Introducing the tPOD1 to the world…
…off-grid or denied-grid thermoelectric Power On Demand.
…eco-friendly, multi-functional, portable, dependable, and durable.
…born and made in Traverse City, Michigan USA.
"Count me in as a 'late sparrow'. As a teacher, I can see Third World applications for the tPOD1. This elegantly simple device could add hours of useful study time to the days of kids all over the world who live in countries which don't have a reliable source of power. That's without taking the ecological benefits of this device, no more smoking oil or kerosene lamps creating oppressive environments indoors. Great idea, great product...Matt Porrovecchio
"What an incredible product! I can't wait to get my hands on one of these babies. If you meet your goal and can start getting these things distributed, they'll be FLYING off store shelves in December... and not just because they'll make great Christmas presents!...Chris Williams
"I am from that part of world where there are still homes that get only few hours of electricity a day. Not sure how many similar products are there, but this is great for many people and I'd like it to be successful...Sibabrata
Thank you for reviewing our project.
Tellurex has the knowledge and technical skills to develop a new and affordable device that we believe will serve as a new must-have product for the outdoor recreation market. It will also provide important convenience, comfort, and safety benefits to consumers during electrical supply interruptions.
Born and made in Traverse City, Michigan USA, our revolutionary patent pending device converts heat into electricity. A single tea candle will power a bright 25 LED bulb lamp for up to four hours or provide an electrical charge to an auxiliary battery pack. We call this device the tPOD1™, which stands for thermoelectric Power On Demand. The Tellurex tPOD1 is powered by tea candles commonly available throughout the world which can be made from green, natural, and renewable resources. When placed beneath the Tellurex tPOD1, these inexpensive candles provide the right amount of heat needed for the thermoelectric modules in the tPOD1 to generate around one-quarter watt of power.
For a pledge of just $79 you can be among the very first to own a tPOD1!
Outdoor enthusiasts will love its packable weight and convenience when camping, backpacking, or hunting. The tPOD1 weighs less than 12 ounces and is about the size of a small soup can. This small power generator can be a valuable light source and battery pack charger when adventure takes you outdoors or during a natural disaster. The tPOD1 is also an excellent item for the home, auto, or RV, or during power outages. With its small size, portability and ease of use without the need for water, a campfire or a stove, the tPOD1 delivers outstanding multi-functional utility, convenience, and flexibility.
A standard tPOD1 kit will include a tPOD1 power generator, a light with a USB connection, a quantity of tea candles for your initial fuel, and a handy carrying case designed for the tPOD1. We are also developing accessories for the tPOD1; a small battery regulator and charging system to work with the tPOD1 maximizing the power that can be stored for charging USB powered devices, a carrying bag and a candle tray, among other ideas.
"Just became a Backer! Love the concept! I guess the rechargeable battery will be an extra accessory that we can buy later on?...Sal Cameli
These accessories make the tPOD1 even more convenient, flexible and mobile. Also, this project is the beginning of a family of alternative and renewable energy devices under development at Tellurex that can be used to provide “off-grid” and “denied-grid” power. Our long term objective is to reduce production costs, moving our product within economic reach of consumers in developing nations worldwide. Please help us make power on demand a reality for you and millions of others, whenever and wherever it is needed! We are working to make the tPOD1 available to organizations for emergency response and to relief organiations such as Rotary International, who will help distribute the devices in environments where power is unreliable and/or unavailable. Many pledge levels provide tPOD1 and tPOD5 units as gifts intended for those purposes.
"Very nice project. I hope that we reach the goal. I need international shipping, but that should be fine :) Keep the good work :)...Sommer

A thermoelectric module is the hidden part built into each tPOD1 and tPOD5 that produces the electricity when heat is applied to it from the candle. Each tPOD1 device will have 2 thermoelectric modules built into them. For more information about thermoelectric modules, please see our web site at http://www.tellurex.com.
Please add USD25.00 to your pledge if you are located outside of the United States.
Our reseach indicates that the average international shipping cost for the kit will likely be around $40 when shipping individual units to a residence. We have attempted to obtain a fair fee for this shipping cost and that is how we arrived at the $25 premium described in our notes.
Not at this time. One of the reasons we are seeking funding through Kickstarter.com is to develop a compatible battery recharger that will work with our tPOD1 generator. We expect to have the battery recharger available by October or possibly sooner.
Our tests have shown a continuous output of 0.25 to 0.35 watts over a 4 hour period using a pariffin candle in an environment of 70 degrees ambient temperature. The cooler the ambient air the better the tPOD1 will perform. We've also conducted trials using bees wax candles resulting in a noticeably higher peak output.
The tPOD1 is designed to charge a battery recharger and cannot directly charge a cell phone or a smartphone. We are underway in the development of a battery recharger and we hope to have it available by October or possibly sooner. The battery recharger can then be used to charge a cell phone or a smartphone.
Yes! We offer for sale right now on our web site the tPOD5. This device produces 5-watts of energy and is capable of directly and fully charging your smartphone, tablet, mp3, and other USB devices. For more details, go to http://www.tellurex.com/products/tPOD5.php.
