"The Burrow" - Yonah Paley's Debut Album Recorded in Bangkok
I'm currently backpacking through Southeast Asia. I'd love to record my debut album in Bangkok, Thailand, but I need your help!
"Music doesn't lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music." - Jimi Hendrix
My name is Yonah. I recently quit my job in New Jersey to travel through Southeast Asia. All I brought with me was a backpack and a guitar. Now that I'm safely situated in Bangkok, I've decided to record an album. I have written several folk/rock songs over the last couple of years, and would like to record on something better than my Ipod microphone! There will be approximately 10 songs on the album, dealing with various themes, such as introspection, depression, and getting past life's struggles. The title will be "The Burrow." Here is a demo of one of my songs, "Plane 21" which I actually completed in Thailand (on a multi-track recorder app):
Plane 21 has been around for a long time,
In her hangar, waiting there for the right time.
And she tells herself each day,
That she is not like any other.
And the wheels at her feet do not tremble.
They only cause her pain.
The pilot’s boy, he’s been in her just this morning,
Flying high above the sun at its dawning.
But the plane sat on the ground,
With a tired groan from the cockpit.
And the boy, he is eight, he’s just dreaming.
Of the man he wants to be.
She spends her time with bitter tears she is crying,
Leaking fuel, it’s as if she is dying.
Plane 21 you’re not so old,
And you’ll have your day in the big sky,
The past isn’t dead, it’s just waiting,
In the clouds above the trees. ♫♪♫
As I reach various Kickstarter milestones I will release more songs. There is much I'd love to share with you! I don't really know much about music production and mixing, so I will find a producer in Southeast Asia to collaborate with, helping me with arrangements and mixing. I also play the harmonica and slide guitar, and will maybe even try to find some Thai musicians to session play on the album!
Since travelling, I've had the time to work more on my music, honing the songs which mean so much to me. I would absolutely love to bring them together into a great-sounding album!
The plan is to record and master in Thailand (or whatever Southeast Asian country I happen to be in), then come back to the United States to release it in Vinyl, CD, and digital formats. Your rewards will be sent out shortly after release.
I'm very excited for this project, and even more excited to work with you on this Kickstarter! Every dollar counts, so please help if you can. I really really appreciate any support!
Risks and challenges
Not a lot of local Thais speak English, so I will have to either find an English-speaking producer, or work with a translator or some other non-verbal form of communication. However, I think that most producers here will have worked with English speaking musicians at some point. I don't think it will be too tough of a challenge to find a producer; hey, it might be fun!
I also don't know yet if I'll meet many Thai musicians to record with. However, I did have a great jam session with a Thai drummer the other day, so I'm sure it won't be much of a problem!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
