintendo Developer.
This game was developed specifically for the Nintendo Wii U. There are many gameplay possibilities and things we can utilize with the Wii U and it's gamepad controller that are not possible with any other system. In this game we plan to take advantage of the Gampad touch screen and it's other unique elements. The map screen of each location will be conveniently placed on the Touch Screen for better visibility on the actual TV. Also weapons, potions, items, and abilities can be equipped with a simple touch on the Gamepad touch screen. We plan to integrate the microphone capability as well. For activities such as plucking a dandelion, then physically blowing on the Nintendo Wii U Gamepad will cause the dandelion to be blown away, sending seeds into the air. We believe it is the little details that count most of the time to make a great game. Many other controller features will be used and revealed in time. We plan to launch a MiiVerse community specifically destined for the many aspects of the game. The community will be a great place to give help, seek advice, and talk about side-quests, forging weapons, exploring the worlds, and advancing through the story. We plan to take advantage of many of Nintendo's new exciting control, social, and online features.
There has been a lot of time invested in thinking of applications and uses of the Wii U Gamepad. The controller itself really is the centerpiece and high point of the Wii U console. So many different things can be achieved or innovated using this very special controller. We plan to do our best to go above and beyond in our utilization of the Gamepad's unique capabilities. We have many ideas in store ready to be tested! We plan on breaking down the touch screen into multiple sections in which you can continue with gameplay, without pausing, and you can use the swipe of your finger to switch and equip items, scan the map of the surrounding area, read quest information, and switch the members of your current party and player. We plan to also make the game completely playable on the Gamepad without needing the TV, however this mode will sacrifice key touch control features mentioned above. In the previous section we mentioned taking advantage of things such as the Gamepad's microphone. In certain instances of the game this feature alone might have the capacity to change the entire experience based on immersing the player into the gameplay by adding depth, not gimmicks. This is a core RPG style of game, and silly maneuvers are not what the Gamepad is about.

Minimal Funding Goal -$27,500
The base funding goal for this game is 25,000 dollars. With this money you are ensured a great Wii U title along with a PC release and high quality rewards, much better than anything you may have received from TreeFall in the past! However this is just the start, and to receive a truly amazing, industry changing experience we will need to reach a few stretch goals to bring you the greatest product possible!
Stretch Goal 1 - $30,000
This gives the Team a little extra to keep them going! With this goal met will be able to provide a few extra months of work on the game, which will create a much better end product.
Stretch Goal 2- $40,000
If this goal is met then we would have a substantial increase in funds, this would give us the ability to add a local multiplayer mode to the game. In this mode a friend would be able to assist you by controlling another member of your party! This would aid the player and should be a whole lot of fun!
Stretch Goal 3- $50,000
In this stretch goal we would almost double the length of the entire game. Sure we already have an awesome game planned out, and it is just about perfect if I do say so myself, but hey, with double the money, double the game right?
Stretch Goal 4- $125,000
If this goal is met we will add an online multiplayer Co-op mode in which the game will be far extended. In this mode, it is an open world, players will be able to play with others all around the world showing off their gear, completing quests, and solving all new puzzles from characters in the online world which were not available or seen in the story mode! Each player will get to customize their own character, choose a tribe, and create features for their personal online character. Explore the full world on Hitral and its vast locations in a multiplayer universe. This will attempt to creature a massive online community using Miiverse and other Nintendo Network features to provide one of the best experiences ever!
Stretch Goal 5- $275,000
If you have made it this far down the campaign, and are still reading, we hope you are very interested in this project! If this goal is met, then we will release a prequel/connecting game, called Forbidden Sanctity: United Tribes for the Nintendo 3DS/2DS. This version would have online capabilities and would connect to the Wii U game Forbidden Sanctity. This would then establish the beginnings of a Forbidden Sanctity franchise. There will also be secret content only found by players of each game as they connect.
TreeFall Studios has completed 3 original titles in the lifetime of the studio. We have had two successfully completed Kickstarter projects in the past, first Journey of a Special Average Balloon, and second, Night Detective. With each title we release we grow in experience and talent. We have had a semi shaky past with our Kickstarter projects in the past as they were extremely low budget games and did not allow us to devote our full efforts into developing the games. This caused development times to increase as well as the creation of backer rewards, but with this goal being much higher and more substantial we shall devote our full efforts into developing this larger scale game delivering a much higher quality project on a faster paced schedule. We hope you check out our previous releases and support them as well! If you would like to support us you can find the purchase links for these games below. Hopefully they can a reference to our credibility as well.
There are twelve tribes in the Ashne Kingdom. Each year, a different tribe is required to bring forth a "collection" to the mad King Dinglah who rules the land. If the collection is not met, he will send out forces to destroy the entire tribe. Nomi, a creature from the nomadic earth tribe has volunteered in this year's collection in order to protect his friends and family. The DLC levels shown in the first video below are included in the main game for free.

Night Detective is an adventure point and click puzzle game! The game is centered around the mysterious man who only appears under the cover of darkness. This man is only known by the name of "Night Detective". Some people believe he is a criminal, others believe he is strange, and the rest do not know what to believe. For most, his existence is only a rumor.

Risks and challenges
TreeFall Studios is now expanding and changing everything. Currently, all of the games we have released have been products of my partner and my spare time. We both hold jobs and many situations have arose of the course of developing Journey of a Special Average Balloon, The Gem Collector, and Night Detective. Our development period for Night Detective was severely increased as different challenges arose in our personal lives. Each Kickstarter project that we have created in the past have all had small funding goals which did not provide money for us to use during the development, we just used them to get the necessary equipment needed to make the games, and then they would be finished as soon as we had enough time to get together between work, and family events. However this project is a game on a much larger scale. This title will be comparable to AAA titles and other large studios. TreeFall has expanded it's team from myself, Eli, and Joseph my partner, to containing 4 full time employees. We have added a new artist, and a new 3d modeler/level designer. We also have a couple more contributors who will work with us on our games, just not full time employees. With this project, we have set a funding goal that will provide us with enough compensation to ensure we will be able to work on this game everyday, full-time with no interruptions, for an estimated development period of around 6 months to a 18 months. We have the skills combined with the time on this project to create a stellar Wii U exclusive version, and release a standard PC version alongside of our Wii U title. There are risks that come with this project that are similar to the risks and challenges we faced with Night Detective and our other projects. One way to overcome is through contracts. Joseph and I have hit many, many bumps along the way, and sometimes things just might not line up in the greatest way and he could be forced to quit the company for the his lack of free time for example. After this Kickstarter project is funded, if successful, I will have a legal document drafted in which all members of the team will sign. This will state the payment each member has received after the Kickstarter Campaign and by signing, they commit to the full development period and cycle of this game, Forbidden Sanctity. If they can no longer commit and work full time for whatever reason, they will have agreed to provide all the funds, or partial funds(depending on circumstances) back to the company in order to hire another member to continue in that employees place. We hope that if those specific challenges arise, we will be able to overcome them by the foundation we laid in stone before the start of the major development cycle. Other challenges might arise, but we fully believe we have the experience now, as it grows and with each project we create, that we will be able to come together, brainstorm, and find a way to persevere through each challenge no matter what.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
