About
"A great stand for your iPad to turn it into a cash register using Square."
---- Jack Dorsey, Square Co-founder and CEO

The Mogul iPad Register is beautiful, tilts effortlessly, and is very likely the most well-built iPad stand to ever enter the market. It was designed to be used in a professional environment as an elegant point of sale for the iPad but we think you'll find it useful for your own needs.
The Main Problem We're Trying to Solve
Have you ever tried to conduct a Square transaction on an iPad? Square is a beautiful, simple and powerful app, but when using an iPad as a point of sale it can feel a little awkward to pass it back and forth in a business setting. In a retail environment, unsecured iPads are a liability. iPads need a secure home that tilts easily back and forth between the cashier and customer. We went searching for an iPad stand that could be a point of sale and provide a solid, tilting platform for a Square transaction.
The iPad stands we found on the market were either quite disappointing in terms of build quality or didn't have the features we needed. We needed a robust, beautiful iPad stand that could tilt effortlessly at the touch of a finger.
Using our past experience in iPad accessory design, we set to work designing our dream iPad register, without compromise. The Mogul iPad stand is that dream.
Design: Inspired by Apple and Square
The Mogul was designed from the ground up to be used with Square. It brings the elegance and simplicity of the Square app into physical form, so that the entire Square experience can be a seamless and beautiful transaction. The upper slot of the enclosure has a custom space to firmly hold the Square while it's in use.

This prevents the Square from rotating and makes the credit card swipe very easy and repeatable.
Whereas other stands detract from the design ethos of Apple's iPad, the Mogul communicates that ethos even when the iPad is securely held within it.
In addition to Apple, The Mogul also takes design cues from Square, a company that is disrupting the credit card industry and consistently raising the bar in software design.
In addition to the overall design inspiration from Square, there is also one other subtle design element that faithful Square aficionados may appreciate.

The riser was designed to echo the proportions of the Golden Gate bridge, an icon that has both geographic and personal meaning to both Square and its leader, Jack Dorsey.
Manufactured in the USA
The Mogul iPad stand will be manufactured in the USA from CNC machined aluminum. The build quality is second to none, and we don't say that lightly. The stand will be manufactured by an FAA-certified machinist who builds aviation equipment.

The base is 3/4" solid aluminum, and has inset rubber feet to prevent it from sliding around and tipping over.
It would take a Hulk-like human to even attempt to deform or break anything on it, and even then he'd have a rough go of it.
Hinge Design: Custom and Ultra Smooth
The riser is nearly an inch thick and is topped by a custom designed hinge that uses an O-ring sealed light grease joint to provide the smoothest possible tilting experience.

It's difficult to convey in words how smooth the hinge is. It rotates effortlessly, without rubbing, and floats down to each angled resting place without jarring.
Portrait or Landscape
The iPad enclosure itself is built out of layered aluminum sheet stock, and can be used in portrait or landscape mode.

(Note: The Startup Pledge is for Ipad 2 only) This option will be verified via email with all pledges prior to shipment.
iPad Security
The Mogul is designed with security in mind, so the iPad enclosure uses 4 machine screws to grip the front plate onto the the body of the enclosure. When in use, there is no visible mounting hardware on the front of the stand.
Anodized Finish Options
The Mogul is finished using aeronautical-grade anodizing. Available in both jet black and silver, it will coordinate well with whatever designed interior or professional environment you'll be using it in.

What the Funds Will Help Achieve
We need $30,000 in order to do our first production run. Here's how it will be spent:
$7,500 to cover tooling and setup costs we've already paid for
$10,000 to pay for a materials and manufacturing deposit with our manufacturer. Our manufacturer builds FAA-certified aviation parts, so they produce very high quality work..
The remainder will be used to pay the balance of the manufacturing costs after completion of the first run, setup shipping fulfillment, and cover labor costs.
In the event we get overfunded (fingers crossed!), all money will go toward building more product and establishing the Mogul brand as the market leader in high-quality iPad stands. If we decide to go to market with this product it would retail for $329-389 through resellers.
We believe iPads deserve better. Join us in our project, and we'll make sure that happens.
