The Settlers of Catan board we've all been waiting for. Portable, affordable, and true to Catan craftsmanship.
Introducing the Official "Settlers of Catan" Gaming Board!
As Seen On
IMPORTANT NOTE: To pledge for multiple products, add up the dollar amount of the rewards you'd like to receive and set your pledge value to that total. A survey sent out following the end of the Kickstarter period will confirm each product you will receive, as well as engraving info. Increasing your pledge level will not affect the delivery dates or cause you to lose early bird special rates. Because of the differences in production timelines, however, you may receive some pledges before others. Please see more FAQs at the bottom of the page.
Finally... a board built by Catan players for Catan players
This project was born from countless hours of playing Klaus Teuber's award-winning game, "The Settlers of Catan", with family and friends.
We discovered that shifting frames and hex tiles were a frustration shared by nearly all Catan fans. So we designed a portable and affordable board to securely hold the tiles, allow you to play on nearly any surface, and focus on what's best: playing Catan.
We shared our idea with the teams at Catan Inc. and Mayfair Games and have been working closely with them ever since to bring these boards to the entire Catan community.
The CEO of Mayfair Publishing was kind enough to share a few words of encouragement to us and the Catan community.
We could not be more excited to bring you our officially licensed products!
A Note From the Licensor:
We are delighted to work with Bill and Nate on this exciting project. In previous years, we have received countless proposals for such a Catan game accessory. We have always welcomed fan creations, such as game accessories and scenarios, for personal and noncommercial use—and we continue to do so. However, up to this point, we and our publishing partners declined to officially license any of the many project proposals relating to these types of Catan board accessories. We saw no practicable way to manage the release of these derivative products. This situation changed when Bill and Nate came on board with a novel new manufacturing program that insured delivery of a premium quality product at a price reasonable enough to market to our game community. They both understand the Catan brand and community very well. Most importantly, they have spent countless hours playing our games. This passion and experience enabled them to derive an especially awesome "Catan Board." It is by far the most high-quality board derivation we've seen from our wonderful fan community. Bill's and Nate's commitment to our team and brand, coupled with their ability to create competitively-priced Catan Boards using the Kickstarter platform, makes this project a viable and desirable licensing option. We look forward to the Catan Board and we are very confident that this accessory will enhance and enrich your Catan game experience!
The Problem We're Solving

Having conquered the wilds of the homeland, the Settlers have finally reached the coastline and have discovered a bustling seaport! Because of the fantastic support of our backers, we are now able to offer Seafarers Catan Boards for 3-4 Player and 5-6 Player Scenarios.
Every detail of this board is designed around the Seafarers expansion. For instance, different Seafarers scenarios have different lengths of boards. To accommodate every scenario, we made the board modular. Each middle piece is one hex wide. To setup a Seafarers board, just add as many middle pieces as you need to make the correct length.
For example, here is the Wonders of Catan Scenario laid out with an 8 hex-long board.
Because the board is custom color-matched to the color of the ocean tiles and ports, the board can be laid out without ocean tiles if you want. This allows the Seafarers ports to lay flush to the rest of the board. Of course if you do want to include the ocean tiles for continuity, you also have that option.
Additionally, the differing width of the roads and ships was taken into consideration. Between each hex is a space wide enough for a ship, with a narrower indentation to let the road sit snugly between the hexes with minimal slop. The ship is wide enough to sit over the top of this channel.
For a clearer view of what this looks like from above, here's another detail of the area surrounding a hex.
Here are the various pledge levels we have for the Seafarer Catan Boards.
For the Catan connoisseur, we present the Limited Edition Walnut Catan Board. Manufactured in California, these boards are made from solid walnut wood that is CNC machined then hand finished to a furniture-grade satin finish.
The board will be custom engraved with the name of your choice and the serial number of the limited edition run. The board shown is Catan Board #001, and was sent to Klaus Teuber, the designer of Settlers of Catan.
After the project is completed a survey will be sent out to all the backers of this pledge to provide the name they want engraved on the board.
Designed for the 3 to 4 player Settlers of Catan game, this board is perfect for an evening of gaming and refreshments with your friends.
We will try our best to get this limited run of walnut boards out before the holidays for those looking for the perfect gift for the Catan fan in their life.
Includes shipping in the US. Canada: add $35. International shipping: add $60.
The reward for this pledge is a solid piece of beech hardwood with a 5-6 player board machined on one side and a 3-4 player board machined on the other. It has port cutouts similar to the plastic board design for additional port flexibility. This is an unlimited run and does not include customized name engraving. Free shipping to US. Canadian Shipping: $45. International Shipping: $80.
For those who love the look and feel of brushed aluminum, we're offering a very limited run of CNC aluminum 3-4 player Catan Boards. If there were ever any question who was Lord or Lady of Catan, this would settle it when you lay this down to start playing.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Our stretch goals may differ slightly from other stretch goals backers are used to seeing on other projects. Our standard pledges are all priced afforbably so we do not plan to add additional items to these pledges as our stretch goals. Instead, we decided to set up our stretch goals as additional products we will introduce once we hit certain levels in funding. We would ask backers to view stretch goals more as milestones for additional available products rather than additional goodies included in your reward. Thanks!
First of all, a big thank you to everyone who expressed interest in the 5-6 player wooden board! We're very sorry that it's taken so long to make this pledge available, but we wanted to make sure we had our material and shipping costs dialed in so that we could offer this pledge as affordably as possible. But we're excited to announce that the 5-6 player wooden board is now up for pledging at $305. This will be a solid piece of beech hardwood with a 5-6 player board machined on one side and a 3-4 player board machined on the other. It will also have port cutouts similar to the plastic board design for additional port flexibility.
While designing, we went back and forth over whether to make this a single, solid piece of wood, or to make it modular. Some of the benefits of making it modular are easier transport and storage. However, we realized that the wooden board wouldn't likely be transported often. If a Catan Board was needed to travel with, most players would likely go with the plastic board.
Additionally, from an aesthetic standpoint, making the board modular introduced seaming in the wood grain at the joints, which we really didn't like. Wood grain is a very beautiful surface and to introduce joints really took away from the craftsman feel we were going for.
So we're very happy to make this pledge available. Unfortunately for now all we have is a rendering of the design, but our manufacturer just informed us that his order of walnut and beech will be arriving Monday, so we hope to have pictures of the finished 5-6 player wooden board early next week.
We really, really appreciate your support and understanding as we move quickly to keep up with your stretch goals! :-)
Lords and ladies of Catan, we've made it to 75K! Upon building our new settlement, we discovered rich stockpiles of ore, of the bauxite variety. Bauxite happens to be the raw material needed to make aluminum! Which means we'll be able to offer a very limited run of 25 aluminum boards for our pledgers who love the feel and aesthetic of brushed aluminum.
Well that was quick!
We've been working around the clock to perfect the design for the Seafarers Catan Board. We think you'll be pretty excited with what we've come up. The design is very versatile and will support all Seafarers scenarios. The design will be similar to the design of the Original Catan Board, but will include additional space between hexes so that both roads and ships will fit.
I'm meeting with our plastics manufacturer to go over costs. The pledges will be available later today, but final renderings will not be available until the end of the week.
Thanks again for everyone's support and sharing of our project!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Estimated delivery dates included in this page are indeed estimates and are subject to change. While we already have our manufacturers lined up and are ready to start this project, unknown factors may delay the process and cause delivery date to be later than expected.
The Catan Boards were designed for the Settler's of Catan game published by Mayfair games. It will work with the original game as well as several expansions such as Cities and Knights and Traders and Barbarians. Other editions of the Settler's of Catan game such as the Star Trek edition and the Kosmos edition have hex tiles which are approximately a millimeter smaller. Therefore, the Catan boards will still work but there will be some play within the hex cutouts. Older versions of the Mayfair game as well as special editions such as the 3D anniversary edition, are also approximately a millimeter smaller as well.
Shipping is included on all pledges within the US. For international shipping, check the descriptions for each pledge above. To add international shipping, include additional shipping rates in your Kickstarter pledge. You can edit your pledge until the Kickstarter funding date of November 19th. We are trying to secure the best deals possible for our international pledgers so there is a possibility these rates will be lowered in the future and those international pledgers who have already purchased the boards will be refunded for the difference. We really appreciate your understanding and patience with this.
To pledge for multiple rewards, simply add the totals together for all rewards you would like to participate in, increase your pledge to cover all rewards you wish to back. When the project ends, you will be sent a survey, simply list the reward levels and quantity you pledged for.
Unfortunately, the Seafarer's scenarios require several different hex layouts that are not compatible with the current Catan Board's layout. A Seafarer's edition is included as one of our future stretch goals, however, so stay posted for more information! Due to the differences in the board sizes, the Seafarers board will be separate board and will not be an additional expansion piece that will fit into the middle of the Catan Board like the 5-6 player expansion.
No problem. Mayfair sells the port tiles as an adapter kit here: http://www.mayfairgames.com/game.php…
You can simply increase your pledge amount to equal the total price of all the rewards you wish to pledge for while still pledging under the the Early Bird reward. We will be sending out a survey at the end of the Kickstarter project at which time pledgers will confirm the pledges they are eligible to receive.
Due to slight difference in Seafarers scenarios, several design changes make the Seafarers board unique:
The Seafarers board will be a solid blue plastic and will not have the tan island color of the basic game.
The Seafarer's board will have larger spaces between the hexes to accommodate ships as well as roads.
The 3-4 player Seafarers board will come with two end pieces and 12 middle modules to allow the board to perfectly fit all of the 3-4 player Seafarers scenarios.
The 5-6 player Seafarers board will come with two end pieces and 16 middle modules to fit all of the 3-4 as well as the largest 5-6 Seafarers scenarios.
The way the modules are designed, the 3-4 player Seafarers board will actually be able to fit the 5-6 player base game expansion but not the 3-4 player base game. While the 3-4 base game will fit within the hex layouts on the Seafarers board, several ocean tiles would have to fill in the extra hex spaces and the ports would have to sit on top of the tiles around the edges of the board. Ultimately, the choice comes down to the player's preference.
I have backed other Kickstarter projects where the stretch goals have given existing pledgers additional products. How come the stretch goals so far on this project simply introduces more pledge levels without giving anything to exisitng backers?
There have been reoccurring comments regarding the fact that our stretch goals simply introduce additional pledges without giving anything more to previous backers. A few things to kindly consider:
1. Our Kickstarter pledges are priced at a discount to what they will later retail for post Kickstarter. We realize that Kickstarter is not a retailer and backers are putting up their money knowing there will be a longer than usual wait time to receive their project. We want to adequately say thank you to our backers by giving them a discount.
2. We wanted to price the original pledges as affordably as possible so we did not build excess margins into the prices to allow us to include additional products. For example, if we decided to include the Seafarers board to all the existing backers, we would be incurring losses on all pledges and we would have to cancel the entire project. We could have priced all of our original pledges much higher to allow us to give more stretch goal products to our backers but we believe it is best to let them choose which additional products they would like and not.
3. Adding additional products to existing backers and reducing our margins actually decreases our ability to add additional products. This would be counterproductive since each additional stretch goal we added would mean less money for us to produce additional products. Unfortunately, the Catan board is not software where the incremental costs to add additional features is very minimal.
4. There are significant amounts of work that must be done with each pledge added. We must go through the process of designing the part, producing and testing prototypes, calculating the amount of capital that is required to manufacture the part, and figure out the logistics of shipping and handling. We are working hard to move as quickly as possible to bring each additional stretch goal to Kickstarter as affordably as possible.
5. We value the feedback of our backers. This is why our stretch goals thus far have not been set in stone. The Seafarers board was originally set at a much higher level but we decided to offer it sooner based on comments and demand. We value the community feel of Kickstarter and want our backers to be as involved as possible. We are able to move quickly (relative to bigger companies) to make design changes and have already made several small tweaks to our designs based on feedback from our backers. The alternative would be to have all of our stretch goals perfectly established and priced but not have the ability to make changes based on feedback. We believe that this ability to listen to the backers and create products based on their feedback is important. The disadvantage of this is that it takes time to update designs and reconsider the costs associated with such changes. We appreciate your patience as we work to bring you further updates on each pledge.
It is of utmost importance to us to stay true to the Catan quality of craftsmanship. We are manufacturing all the accessories here in the United States so we will have the most control over the process and ensure that the products are not only the best quality but that we meet our deadlines in fulfilling our pledges.
Once again, we are very thankful for our backers support of this project and will continue to listen to our backers feedback as we make further updates.
