Mountain biking is much more than speed, distance and elevation. The thrill of hitting the trails is just as much about cornering, jumps, drops and the technical skills that take years to master.
That's why the TrailSense team has spent the last two years developing an advanced tracking device that can easily measure performance, analyse trail composition and gauge technical ability. Why? Because that's what matters to mountain biking enthusiasts everywhere.
TrailSense is an advanced tracking device created specifically for mountain biking. Here's what it was built to do:

Ease of use: To start using TrailSense, simply mount the sensor, open the app, jump on your bike and hit the trails. After your ride, all metrics and stats will be available in the app.
This campaign includes an iOS app only. TrailSense will be available for Android at a later date.

So how does it work? What metrics are you giving me?
TrailSense uses sensor technology to measure the bikes movements in 3D up to 100 times per second. This generates data such as type of terrain, jumps, cornering and your overall performance on the trail. The sensor tracks your speed (using a magnet on the rear wheel) and elevation/grades (using the built-in barometer) ensuring that you always get accurate speed and elevation data on your ride.
Using low energy Bluetooth, the sensor and app connects automatically when opening the app - no need for you to turn the sensor on/off. The sensor is mounted the same way as most speed/cadence sensors on the market today.
We use the GPS in your smartphone to track your location. We have made sure that the GPS recording stops if battery level is too low - this way you will always have battery if an emergency occurs. The sensor have a re-chargeable lithium battery and can track rides up to at least 20 hours.

Being on the verge of software and hardware is not the easiest thing in the world. That is why we have gathered a team of enthusiastic mountain bikers, technicians, developers and creative builders who are passionate about building TrailSense.
TrailSense was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and specifically the trails in North Sealand and the South of Skåne, Sweden.

We wanted the sensor's looks to match it's performance. After testing countless shapes, colors and mounting options, we chose a stealth black with blue highlights and 1/4 turn mounting.
A short demonstration
We have a working product already, but before we are ready to ship, we are going to make it even better. Here's what we're finalizing:

Risks and challenges
We have been working on TrailSense for over two years.
Our focus for the next few months will be finalizing the TrailSense case production and enhancing the algorithms to perform even better.
Case production: Both prototypes of the TrailSense case and mount have been 3D printed and tested with success. Further testing may result in minor changes to enhance aesthetics and durability.
Hardware: We've partnered with an established vendor with years of production experience to use an electronic board with all the required components for optimal performance and reliability. This partnership significantly lowers both cost and risk compared to developing our own hardware.
Software: The majority of the remaining work will be further enhancements to the algorithms. Based on thorough testing and our experience so far, we are confident in TrailSense' performance and excited by what will be implemented prior to the final shipping date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
