The problem and the for good solution
Bathroom plastic has one of the lowest rates of recycling in the US (less than 20%) resulting in over half a billion plastic bottles ending up in land fills and oceans every year. Today industry solutions revolve around recycled plastic, which is still just as likely to end up in the trash, and refill pouches, which are both non-recyclable and inconvenient for the consumer. Trades For Good was created by three friends and entrepreneurs with a simple question – “when we recycle less than one in five plastic bottles from our bathrooms, why use plastic at all?”
USDA Organic ingredients fragranced with 100% essential oils
An organic castile soap free from artificial fragrances and preservatives, with an ingredient list that reads like a farm not a factory. Made with anti- microbial coconut water, moisturizing sunflower oil, and antioxidant rich sea kelp extract – ingredients designed to be kind to both your skin and to our planet. Then fragranced with a range of three distinct blends of all natural essential oils inspired by some of the most beautiful and pristine places on earth.
We believe that sustainability shouldn’t compromise on desirability. The sleek, minimalist design of For Good will clean up any bathroom. The Trades For Good simple reuse system with our custom reusable cap puts an end to messy refills. When the soap is empty, simply clip off the can, throw it in recycling, and clip in a new one.
A blend of peppermint, patchouli, and rosemary essential oils giving a fresh, botanical fragrance with a warm spice. Inspired by the sub-tropical island chain known as the Ryukyu Kingdom. A land of abundance where over two thousand species of plants flourish and residents that live longer than anywhere else on earth. Perhaps best known for it’s fairy-tale forests where giant banyan and thousand-year-old cryptomera trees stand shrouded in an eternal mist as they reach of the sky; while the forest floor is blanketed by an endless sponge of ancient moss . This dense eternal vegetation punctuated with annual typhoons is what gives Ryukyu its distinct fresh, botanical aroma.
A blend of basil, cedarwood and lavender essential oils giving a warm, woody and organic fragrance. Inspired by the small British Columbian island outpost of Tofino, known for its rugged beauty and bohemian residents. A place where the pounding waves of the north pacific have carved a prehistoric coastline and whipped up persistent mists that have nourished evergreen forests for millennia. It’s inside the rocky headlands, and beyond the infinite sea spray, that a rich aroma exists in the trees, emanating from ancient salty drift wood slowly decomposes to nourish the dense vegetation of the forest floor.
A blend of clary sage, cardamom and sweet orange oils with a bright, floral and subtly sweet fragrance inspired by the coastal hillsides of Calabria. An unapologetically chaotic region of Southern Italy known as the land of the citrus fruit. A region sparsely populated by siesta loving people clustered in villages that cling to rocky outcrops. Sun baked slopes dotted with sinewy orange, lemon and bergamot trees roll to the Tyrrhenian coastline where they are met by dramatic cliffs tumbling down to some of the most spectacular beaches in the world.

A WEEKEND IN THE CATSKILLS
Two night, three day experience for up to 18 people in the Catskill Mountains (two hours from NYC) immersed in the wonders of nature while being surrounded by the comforts of home. You and your friends will be taking over the Livingston Manor Fly Fishing Club, a private lodge and nature retreat described as "near perfection" by Stay Wild Magazine. Over the course of the weekend you will not only experience the wild, but also get the chance to bottle it up with a personal essential oil fragrance blending session.
INDUSTRIAL MOLD DEVELOPMENT
Our proprietary clip on cap adapter is new to world, which is cool. But it also makes it expensive, new is rarely easy.
ESSENTIAL OIL MINIMUM ORDERS
There is a reason most soap brands don’t use essential oils, they’re expensive and (in normal packaging) they have a short shelf life. The rich, complex scents you get from these oils are incredible though so we’re taking less margin on our side to make it work, but still need your help making that first bulk order.
Our current can filling equipment is less than optimal and just using it is risking the future of Thurman’s hand modelling career. We need to upgrade.
RECYCLED CARBOARD TUBES
We’re committed to packaging that’s beautiful and sustainable – so our starter packs will be delivered in a sleek recycled cardboard tube. This campaign will help us reach the minimums for custom tubes.

Risks and challenges
We have spent the last 3 years researching, prototyping and testing our soap, hand pump and package and believe the risks are relatively low. Never the less, there are of course risks in every project especially when moving into new territory. We have tried to outline them below as best we can. If you have any other questions or concerns though we would welcome your questions direct.
We have prototypes for all components in place and purchase orders ready to be released. However, we have not yet assembled all those components together at scale - we have been training our hands and testing our dexterity - but this is an area where we could experience some complications.
MANUFACTURING (SOAP AND FRAGRANCE)
As our soap and fragrance is one of our biggest investments (it's good quality stuff) to date we have only prototyped at small scale. At the end of the Kickstarter will be the first time we scale up soap base production, essential oil production, blending, and thickening. We don't anticipate any major issues here, but wanted to flag that we're entering new territory.
As we don't yet know the scale of demand for our product we haven't set up a fulfilment partner - so for now that fulfilment will be the three of us (and Thurman's mum). We have investigated as best we can shipping rates, packs, and customs rates, but have not shipped at this scale before. We'll be doing our best to get your amazing soap to you as fast as possible though!
ACTS OF GOD
We're hoping God will also be a backer of the campaign, but in the case that he/she isn't then production could be delayed due to events outside human control, like flash floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, or other natural disasters.
We are excited about delivering our first products to our backers, and we will be completely engaged with our supporters during this process with full transparency. Any updates will be relayed in a timely manner, and we are open to any feedback or questions that arise along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
