THE MURDER CLUB: USELESS DEATHS - PART 2
THE STORY CONCLUDES!
"Lisa, a student preparing for her A-levels, is recruited by fellow student Tom, who wants to see if they can use their combined intelligence to frame someone for murder. But is she working with him, or being manipulated into a situation that even she can't figure her way out of?"
The Murder Club: Useless Deaths - Part 2 is a 68-page black & white British comic book created by me, Tony Cooper. It contains the final three chapters of the story "Useless Deaths", the first three chapters of which can be found in Part 1, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2017, and which is available as an additional reward if you don't already have it.
This Kickstarter is for £745 to allow me to print 160 physical copies of Part 2 for sale at conventions and for rewards.
As it stands, "Useless Deaths" is a self-contained story, but if it is successful, I have plans for further volumes to continue the tale of Lisa and Tom.
This entire graphic novel is my work - from roughs to layouts to inking to tones to the cover. I am currently over 50% of the way through the art for Part 2 and looking to get it printed in May/June.
And to help give you an idea of what it's about, you can download for FREE a PDF of the ENTIRE FIRST CHAPTER at this Google Drive link.
Ever wondered if you're a psychopath? Maybe you are. Ever wondered if you could get away with murder?
The thought had never occurred to Lisa, a bright 17-year old school student preparing for her A-levels, until fellow student Tom recognises something of himself in her.
He realises that she has a psychopathic personality disorder, much like himself, and decides to recruit her into a very exclusive club. He wants to use his intellect to frame people for murder, but needs an equally intelligent partner to help plan the killings.
Initially appalled by his suggestion, Lisa gradually forges closer ties with Tom, the idea intriguing her. Bored rigid by schoolwork that no longer challenges her, and feeling powerless under her controlling father, will she end up following Tom's path? And if she does, is she an equal partner in this endeavour, or is she being manipulated for Tom's own ends?

--++ SPOILERS FOR PART 1 FOLLOW ++--
For those who have read Part 1 - the story continues as, despite her reservations, Lisa makes her way to Edward's house in order to follow Tom's plan of stabbing him, then setting up the scene to make it look like it was Blake that commited the murder.
Along with the keys to his house and a pre-prepared "bag of crime", Lisa's curiosity to see what happens overcomes her uncertainty, but the scene she finds when she arrives isn't at all what she was expecting, and things quickly go from bad to worse...

PLEASE NOTE: Art below is about 95% finished.
Since I am doing all the art and writing myself, there is nobody to pay! This means my only outlay will be the printing costs for 160 copies.
So the Kickstarter goal is £745. The bulk of that is for printing, followed by postage for physical rewards, with 10% added to cover Kickstarter and payment processing fees.
You will notice that there are no added incentives like T-shirts, baseball caps or keyrings etc., for any of the reward tiers. This is because I am a one-man operation and this keeps things much simpler my end.
However, if the project is successful, anything else over the project goal will go towards printing more comics - which I will probably have to do at that point anyway to cover backer rewards.
Here is the full information on the reward tiers and what you get for each pledge:
My name is Tony Cooper and I worked in the videogames industry for 16 years, before striking out on my own as an author and freelance writer.
After I finished my first two superhero novels ("Powerless" and "Killing Gods") I had an idea for a short story to bridge the gap to the third book, which would expand on one of the main characters. This idea eventually became the comic "Powerless: Some Kind of Hero" and was successfully Kickstarted and completed last year.
Now I have been bitten by the comic bug! I have written and I am currently drawing the 114-page graphic novel (split into two parts) the second and final part of which is featured in this very Kickstarter.
If I'm not writing or creating art I will be watching Blindspot, The Blacklist or Agents of Shield on TV, or reading the latest indie graphic novel.
Thanks for reading to the end :)
Risks and challenges
This is my third Kickstarter comic project, the previous one for Part 1 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tonycooper/the-murder-club-useless-deaths-a-dark-graphic-nove) was fully funded and all rewards successfully completed and posted.
This Kickstarter is essentially identical to Part 1 in terms of quantity of work to be done and organisation, and while I am still doing it all by myself, I can't foresee anything blocking progress.
I don't anticipate any obvious problems as I have done this before, but I am a regular updater, so should anything crop up, you will be the first to know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
