Help us bring our team over from Mexico to Cannes, and present our film about an immigrant who returns home to rebuild his family
“Aquí y Allá” is a story about a Mexican immigrant who returns home and fights to rebuild his family. He has to overcome the sense of displacement in his own home, and begin to fill the shoes he left. Having saved some earnings from two trips to the US, he hopes to now finally make a better life for his family without having to leave again. For us, hopefulness and family spirit are at the heart the film, as is the loss of what we leave behind.

The story is set entirely at home (“Aquí”). This different approach to an immigrant story initially drew us into the idea for the film. Their presence at home is always felt, even when they are “Allá” (over there). We have also done our best to show how the presence of the US is so strongly felt in these small Mexican towns, that “Allá” is practically knocking at the door.
Film Still #2
Ultimately, we believe the story is an important one for both Mexico and America. We have done our best to create a quality film that we hope can somehow help both countries understand each other a little better, in however small a way.

The star of our film, Pedro de los Santos, has continually been an inspiration for us all. Actually, Pedro has immigrated to the US twice over the course of his real life. He is also a musician in real life, as he is in our story. In fact, Pedro wrote most of the lyrics and musical compositions in the film, and his music plays an important role in our story. Perhaps most importantly, Pedro was the integral source of trust between our team and the community in Copanatoyac, Guerrero, where the story takes place.
Film Still #4
The fraternal bond that Pedro and Antonio, the director of our film, developed over five years of collaboration, was essential in enabling the intimacy, trust, and understanding we hope the audience finds evident in “Aquí y Allá.” We feel very fortunate that this approach to the film was possible, and are especially excited to share it with all of you.
In the hope of doing so very soon, ideally at a theater near you, we are asking for your help now.
Film Still #5
We are trying to bring some of our team from Mexico, and make sure they have a place to crash in Cannes. We are also trying to distribute our marketing materials to the press and the industry as best we can, which is a lot of work and not inexpensive. Strange as it may seem, even at Cannes, smaller films still have to fight to get noticed because all the big films cast big shadows. We’ll all be piling in together in some small apartments to make it work. It is very important for the film to have our team there to help us present the film to the world as it should properly be presented, and give it the greatest chance of succeeding. But most importantly, we want our hard-working and inspiring team to be able to experience this remarkable opportunity.
