When is BPOW? August 10-11
What is BPOW?
Our mission is create a summer festival that celebrates the DIY electronic music scene, while empowering and teaching people to start creating themselves. It's Portland's first festival devoted to teaching its attendees the skills they need to take part in the music they love.
BPOW!!! will oscillate wildly from circuit design workshops to DJ and stage performances, keynotes from prominent circuit benders, synth builders and general electronic brainiacs to raw public performance. Our vision is to completely immerse people in a music scene that's created through a few alligator clips and sheer ingenuity.
Why We Need You
We're doing most of this on heart alone and that, unfortunately, doesn't quite foot the bill. We're looking for the generous contributions of the masses to help pay all of our amazing performers, workshop leaders and speakers. Also we need a little help providing the components and equipment for our workshops.
Why the World Needs BPOW!
BPOW!!! stands to be the first foray into DIY electronic music for a lot of people who have found the scene to be intimidating to break into. Portland knows custom made and it has so much in the way of ways to learn, but when it comes to building electronics, there isn't too much out there. BPOW!!! stands to be the ultimate introduction to a burgeoning musical iconoclast and another enrichment to the ones who already live for DIY electronic music.
Who is doing this?
We are also helped and supported by all sorts of amazing people from Portland, and here's a few who will be leading workshops, performing, or otherwise helping us at the event:
Risks and challenges
There aren't too many risks for this project. Our venue has been donated, and most of the people involved are doing this because they believe in it and love it, volunteering their time, expertise, and help. We've got an unbelievable group of people coming together for this, each and all bringing their own unique passion, knowledge, and talents for electronic arts. Thought provoking, fun, and totally inspiring -- BPOW stretches the horizons of awareness and opens the doors of perception. We've got many of the necessary material supplies already gathered, but we still have to purchase/make the Conductive-Ink Synth Postcards, Posters, and Arduino Synth Kits, and for that we need money. We also need to pay the artists and experts, and cover travel expenses for everyone coming together to make this happen.
