Have a question?
The music is... wow! I didn't know washing dishes can sound so epic!
The day/night cycle is also masterfully crafted in both visuals and audio.
Though there were too many puns starting out (which, well, it hearkens to QFG XD) but as the game progresses, it becomes much less jarring.
There are only a few gripes (very minor ones):
1) It's so tough to get merit points early on! - Then again, it does feel like a great achievement when you start raking them in.
2) There are so many skills to learn! - I am bewildered with what I should delve on with...
3) So little time! - The day pass so fast as compared to QFG.
4) So many people! - I am not sure if we should curry favor to everybody in the game or just play it out organically. Also, I'm not sure if there are any timed events I'm missing out or if there are any that are happening simultaneously and you'd have to choose which to go. The pressure!
Also, clues to the sequel. There will be a few installments to this series, right? Probably one for each class?
I mean, if it takes 4 years each, I'd probably be dead before I can finish the whole series.
Please make them faster. XD
It’s hard to understate how well this game turned out and how deeply it gives me that same amazing experience I was having back with my first Quest for Glory game (number 5). To this day, QfGV is one of my favorite games and Hero-U is perhaps even better so far.
This game is everything I was hoping it would become and so much more!
Masterfully done!!! Deeply engaging!
You two are still making games like nothing else and they’re STILL incredibly satisfying. Thank you for keeping at it even after multiple Kickstarters. I will be looking forward to finishing this game and also looking forward to any future games you work on!
I absolutely LOVE this game. As soon as I started playing I felt I was back starting my adventuring in QFG1 again. The game totally feels like a Sierra Adventure Game and has all the spirit and references to the original QFG series. After all these years since the last QFG game, I got extra excited gaining my 'Detect' magic skill back (missed my magic!).
The game has a great story and lots of re-playability. I am up to my third play and I am STILL discovering new things. I like the 'Colonel's Bequest' style of gaming Hero-U has where you sometimes need to be in the right place at the right time to meet people or hear things. You also need to search EVERYTHING, read a lot, among other things...
Few people have mentioned time issues. I can only say, listen to teacher. You will have more than enough time if you do.
Can't wait for the next two games! Great work Lori and Corey!
@Netmaster The Gog.com code does indeed work. 1} click redeem code and enter your key. Instead of using Galaxy, use the other download option. It works trust me.
I love how the Hero-U Configuration window only has 1 Graphics quality option and it’s “Fantastic” lol! Very clever
NetMaster - We have over 1,000 players so far using GOG, so I don't think your experience is typical. Have you communicated with GOG technical support? Could you be more specific about the way in which Galaxy does not work?
COG has still been unable to deliver a working version of their Galaxy software, so I have been unable to utilize my COG key. They keep saying it is fixed, but it never is :(
Perhaps COG was a bad choice for the distibution of the software?
I just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying the game so far. It took a long time (backed the original KS, too) and there were lots of road bumps, but I personally feel it was worth it. Will definitely back another Hero-U game, or any adventure game you guys do, really.
Worth the wait. If you make another game like this I hope we get a chance to visit Eire. I'll back another new game regardless of the setting, though.
I never thought I'd have a chance to feel the same joy from a QFG-style game again, but Hero-U has done it. All I can say is thank you.
Congratulations ! The game is released ! You did it :-)
Although it must be extremely satisfaying to have achieved this goal, I can imagine how stressfull and exhausting this last years must have been for you and your team. I wish you a lot of success with the Hero-U series !
By the way, as planned, I have completed the first Quest for Glory game ! It took me 15 hours (without using any hintbook) but I finally saved the town :-) It really was a unique experience, and I bet Hero-U is also a one of its kind game ; I'm eager to try it !
PS: Here are a few pictures I took to immortalize my adventure [SPOILER ALERT]

Congrats on the release!
Here's to a successful release of a new game. And may you enjoy it.
@Corey Cole: That is fantastic news! - that you are getting support with the finances right now and for future games too. Really excited, and wishing you the very best and continued success :)
Hello just to say I received the backerkit with the game rewards e-mail. But I accidently removed it. Can I request a new e-mail? Thankyou
@Elbereth - Comparing our games to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars is high praise indeed! Thank you. You were probably wise to stay away from the updates - watching the development of Hero-U might have been a bit like watching sausage (or politics) being made.
One thing we did not expect when we ran the two Kickstarter campaigns was how much of a financial risk they would be for us personally. Fortunately, an outside backer came through earlier this year to help us reduce and manage that risk. That backerhas also promised to support Hero-U through the entire series, which will provide a lot of stability going forward.
Expect some very interesting news to come over the next few years! :-)
Hello. Don't think I have posted here before. I simply made my pledge, supported and promoted the kickstarter until it got fully funded, and largely vanished. I didn't want updates - I wanted to be completely blind as to what to expect, like avoiding trailers before a movie. I have popped-up again now that the game is almost out.
I have seen comments from those unhappy with the game taking so long, but I was always confident the game would be completed (how could the COLEs fail, you of little faith), and any delays only made me more excited because it meant more content and better quality. I have read of ideas that couldn't be implemented in past games or bugs that couldn't be found, having to keep to deadlines. Therefore this creative freedom to take the time necessary to properly complete the game that a Kickstarter project allows is something I wholeheartedly support. Also, having some programming background, I can see why a game similar to QFG takes time considering how layered the game is, and how it provides so many different possibilities each time you play.
Now, even if by some impossible misfortune, the game hadn't got completed, I would have been happy I got the opportunity to support the creators of QFG. The series is almost as old as I am, so I only discovered the treasure when I was around 15 and was thus introduced to the RPG genre. It is hands-down the best games I have ever played, and stays with me similar to the Lord of The Rings or Star Wars movies/books. I remember something or the other about QFG everyday. I wish QFG can be a movie someday.
Congratulations on reaching Beta stage, and I am confident the game will be a phenomenal success - nothing remotely similar to QFG can be anything otherwise :) Thank you to the Coles and your team, for making Hero-U and putting the unimaginable effort that clearly goes into it.
How do you think that makes Lori and me feel? After all, we were old by game industry standards when we started (over 30). :-)
Lori, and Corey Cole. I am super happy for this most awesome game to be released... I have loved you guys games since 1989. Damn that's makes me feel old folks. Chadly.
(FYI, we fixed Loranna's issue via email and BackerKit)
Hi Corey and Lori,
I pledged and thought I'd be in the alpha group but did not get an invite? Are you sending them out to Steam using our email addresses? I changed mine on steam. I would hate to miss it because of that. If you're inviting certain people I understand.
@Corey Cole. It's nice to see this Kickstarter on it's way to completion. So many have failed. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for it's release.!:)
So glad you didn´t get struck by lightning sitting on the potty or something!
Can´t wait to play the game. I wish I´d singed up for Alpha-testing......
Ben, I assume you were asking why the update didn't come out that week? Combination of health and business issues. It's up now. Target dates are about the same - shooting for full Alpha early next week, Beta late February to mid-March, and release mid- to late-April.
As we get farther in testing, it's clear the game won't be out in February. My target launch date is April 15, but there is a possibility we'll be done earlier. Update coming this week.
@Colin: The most recent video on Youtube (alpha footage, not the final trailer yet) says “coming soon” at the end of the video. In the comments it says “Currently in Alpha Testing as of November 2017, the expected release date is February or March 2018.”
(BTW in the video there is some screen tearing in the hallway scene, but that is an artifact of capturing the video, it’s confirmed in the comments that it does not happen in the game).
Hi just noticed the hero u trailer which says its coming soon this month. I am really looking forward to playing this game.
MadJo: Yikes! I didn't see that you had requested a key. Check your email for the key and instructions.
If anyone else has not received their Quest for Glory, Jolly Rover, or MacGuffin's Curse key, or if you can't find it, please send email to support (at) Hero-U (dot) net and I'll track it down.
Ben: Your wish is granted - I just posted an update.
No videos this time. I just need to figure out the tools and make one - problem with no marketing department. At Sierra, they did all that for us. :-)
@MadJo: I got mine months (if not a year) ago. Go here and enter your Kickstarter email address, and see if there are digital rewards waiting for you:
I was looking through my backerkit stuff, and I remembered that your project was still ongoing. One of the rewards I purchased through Backerkit was a GoG-key for Quest for Glory. When will these be sent out? Before or after the game is released?
Is it ok to ask for another status update? How is Alpha/pre-Alpha testing coming along? I would really like to see some "moving pictures". Also I don´t see any advertisement on gog.com or steam so how does your current timetable look like?
Lawson, yes, in the update. We've had a testable version for a month, but it's taken a while to build in the automated reporting system and fix some bugs that it told us about.
Any word on Alpha and Beta testing?
Keep up the great work!!
Hope all is well! Keep working hard!
Awesome! Can't wait until this game is released... the QFG series was one of my favorites and I look forward to seeing what you've done with Hero-U.
New update is posted 28 March 2017. Alpha and Beta testing are coming!
Looking forward to next update!
Hope everything is going well. Looks like we are buying a new home soon and I have a downstairs wall that I cant wait to put my print on :-) Blessings to you!
Happy New Year... well almost, but hope you all are enjoying a great holiday and looking forward to playing Rogue to Redemption in 2017... must admit I am looking forward to it the most next year!
Thought this might be of interest to people here...Quest for Glory 1-5 is now on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/502750/
Hey there friends I hope all is going well! Keep up the good work!
Yah, sorry Dablue (and other backers). I started an update in late May with a Memorial Day theme, decided it was too controversial and generally not working, and went through four or five more drafts before posting the current one. In the meantime, we had Orlando, Baton Rouge, Dallas, etc., all events that tied in with my original post. I might go back to that at some point for the hero-u.com site, but it wasn't enough about the game for here. Anyway, new update posted. Any ideas for a theme for the next one?
Time for an update? Was thinking about this project the other day , hence my question.
Caleb - Did you get an email notification of the new update I just published? The previous one was two months ago due to a family emergency (don't worry - it turned out to be much less of a big deal than it at first appeared). I was a little too distracted to post one last month.
Hey there! Just wanted to say I haven't been getting updates emailed to me. Hopefully we can get that fixed :) glad to see progress is going well. Thanks for all your hard work on the game. I'm confident its gonna be great and look forward to getting my hands on it
Understood. It's never an easy thing to make a game especially one that is so open-ended.
Lim Yeow Seng: Hero-U needs a lot more than polishing. It will be out this year for certain, but isn't close to beta yet. I plan to do a new update this weekend with details. We've added a writer, and are adding a programmer. In the meantime, we're redoing some of the background art that wasn't up to the standard of the newer scenes. It's a huge, complex process.
Hey there, Mr. Cole! Are we still expecting the game to be ready next month or does it still need some polishing?
