About

Lab Partners is a fast-paced card game where players compete to create new chemical compounds and mixtures.

Combining a hint of deck-building with a splash of risk-taking, Lab Partners adds an element of tension as each roll of the dice could result in a brand new invention or the destruction of your entire experiment.

We are so excited to bring this game to you wherever you are--world-wide shipping is included!

"'Lab Partners' is good, clean fun (until someone causes an explosion, of course)."

- Vincent Paone from Dad's Gaming Addiction

"It's easy enough to be played by families but the tactics of choosing which powers to go for could interest some serious players."

- Bayard Catron from Game Theory

Shipping

Before we go any further, I need to let you know that shipping is free world-wide! So let's look at what you'll be getting when you back us:

Wow! Look at all that stuff!
Wow! Look at all that stuff!

If you'd like to take a look at our rule book, click here.

Special thanks to Dad's Gaming Addiction for the wonderful gameplay video below!

Each round, players take turn drawing new Chemical cards and attempt to create new Chemical Compounds by rolling dice to combine a Stabilizer, one (or more!) Reagents, and a Catalyst. Roll poorly? Your turn is over, and you'll have to try again next time.

Once you have created at least two Chemical Compounds, you'll roll again to combine them to create a Solution. Solutions are necessary to fulfill Product Contracts - which earn you big money and new laboratory abilities.  The first player to earn $1 million in funding wins!

Gameplay Overview
Gameplay Overview

1. High Quality Cards + KS Exclusive Contract Card -  $15,000

The first upgrade we have lined up is a higher quality card. If you back us at a "full copy" level or higher, your game will automatically be upgraded with these higher quality cards.

In addition, we will be adding a new contract with the title "Crowdfund a Science Project" for our wonderful backers!

2. "Unstable Chemicals" Expansion - $20,000

Add a variety of new chemical cards to your deck. Players will be able take bigger risks by adding powerful, potentially unstable chemicals to their concoctions.

3. "HR" Expansion - $30,000

Add a "role playing" element to your game with the Human Resource card pack. This expansion will add roles, actions, and more contracts to the game.

COMMENTS? QUESTIONS?

We have a few more ideas for stretch goals and other goodies, but we want to know what you all think. What would you like to see in an expansion? Have ideas on how we can improve something? We love hearing from our backers. Please message us with ideas or encouragement, and we will be sure to do the same!

THIS IS ALL GREAT BUT I LOVE READING BIOS ABOUT STRANGERS ASKING ME FOR MONEY TO MAKE GAMES - WHERE ARE THE BIOS!?

Oh, you silly gooses. I wouldn't leave you hanging!

My name is Tierney (pronounced tear-knee...yes, it's weird), and I've known Jeff and Matt literally since I was born.  Once kids, spouses, and life (and in my case, cats) came into the picture, we stopped having so much free time for fun. We began playing board games several times a month as a way to stay connected, and over time, we started talking about the games we wished existed.

Jeff is our resident rules lawyer - whenever we had a complicated rules book, we'd pass it down to Jeff who could absorb and teach it to us before we had time to finish reading the introduction. He is the Head of Operations - creating the rules and strategy for our games.

Matt is our resident games expert. With a background in video game design with both Bethesda and EA, Matt brings his industry experience to both refining the gameplay and approaching ideas from the view of the players.

Tierney (or Tier...hence the company name which honestly, she didn't pick but it's a fun name) was an English major who fell into the world of IT. She works with teams working on mobile applications and websites, but she also has cats who are awesome and is basically a walking stereotype of a cat lady who reads too many books.

Between the three of us, we all bring different strengths to the table[top].  Jeff loves overly complicated games with one million page rule books and deep strategy. Matt loves fast-paced games that are enjoyable for both adults and his daughters. And Tierney (or me - Idk, this third-person thing is hard to keep up) loves a good story-based game.

After we...uh...missed the funding goal from our first campaign, we took your feedback and suggestions to heart.  We connected with David Furnal, a children's book artist and "People's Choice" award winner for the Beaverton OR Arts Mix.  He completed all the game art for us, and it's gorgeous and we love it and we hope you love it too!

We have several more games in the works right now - and we are hoping a successful KS is the launchpad we need to start creating games full-time.

Hopefully that's enough bio info for you all! Please feel free to drop us a comment or message - we love chatting. You can also find me on Instagram @tierdear - I'm happy to answer DMs or check out your board game posts (or cats).

Honestly truly - thank you all so much for even reading down this far. We'd so appreciate your support.  xooxoxxoxoxooxxo Tier (and the other guys who did NOT condone the use of xoxoxox's)

Risks and challenges

This is our first game, but we've had the pleasure of getting to know several popular Kickstarter creators to learn what methods worked (and didn't work for them). The risk with being a new game developer is the unknowns. While we've researched everything for years now, nothing beats first-hand experience.

As a result, we've set up relationships with partners that have come highly recommended to us for both manufacturing and fulfillment. Lab Partners is a completed game that's been play-tested by friends, family, and strangers. We have lined up a domestic and international manufacturer as well as multiple fulfillment partners depending on our funding level. We can't wait to bring this game to you!

We launched for the first time last year, but we set a funding goal that was way too high. Over the past few months, we've hired a new artist, completely finished the game, paid for a few reviews, and revised our costs. With a lower funding goal (supplemented by more of our own initial investments), we hope that we can make Lab Partners a reality!
