We hope to gain your support so that we can rapidly develop and launch the tPOD1. Tellurex is an emerging technology company that strives to develop innovative products using thermoelectric technology. About Richard Harmon:
Richard Harmon is a full time employee of Tellurex Corporation. He has been designing products incorporating thermoelectric devices for over 15 years; products ranging from industrial equipment, medical test equipment, restaurant appliances, and automotive components to insect eradication devices. With a background in electronic engineering, industrial electrical design, and as a research and development laboratory technician, Rich has worked on a wide variety of products in numerous science disciplines. Rich is named as inventor on two US patents and has been involved in the development of intellectual properties owned by Tellurex and other companies. As an employee of Tellurex Corporation, a world leader in thermoelectric technology, Rich has become very knowledgeable in the esoteric field of thermoelectric science. This particular project combines his knowledge of thermoelectrics and thermodynamics with his love for camping gear (especially flashlights).

Richard Hoyle, Principal Engineer of Aligned CAE LLC, is an experienced mechanical engineer who has partnered with the Tellurex team on this project. An Australian citizen living in Michigan, his extensive background in Computational Fluid Dynamics, FEA, CAD and product visualization make him an invaluable member of the project team. Rich has been intimately involved in the design and production launch of many products in the automotive and consumer electronics industries. He is named as inventor on numerous patents, including ones related to the application of thermoelectrics. Rich is responsible for the project’s appearance as well as the mechanical design. His background in automotive and consumer electronics engineering has been key in insuring an extremely robust, lightweight and compact design while maintaining a simple, aesthetically pleasing package.

A thermoelectric module is the hidden part built into each tPOD1 and tPOD5 that produces the electricity when heat is applied to it from the candle. Our reseach indicates that the average international shipping cost for the kit will likely be around $40 when shipping individual units to a residence. We have attempted to obtain a fair fee for this shipping cost and that is how we arrived at the $25 premium described in our notes.
Not at this time. One of the reasons we are seeking funding through Kickstarter.com is to develop a compatible battery recharger that will work with our tPOD1 generator. We expect to have the battery recharger available by October or possibly sooner.
Our tests have shown a continuous output of 0.25 to 0.35 watts over a 4 hour period using a pariffin candle in an environment of 70 degrees ambient temperature. The cooler the ambient air the better the tPOD1 will perform. We've also conducted trials using bees wax candles resulting in a noticeably higher peak output.
The tPOD1 is designed to charge a battery recharger and cannot directly charge a cell phone or a smartphone. We are underway in the development of a battery recharger and we hope to have it available by October or possibly sooner. The battery recharger can then be used to charge a cell phone or a smartphone.
