The night started out as a cooperative mission to save some monkeys from the horrible tests and trials they are put through just so people in the world can smell a little better, but it all takes a turn for the worse when you arrive at the local perfume test facility. While silently navigating through the lab to get back to the cages, someone “accidentally” knocks over a beaker of cologne entitled Compete. Due to a current side effect, everyone on your team is now under the impression that it's a competition and whomever frees the most monkeys wins.
In Monkeys Need Love Too, you and your friends battle it out inside the local lab to see who can free the most monkeys. These poor monkeys have been subjected to multiple perfumes and colognes, so some of the side effects they've picked up can either help or hurt you during the game.
During your turn, you draw to populate your hand, storing much needed bananas off to the side so you can feed your monkeys later. Each turn you are able to lay down one monkey card and play one action card. The action cards are primarily used to slow down your opponents as they try to free monkeys for themselves.
After the dust has settled, you are tasked with feeding your monkeys. If you don't have enough bananas stocked up to complete the feeding, the monkeys you can't feed are discarded. You then end your turn by discarding any cards you don't wish to hang on to, usually to help you next turn during your draw if you are running low on bananas.
At some point during the game, someone will acquire a specific action card that triggers the alarm in the lab. Of course, they will only use this card if they believe they have enough monkeys to win the game. If the player succeeds in tripping the alarm, the second and final phase of the game kicks in. But hope is not lost for everyone else. All players now draw one card from a secondary deck to determine their end fate.
You may escape. You may even find a couple extra monkeys on the way out. You could possibly end up losing some of your monkeys as you exit, or even worse, get caught by security and end up in jail. Finally, you could draw the card that resets the alarm so you can continue freeing monkeys. In the end, the player who escapes with the most monkeys is the winner of the game.

Monkeys Need Love Too harkens to the gamer who loves theme, flavor text, and humor; is a party game through and through. Its high randomness, heavy flavor text, and goofy theme will attract gamers who love light party games. . We had some major “lol” moments.

I really like the artwork and find that there is a lot of great humor and silliness in the design. The game is really easy to play. It’s definitely got a lot of humor with a take that feel to play. The light hearted humor and design of the cards will make you laugh. Fans of games like Munchkin and Fluxx will most likely enjoy this game.

Monkeys Need Love Too is one of those games that lives in your gaming backpack to be taken out when you want a quick, lighthearted game to kill some time at the LGS. It falls into that classic “screw your neighbor” type of game where you can really kick someone when they’re down and so someone in the lead one turn may be racing to catch up the next (and occasionally you can get “banana screwed,” which is like being “mana screwed” in Magic, but… you know… with bananas, where you just can’t seem to find one to save your life… or the life of your monkeys, really). The game mechanics are really simple, so teaching it to anyone shouldn’t be a problem. The learning curve is small, so going from “I’ve never played this before” to “7th level Zen Master of Monkeys Need Love Too” is a pretty short trip (like, 2-3 turns at most). The art is cute and colorful, and there is a lot of unique artwork in the game.

Monkeys Need Love Too is an awesome and amazing game for 2-4 players ages 8 and up. Plays in about 15- 60 minutes. Unless its with me and Anna. We'll make it last at least an hour and a half. We had a great run with this title. We really didn't know what to expect. Considering we had not heard of it until the creator had contacted us. But we had a blast and were really happy that we’ve had the chance to play the game and experience saving monkeys. If you've backed this game on kickstarter you won't be dissapointed. Also this is a great game for children. I mean what child doesn't like monkeys. This is a really easy game to play and teach. Reason I know that is because I didn't pass the rules off to Anna. I will be sharing this game with friends and family of mine.

The mechanics look crisp. The rules aren’t complicated. Really simple. The art doesn’t take itself too seriously. And that’s a good thing. Because it shouldn’t take itself too seriously. There are cards where you THROW POO AT OTHER PLAYERS!
IT. HAS. MONKEYS!!! All games need more monkeys. I yearn for the day when Ticket To Ride or Cosmic Encounter or Settlers of Catan comes out with an expansion with monkeys. Monkeys make everything awesome.

We plan on enlisting Wingo Games to manufacture Monkeys Need Love Too. They’ve been in the business for over 20 years and come highly recommended. Their portfolio is endless and they’ve shown us great respect along with impressive dedication to both the details of the project and responding to our every need.
I have always loved humorous board/card games and have been playing them with my friends for years. Being a tinkerer at heart, I eventually decided to develop a game of my own. I love making people laugh and I wanted to create a game that would be fun to play and full of laughs. I founded Topwise Games and started working on bringing my ideas to life.
Monkeys Need Love Too has come a long way from a homemade game printed on index cards to a fully realized game ready for your next game night. I spent countless nights ironing out the mechanics and play testing the game with friends and locals. When adding in the illustrations, my hope was to have them bring out the humor of the cards as well as add to the overall theme of the game. I hired Rick Menard who did an awesome job of really bringing the cards to life. I wanted the illustrations to immediately bring a smile to the player’s face, and I think he nailed it.
So now the game is ready to go and all I need is your help so I can get the first edition ordered. Those monkey aren’t going to free themselves!
P.S. I hope that Monkeys Need Love Too is just the beginning for Topwise Games. I am working on several expansion ideas and we’re also already in the middle of play testing our first board game. I can’t reveal much information about it though…other than it involves donuts.
When Monkeys Need Love Too was first imagined 7 years ago, it was created as a hobby printed up on index cards destined never to leave our gaming table. With the emergence of Kickstarter, we now have the opportunity to turn those index cards into a high quality card game with actual illustrated playing cards that can be shuffled (who here has tried to shuffle index cards? It’s impossible). On top of that, Kickstarter gives us the means to make Monkeys Need Love Too the best game it can possibly be.
A special thanks goes out to the folks at Indie Game Alliance. Even though we couldn’t make it to any conventions before launching this Kickstarter, they were there (sometimes without their bumper) to spread the word and give Monkeys Need Love Too some additional traction out in the world. On top of that, they’ve been nothing but open and helpful when we’ve needed to pick their brain for knowledge and opinions. Words can’t express how much we value being a member of IGA.
Risks and challenges
Through updates, comments, and direct emails our backers will be kept aware of all changes that are occurring throughout the entire process of running the Kickstarter all the way thru getting the game into your hands.
We have set an expected delivery date of February 2015. This may seem a little soon for this project, but it's made based on all the preparation and research we've done ahead of time to calculate the different timetables for each step of the process and foresee (and eliminate) any obstacles that could possibly slow it down.
